- This new guitar brand has been gaining popularity on Amazon. It's affordable, it's got coil splitting, stainless steel frets, smooth tuners, and a beautiful blue burst finish... and the name: Boya and Ziqi. It just rolls off the tongue. Honestly, I don't even know if I'm saying it correctly. What does this name actually mean? And is this a good guitar? Let's find out.

Max speaks so clearly and is very articulated during his reviews. Some reviewers struggle with finding words and fill in space with "um" and "ah" repeatedly. Good work Max.
That's called, "dithering." Major challenge for many speakers...
@@docwill184 you're right.
.ya ..and and he so muscular and and he looks just like glen Danzig💪 🤗🤔😄
@@benwright6330 you're a keen observer of physical details.
That’s a good point, I somehow never noticed that. We use radios at work and we have a guy that goes ahhhh in between at times, we all have a laugh at it from time to time.
So many silly comments, me as a 66 year old man battling a rare form of Parkinson’s disease but hoping to learn to play the guitar, I thoroughly enjoyed the guitar and your playing, thank you sir !!!
You definitely can't go wrong with Max, he's a very cool guitar guy & good luck with your medical issues my friend

I'm 70, been playing over 55years. Guitar is the best therapy. I'm sole carer for my wife. Been married 45years. Without the Good Lord and guitar I'd have no strength to carry on.
Prayer and blessings coming your way brother..
Thanks for sharing that.
Ta for the video Max, much appreciated.
Just do it. You won't regret it. Peace.🎼🎸😄
So great to see more companies coming out with quality stuff that you don’t have to pay in an arm and a leg for if you get a chance I’m a Jackson guy through and through but I purchased a subzero generation pro glacier burst with a Floyd rose special for $280. Stainless steel frets five piece walnut And mahogany neck swamp ash body coil split I was floored by the quality of this instrument. Thanks again.
It looks like the updated price is $336 dollars when they arrive back in stock to sell.
It looks like this subzero guitar could compete with Max's custom green Harley Benton signature model. It has a lower price point which I find attractive.
@@strangeuniverse1199 yeah, we were talking about Max. He makes everything look good
@@strangeuniverse1199 yeah I’ll tell you what I was a little hesitant and I was expecting not much, very pleased Am I been playing guitar for decades and this is the quality of a about $1000 guitar in that range. Nice to meet you on here. Good stuff.🙏🏻🙏🏻🤘🏼🤘🏼🎸🎸🎸
The quality of the guitar electrics is light years ahead of what it used to be. It seems that now, the only difference in a cheap guitar and expensive one is the quality of workmanship on the body and fret board. They are really close in sound quality. Buy cheap, so you'll have extra money to take your girl out! Unless you're in a professional band, it's all you really😊 need.
Hey man, thanks so much for all the research you do in putting your videos together, gear and news alike. Cheers, from FL!
Max makes every guitar Sound Like the best guitar ever.
A skilled accomplished player like Max can make any guitar sound amazing, but for an in-expensive guitar it looks great and should play well!
YES he does
He is a good player and he usually uses a good modeling amp and that helps.. that Fender and Katana are amazing little amps....he said that he is using the new Boss IR amp and speaker simulator..*Update*, been thinking ,Speakers and Amps are about, 99% of ya sound, especially in a high gain type Metal sound IMO... Unless you are using a Tele single coils and then grab a Paul with PAF's in a clean type of soft sound or a Twangy type sound... In , case it goes from a 99% of ya sound to like a 60 or 70 % of ya sound. But, no matter what type of style ya playing Guitars, are to me about the right feel and it's like being comfortable... like when you lace up a new pair of sneakers! 👟=🎸!
Max makes every guitar sell out. As usual, I click on the link and it comes up Currently Unavailable.

*Holy Moley; that thing sounds and looks dynamite! I'm curious to see what other styles Boya & Ziqi have to offer! Thanks for the review, Max!*
They have several styles but their prices are pretty high and the reviews are mixed!
@@mikeg6666 Prices are high?! Around $300 is entry level pricing. What a bizarre comment.
@@rmaxtpmx There's nothing bizarre about it , this is a new company and they shouldn't cost over $300 when you can get a Firefly that's been around for awhile and their quality has drastically improved for $150!!!
Awesome Sound ! Gratitudes 4 Ur Review, Max ! I will look into them !
Great playing, you always know how to squeeze every drop of tone out of the guitars that you review. The finish on this instrument looks pretty darn good and coil splitting on a guitar at this price point is also a plus. Keep up the great reviews…

I like how the 22nd fret butts up against the neck pickup like a 70s/80s SG. I like that better than current (and original) SGs where there's a gap between them. It puts the pickups further apart like a Les Paul and also limits some of the neck dive by making it a little shorter. I'll have to check these out!
Agree with you, can tell the difference on the Epiphone Specials, little gap, big difference.
The neck is not in the angle of a real SG.
Thank you for showing me the beautiful guitar! Its colour looks so nice!

I bought a guitar a few years back that very quickly became my favorite. The brand name is Spear, and the model is called the Adventator. It's a solid neck thru w/ passive EMG HZ humbuckers plus wire tap.
Wow that’s a nice guitar ❤ solid build and sounds great! Thank you for great reviews ❤
Kudos for getting built - whilst very evidently looking after your hands, keeping the fingers slim and supple. That is actually quite rare.
Nice vid, I will check out some more....
I dig the clear knobs and it is cool to see the nut is cut decent blue to teal I'm a little skeptical of but it's not bad
I see other companies doing that with the color also. I'm starting to wonder if it's because the blue they choose covers the maple on the edge then as more wood shows through (aged maple can be yellowish) It takes on a slight aqua cast.
Hey Max, interesting guitar. Thanks for sharing that. I might have to check one of those out. I am an SG player for sure. I own four of them looks very interesting. Might be worth spending a couple of bucks to check one out. Thanks.

I miss the use of the sword and armor for the openings, lol! Please bring them back every once and a while. That said I am impressed with this Boya & Ziqi model. Looks and sounds great, plus the affordability almost makes it a must have. Doubt it would sound as great in my hands but at least I know the potential is there.
Yeah, he had T shirts and everything with that sword stuff. Max is some medieval dude at heart I suppose.
Hey, Max. Good video. The horns on a Gibson SG are offset and not symmetrical. The big body difference I see on the Boya and Ziqi is that the edges aren't really contoured and it's more of a slab like a Tele.
First off, excellent fretwork as always. Secondly, this almost makes me want to make a left turn from my next acquisition. I'm looking to get a Schecter with one of those Sustainiac pickups. I really want one of those. I want to do a lot of crazy bends, and trem effects with that guitar. The guitar you demoed sounds pretty damn sweet. Definitely an odd name, but you can tell that they take pride in their work. I might wind up getting one of theirs next round. I do love the fact that this body is more the traditional SG, but I love how they beveled The Edge all the way around. It looks really awesome. Thanks again, brother. Keep rocking always!
I own two Schecters, both of which I bought online sight unseen, and they're both fantastic guitars. I couldn't be happier with them. I wouldn't go near any of these cheaper guitars that Max advertises. Sure, they look and sound great when he presents and plays them, because they make sure to send him a perfect guitar. For any other average consumer, it's a crap-shoot. Chances of getting a defective guitar are substantial.
Dude, you always find the coolest deals!
Very nice looking ... An LP or SG without chrome pick up covers I consider lacking ... This one checks all the boxs
They are in stock now. Great review great playing

He speaks so clearly and concisely!!
Just getting around to watching this 4 days after the video came out and Dang! The price on Blue one already went up a bit. So maybe 339 to 359. Things happen fast these days. Thanks for sharing.
I was very happily surprised at the tones. The neck pup was rich and warm, while the bridge had all the punch you could ask for. As for the frets, I like this style over rounded fret ends. Probably just because of my playing style, I find rounded frets to easy to drop to off the edge on a downward bend of the high E string. This kind gives you a slightly larger playing area... just my preference.... Seems like a fantastic axe for the price!

Sounds great, thanks
Max, great review as always, bro! I have a "bouzouki " but that's a different instrument. At least they would run into any trademark issue there😂
Hey Max! I seem to be seeing some Rhoads body guitars on your rack these days. Developing a fondness for them no doubt.
Man you're a great player. You ought to demo a Quilter Superblock through different cabinets, I feel like you could get some great tones out of one.
In the early 80s Cort put out Lotus and a few other quality off brands. I missed out not knowing any better. Js there's always been good cheap guitars out there.
The thing I don't like about this guitar (or similar ones) is that they use push-pull pots with the top hat style knobs. Speed knobs are so much easier to pull up, and those hat styles are so difficult. Maybe this guitar is different (I don't have it in my hands to test), but I upgraded a cheap Les Paul style guitar to push pulls and immediately regretted leaving those knobs on it.
Otherwise, no complaints. Looks good, sounds good, decent price.

I bet you're wondering: why are our brand's called this? Who are they?Yes, our brand name comes from a story that is very famous in China.
During the Spring and Autumn Period in China(2000 years ago),there was a musician who was good at playing the Guqin, named Yu Boya.
One day, on a boat trip, Boya played a tune he had composed before he became famous, but unfortunately no one could understand it, which expressed the lofty mountains and flowing water. At that moment a woodcutter passing by on the shore listened to it and said exactly what the tune meant. Boya said excitedly:"You're the one who truly understands my music!"and this woodcutter was Zhong Ziqi.
They talked about music very happily and agreed to visit Ziqi again when Boya returned from his trip. When Boya came back, he had already passed away due to illness. Boya was so sad that he broke his Guqin in front of Ziqi's tomb. After that, he never played the Guqin again.
We use the brand name to pay tribute this precious friendship, and we hope to convey this musical friendship with guitars. Know what you want and do what you need, become your musical confidant.
Cool guitar. I've played for 24+ years and one of my first real guitars was a Gibson SG faded special, the cool one with ebony fretboard and crescent moon inlays. Of all the guitars I've had I regret selling it more than any other. I wish I'd kept it. I have a wall of guitars now, 8 gig viable ones and yet I never replaced the SG. I'm interested in this one esp
Love the gradient
Love your tone.!
Impressive for a budget Guitar and yes pretty much every good Guitarist thinks the action can be lower. I'd put some Deans on it and lower the action meself if I owned it. Excellent finish. SG shape is comfortable to me. Very familiar. Pleased with the Sound. Then again I've never heard u Sound bad. U shred. Outstanding video imo u broke down the pros and cons of the instrument very well without bias. Thanks. Is like I got to sample the Guitar without buying it. I appreciate that and I enjoy listening to u play Guitar and watching ya channel. Good job.
Sounds Great, and as minor as it is, I like those transparent Pot Knobs. Set Neck, inlays, binding.... full LPBridge. coil taps. For under 400$ that is a good Guitar. I guess we see how they age.
Love your videos. Clear, articulate, informative. Pretty cool guitar, but to my ears, the pickups sounded ice-picky. Could just be an iPhone through earbuds thing, though. Good video!

The name brnd Ibanez was borrowed in the 1960s in Japan because it sounded "Spanish." But Boya & Ziqi ain't got *nuthin'* on the brand name Dot On Shaft. I think it came from a translation from Chinese to English in an attempt to describe the neck of a guitar.
Interesting. Model has ghosted Amazon, although two others present. Thanks for the demo! Priced well for my ability and wallet.
Hi Max, I just wanted to thank you for all your videos and gear reviews! I've been hemmed up here in bed for some time due to a military spine injury. I'm having my 7th spine surgery next week. I want to say that I'm going to find one of your signature Harley Benton guitars! What a great looking axe! Unfortunately, all my funds are going to co-pays right now. If I ever get my hands on one, can I send it to you to sign it? Thanks again for all you do!
Great guitar Max. I have been in China for some time. If the brand is Romanized spelling of Chinese characters, I believe Ziqi is pronounced as Zi Chi (Q in China is equivalent to CH)
Boya & Ziqi existed during the Warring states period.
You should give a look at HLK guitars. I own two and enjoy them both. My first one came with a hardcase and a five star setup for a little ove 200 bucks. Their prices are rising a bit but the quality is there.
HLK = Hard Luck Kings yeah? I did review one a while back and the guitar was good, but something things about the way they sell the guitars I don't really care for, and a lot of people have had bad experiences with them. Again though, the guitar I got was good.
From Leo: The SG is the only gibson solid body I like. That one looks like a great example. Of course Max knows how to make everything sound great.
I love my B&Z SG! I have the Red one...I also ready the B and Z story when researching these guys.. Hahaha
I love the look and color and the sound was smooth and it would be a great all around the spectrum guitar hopefully they last 🤘🙏👍
Nice Vid and like your opinion on frets. i bought a Gibson Acoustic a year ago put new strings on it and put about 20 hours on it and just got too lazy to set it up as i've got other acoustics that sound just as good, even lower priced models. i'm not whining and know guitars need a setup, but I'm very disappointed in Gibson for the craftsmanship. it's uncool to throw out other manu names, but i like handmade acoustics at 1/2 the price that come from Canada I also have a Gibson Gospel that plays awesome, but it's a Jumbo and not a guitar i can just leave on a stand that i can pickup on a whim and bang out a song. And yeah, i play elec too, but i gigged in the 80's and did 70's cover band up until 2014 and just don't crank up the Amps as often. Your vids are invaluable to teach up and coming guitarists that ability is more important than equipment. And yeah, i had a Gibson Marauder when i was 14 and stupidly traded in my Lawsuit Univox LP Copy when I was learning to play Smoke on the Water. I'm a Geezer and wish i had info like this back in the 70's. Keep helping the up and coming Guitar Players and even us who played for 40 years. Dec 2023, Merry Christmas Axe Men, hope Santa is good this year.
I have to admit that I laughed for twenty minutes or more over your response to the end of this would famous Chinese legend; very funny!!! I am a relatively new player in the US, with a history of many musicians in the family and have been familiar with that legend since childhood. It is a unique and inspiring story worldwide, of the dedication of expression, even if never understood. ThanX MaX
Thanks for a very nice review of an impressive budget guitar. The only things I'd say are that I think it's better to dem these things through real amps - the "software tizz" is present throughout, and we know nothing of the fully-loaded tone control set up but - so what? At that money, everyone get get a decent axe, we're knee deep in them and he plays well enough to dem that and covers all the important stuff. Great!
My main man Max got a question where u are kinda with harley benton I was really wanting the harley benton sc-550 pay paradise amber burst les paul and was wondering if u could gratefully do a reveiw on that guitar !
Damn that sounds killer!!!
dude that axe is sick, man one day imma be that awesome, making vids, jammin, and stuff, but let's face it, I got butterfingers cheap cameras and dude, my hair aint never gonna look that good! haha that is sick man I wanna sg style man but like a red and black one that one has a sick paint job man sounds great to!
Sweet!!! How was the neck shape like an SG with the fatter kind of Les Paul d-shaped neck? I used to have an old Gibson Melody maker which had the offset cutaways that had a very thin neck more like a strat style I love those body styles on the SG but I don't like the fat neck you know PRS Les Paul SG style neck as far as the thickness and shape.
What do you plug your boss ir 200 into? Does it go through an amp or to an audio interface? I appreciate the show very much. Thanks Max - Rick from Brooklyn
Cheers for the Manowar shirt. 🤘💀🤘 Brothers of Metal

Hi Max, I like SG guitars for their look and sound, but does this one have the same trouble with neck dive like the original post 1960's SG's do ?

The clean sound on the single coil mode is because it isn't single coil but a series to parallel switch. To check this measure the dc resistance output which will show something like 9k to 12k ohms. Single mode coil would measure something like 4.5 to 6k but parallel would show approx 2.25 to 3.00 . Nothing new as Seymour Duncan 's schematics show the wiring. You could also just look at the switch wiring
To see how it is achieved ! The advantage of the series/ parallel switching you can already hear !
Enough history for today...
Btw that sounds awesome.very good sustain
Max, great video. Once again, I would like to have
