Shipped from Canada, these are some of the coolest, most affordable strat type guitars I have seen. Simple, well-made, and with great color choices... this might be the new king of cool, affordable guitars.

I live in Montreal and Kana Music (Groove) is about a 30 minute drive from me. I just called them to talk about their lefty guitars and I told them about your channel. After I mentioned your channel to Jeff at the company he looked you up immediately and was pretty stoked. :) I'm probably going to pull the trigger on 1 or 2 of these pretty soon. Good review, Max!
Guess they are selling a lot from the video, or expecting to. The telecasters went from $138.50 when I first looked at it to $148.50 within 10-15minutes. Haha.

@@DisruptedSinner Ha ya, I don't blame them. Been trying to talk myself out of a telecaster as of late. Deciding between just biting on this one ($148.50 + tax), a Harley Benton (but they are heavy, $229 + tax), or just pay for a Squier CV ($300 "open box" from ProAudioStar) or a used MiM Fender.

That’s an impressive price point for a Canadian made guitar that includes shipping. It’s even beating out many of the popular Asian brands’ prices. I hope Max will check out a few more of these to review!

Hey friends, many of you have commented that this company is based in Canada, but they do not sell WITHIN Canada. First off, welcome to all my friends from the North! Secondly, my understanding is that this company acts as a distributor in Canadian territories, and because of this they do not sell directly to customers (so as to not compete with the retailers that they distribute to), so they only sell these guitars outside of Canada.

25 year player. I got one of these about a year ago and I'm impressed with it. I may do some upgrades at some point but after recording with it, you're not telling the difference between this and a $1000 axe when listening.

For a budget guitar I suggest the 3 single coil blend knob mod. You can look it up online, basically turns you bottom tone knob into a blend knob. You can get a lot more sounds, and can really breathe some more life into your single coils other than the same old Fender standard wiring that comes stock. Also allows you to turn all 3 pickups on simultaneously, Spread the word!

I thought the pickups were a bit bright and thin on the clean tones, but sounded good on the overdriven tones. Well made affordable guitars are becoming the expected standard.
That bridge single coil is one of the best sounding single coils I have heard with an overdriven tone! It sounds like a humbucker, doesn't have much of that single coil sound to it. Impressed!
I love your reviews. It's becoming more and more apparent that you don't have to spend a fortune to get a decent, cool looking instrument. Keep up the good work Max!
You're right but I think it's quite biased when reviewers are additionally using costly amplifiers and equipment. The amplifier will make most of the tone arguable if the guitar is budget friendly. If you're going to review a price friendly guitar at least review it with a price friendly amplifier - the majority of people who want to buy these types of guitar won't have the money to buy an expensive amplifier. Use a Fender Champion 20 or something similar. I love Max and stuff but I've been playing guitar over 20 years and have the experienced to be comfortable buying more expensive gear so these videos are useful to me. But a beginner will cry when they find out their tone sounds nothing remotely the same. Herman Li, a while back, demoed a budget guitar with a budget amplifier and that was all the equipment he used. Now that's what I want to hear if I were new to guitar.
@@EricCPOP Yeah but it also shows that there are more important places to spend your money. TBH it doesn't matter if I have a guitar that costs 200 or 10000, its still gonna sound pretty terrible because I'm terrible. I think just try and get the best you can afford at the time and if you are on an extreme budget its nice to know good guitars exist at this price range.

It only proves a pro can use it also the opposite of what you want is also true…….a $5K guitar will also sound like trash in a cheap amp. What do you prove using a cheap amp, everything sucks on a cheap amp.
@@bluwng Bro. I understand you completely coming from an experienced player but you're missing the point. A beginner won't have the money to buy an expensive amplifier and I don't necessarily feel that an expensive guitar will sound like trash on a cheap amp.

You say I feel, I think a lot, this isn’t fact this is opinion and emotion. Think this way, who is focus market, what is the best way to demonstrate the instrument, what are the pros and cons, what will the result be.

It's good to see someone take the time to give these unknowns a shot to prove to the beginners that there's a guitar for every price range... And worth the effort.
I've played BC RICH, KRAMER, PEAVY, IBANEZ, EPIPHONE.... But the stunner was a $139 Jay Turser brand guitar.
It was a jam pack... It was a BEAST!
Of course... Ran through a... Digitech metal master, Digitech Digital Delay and a Ibanez Weeping Demon wah pedal...Out to a 75 watt Crate amp. All reasonable...
We sell these in our music shop here in Canada. Everything you say is true, entirely gigable and if it gets stolen oh well. You can buy ten of these for the price of an American Strat, they play very well and anyways no one in the audience knows the difference.
Totally agree I just posted a comment a few minutes ago reporting back positively after getting one in purple shortly after he originally posted this video a few months back, going in with the exact same attitude that if it sucks oh well because it was such short money but that said it's turned out to be a total blast like I'm pretty shocked by how well it plays and sounds like a Strat I've got no issues with this thing at all 🤙🏼
How big are these frets. I don't like small frets if these are pretty wide and tall I am sold.
I got mine from UPS today. The purple/black one. Looks very cool. I have yet to plug it in, but it tuned up great. The only issue I had was the tremolo bar hung down too low so I put in a small Fender spring in the little hole for the whammy bar. Now the bar stays where I want it to. The pick guard had not one but two layers of plastic to get off which is impressive in the protection provided. Very well packed. A great $134 dollar guitar so far......
I plugged it in to my Sonicake Matribox(also bought thanks to a Guitar Max video) and it plays great. Good tuners, pickups, frets have no sharp edges, great action/intonation. For 134 bucks this is the best strat style deal your gonna find. Of course it's made in China. The co. in Canada is just an importer/dealer.
I ordered the Groove P -Bass in Margarita Green metallic, based off this review. Right out of the box, it played great.

I ordered the yellow and black bumblebee and got it within 2 weeks. It’s actually a really nice guitar. I may put a mini humbucker in it, but it actually doesn’t sound bad at all. Thanks Max!
How big are the frets? Usually all medium but are they a big medium like medium jumbo or a small medium?
I guess I would say closer to a smaller medium, the guitar itself seems to be really well built.
I have one too and I like it a lot. Paired with a Spark 40.
Ordered purple one for my daughter. Told kana I learned about their products from this channel.

After watching your review I ordered the yellow and black strat. I placed the order late monday evening and it just showed up on Friday. Super fast delivery! Canada to Seattle in about 4 days. I'm letting it acclimate a little before really diving in but so far she looks really good, low action, no fret buzz and only slightly out of tune right out of the box. Very please with my purchase so far. Thanks for turning me on to this company!
Let's be honest, when you have the musicianship skills that Max has, you can make almost any guitar sound amazing.
Mich is right. However someone at this level of talent would probably know a pretty good playable guitar from a guitar that is cheaply made,making a cool looking guitar virtually unplayable. Thanks

I’ve carried these at my shop in Nova Scotia. They are incredible for the money. The Strats and the Les pauls shine for the money.
I am circling back to report to you that after watching this review when it first came out a few months back I actually went ahead and ordered one of these on Ebay from Kana (in purple) and it's GREAT!! For me it has the feel of a Strat plenty enough and totally sounds like one so I'm good in fact I gotta smile every time I play it cuz I can't believe I scored this thing for like $140. I am not above running with a quality knockoff believe me so MAJOR props to Kana and thank you for bringing us these kinds of reviews bro your time is greatly appreciated 🤙🏼
I'm glad to hear you got a good one! I'm in Ontario and looking at the ebay listings, its 199cad for the guitar and a basic gig bag and free 3 day shipping with no hassle returns. I am eyeing the yellow.or the silver one. How ware the frets on yours? Any sprout or were they in need of dressing? Also, the listing says you can choose the pick guard...did you get to choose?

I saw all those options that were available but I just got this thing straight up in the box as it is and it played great right out of the box I haven't even put new strings on it or anything. I'm pretty simple when it comes to guitars like it's all feel for me I know there are dudes out there who are more connoisseur-like where they can get into all these alterations and stuff but to me if it sounds good and feels good and holds up pretty decent over time it's all good with me hopefully this one will hold up just fine but like I was replying to the original poster here if it does end up falling apart or whatever oh well it just really wasn't a lot of money. That said this guitar is a legit part of the lineup around here I give it equal time playing it as much as any of the others 👍🏼
I got a second hand tele type guitar for about $50 bucks if converted to dollars. That guitar not only sounds great, but also looks great. I got a tree of life decal so it looks appropriate for a power metal band.
Today is a great time to play the guitar.
We have free amp sims like NAM. Cheap pedals like the Matribox or Cube Baby and cheap amps or speakers to plug them into.
I have heard from others that, these are made by the same place that makes Glarry guitars and, I have never had any luck with Glarry guitars. I don’t know who makes Groove guitars but, this video sure has me very interested in them for sure.
Looks like the old Lime Gold color Ford used in the 60's and 70's... I had a 1970 Mach 1 in Lime Gold, wish I would have hung on to that one!
Look at the figuring on the back of the neck though. It reminds me of my Epiphone. I stripped the finish off the neck of my Les Paul Special II and it revealed this weird figuring, like the guitar in this video, that you wouldn't normally see on a guitar, which is probably why it was used for a guitar that was going to be painted over. I hit the neck with some walnut stain and it looks sick. I think wood like that is cool, but it's probably not uniform enough for the general public to enjoy.

I bought an orange one about a year ago, and they changed the pickguard for me to White. I pay about the same price and I'm very happy with it!
Most great budget guitar brands don't ship to Canada unless you pay a ridiculous shipping fee which cancels out the savings so It's nice to find a decent option in Canada.
these are actually shockingly awesome, if you want a fat neck get one of these strats from groove, i love the big neck and it sounds really good fun to play. 200 bucks in canada! can't beat that.
For the price they'd make the ultimate modding platform. I need to check those out. Love a super strat on the cheap.

Max. Just bought one on Christmas Eve for 50.00. Even had a fret job done on it and plastic still on pickguard. This thing is an amazing player with a small setup and fret sprout cleanup. Its banana yellow with black hardware.

I think you might have to do something the audio interface or cab setup you are using with IR. The clean/low gain sound sounds a bit fizzy/grating and out of phase. Higher gain kind of masks everything, but I not sure you're doing the instrument justice especially on those lower settings. I had the same kid of experience on your Firefly Tele video, so I don't think it's the guitars. Just heads-up anyway.
Wow, they increased the price on the Telecaster style I was looking at by $10 while I was looking it and some other stuff. Guess the influx on sales from this video made them raise prices a bit. Went from $138.50 to $148.50 within 10-15min

I've had my Groove P bass for almost a year now. 185 w/gig bag. For the money, it is well worth it.

Pick ups have a little bit of unwanted noise but nothing to terrible love the color seems like a very good deal I'm interested.
just your normal 60 cycle hum with single coils, mine are great.
@@oldandeerie I know I'm a Seymour Duncan active pick ups kind of guy. I don't care for the single coil I do humbucker pick ups only usually because single coil pick ups don't really have the tone for heavy metal music it's more of a blues) hard rock tone or something lighter that single coils are made for.i don't even like fender stratocaster guitar's unless it's a fender stratocaster with at least one humbucker pick up and a Floyd Rose.

You gotta remember all these budget brands are basically the same. They are all made in just a few factories. Just a different headstock shape, maybe some different colors, and differing levels of setup. If you can do some or all the work yourself, get the cheapest you can find.
I'd love to try one of these out. I got a Mitchell MD200 at about the same price but discovered some fret buzz and thin screw mounted strap buttons that stripped out when I tried to remove a strap. I'd love to see a sub $150 solid body round-up.

Nitpicking, but that doesn't look like mint green at all. It's more an olive green. Can't beat the price if it sounds good.
Yeah baby. I was looking at a Charvel the other day. Same color as the one you have. Deal killer was the hideous plane maple neck. No paint on back of the neck. This guitar you have is way better looking than a 8 hundred Charvel 😂
So the purple with the maple neck is my favorite so far. I do dig the yellow with black pick guard though. With gig bag it's like 155 bucks. Not bad. They also make a alder body guitar with hss set up for 179.00. Although the headstock seems small on those models. But I'm thinking of buying one for my son as a starter and adding like you suggested a double rail humbucker in black.

I picked up an orange Groove😊 Strat for about $100. Man it was pretty terrible out of the box. I spent some time on it. I had to shim the neck away from the heel. I took a lot of relief off the neck and was then able to lower the extremely high strings.
Now It actually plays really really well. However, I wouldn't recommend it to a new player or anyone who can't do their own setup and adjustments. It could possibly cost them $150 to $200 for the adjustments needed. In the 250 to 300 dollar you can do a lot better. For me though it was worth it.
Max, put a hotrail in the bridge and do a mod that gives you more pickup selections. My favorite sound is the bridge and the neck together on a Strat.
Set of new strings would make a big difference ... GUITAR For $134.50 Good deal. 👍

1st...I don't play but,I wanna learn.Ive watched 100's of budget videos and conclude a couple of things. Buy what you can afford and what looks cool. Everything can be upgraded later. And,the amp is what really matters super cool looking guitars and now I know mini humbuckers exist😊

I can clearly recognize the shaft's color and the headstock's shape. It is a product of a Chinese OEM manufacturer. Of course, that doesn't make it a bad instrument!

Hard to find a green guitar I like, but I love that shade of green w/Maple neck & black pick guard looks 👍.
Would love to hear this with different pickups. I like a flat radius, and this looks like a good mod platform, maybe a guitar I wouldn't be afraid to mess up. :)

Got the exact guitar. The only thing was the frets were really gritty feeling. Got that fixed and it plays great!
