A budget alternative to Cold Steel's O-Tanto, the United Honshu Tanto features a 10.7 inch long blade, 440 stainless steel, hollow grind, full tang, and textured rubber overmold handle. Price around $36.
Nice reality check, that should go out to some other youtubers "Are you really getting into a lot of sword fights? I sure hope not" made my day a bit brighter:D
Looks like a good knife for beating the shit out of camping and not feeling too bad about it. Hollow grind like that would probably be great for food prep, better then a lot of my flat grind hard use knives. Thanks for the review, I'll probably pick one up!
I just saw those yesterday. Very interesting for the low price, definitely going to review one.
I ordered this after your review of the honshu fighter. I look forward to bashing it about! A nice zombie killer backup. Thanks for the reviews . Have a great Christmas!
Thank you Herb, quite a resume you have :] People would be amazed to know who is out there watching, I talk to lot of vets and combat vets, and have listened to their experiences and learned much.
Awesome. The Special Forces did indeed study Kuntao Silat in the 70s, I know.
This is the first Honshu that I purchased, I wanted to compare it to the CS Magnum Tanto that I received a year or so ago from 1 of my son-inlaw ! that is an awesome specimen and is prominently displayed in my collection. This Honshu was a very nice surprise, it is well made, a good looking blade, fairly sharpm feels great in my hand and should I ever decide to take it camping would not feel bad about using it! Actually my BK9 is what goes in the field with me LOL. Nice review once again!
@FuwaForestFilmsHD - Glad you found a blade you like.
It looks pretty badass. I have the Cheness Mountain Guardian Katana and Wakizashi, and they are very good. I'm going to review the Cheness Wakizashi next month.
In most cases, I'd rather go with the more traditional tanto shaped blade like the Honshu, especially with a longer blade like this. If it's a shorter knife like the Cold Steel Kobun then the secondary point is fine. But in a longer blade, I like it to be more like a combat katana. This definitely fits.
I like that Tanto. The dagger too! Got em both lol. Not disappointed...
@TheHossUSMC - 440 is very rust resistant, so you're good.
@1crimm - Thanks JW!
@mikedifeo - Anything beyond around 14 inches in blade length could be considered a short sword, for me.
@koioo2 - Lol thanks Alberto. Home Klingon use forever!
@rok4555 - Congrats! hard to go wrong at the price!
That thing is nice!
To me, the black finish looks more like a toy than a satin finish blade.
you Should check out the Sog toothlock if you have not it is a rather small blade. But it is almost as smooth as the arch lock is on the top line sogs are.
Can u do a review on the honshu boshin bowie ?
I love it. Touch it up with some ceramic and it would be awesome.
nice!! It dose look pritty badass. you should see some of the desrution tests by Paul Southren on some of the non differentially hardened blade forged from 9260 Silicon Alloy Spring Steel blades, of which im pritty sure that Tanto is a member
You are the man. Tnx.
man that blade is sick blade wonder how hard it would be to make a kydex scabbard for this blade
what do you think about the honshu karambits ... they look so cool ...
Not sure
i have one. i practice tanto jutsu with it. its a serious blade
I like that one! But how do they get tanto out of it?? It looks sorta like my Buck Nighthawk....
@chibicascade - China, I think.
it reminds me of the crkt Hisshou except 300 dollars less lol
badass
Saw one broken the tang is like 3/4 .
I've always preferred the traditional Japanese style tanto over the Americanized tanto design. With the Japanese style tanto, you have both cutting and piercing capabilities. With the Americanized tanto, you still have the great piercing ability, but cutting is harder than say a drop point or clip point because of the "0" belly
I don't mind a cheap knife as long as it is sharp out of the box and cuts like a knife should (Spyderco Tenacious- perfect example). If not, not worth buying i.m.o
what do you think of the Cheness Tanto?
Well the knife companies pick the names they use, not i
@trigun890 maybe not legally...but we really can if you think about it =p
Huh, I never really realized how short a sword the tanto was until I saw this vid, thanks. It's more of a short short sword than anything... unless this is a small tanto @.@
How long is the actual blade though, cause from as far as I can tell, it looks to be about 8-9 inches long.
i got the United Black Honshu Fighter very nice one
black looks nice too and yeah cold steel its crazy in holland it cost like 600euro for Cold Steel Magnum Tanto XII
There are FAR better blades for FAR less money then Cold Steel blades. Its like apple, Their good but super hyped and overly expensive
Not really. Cold steel are tried and tested buddy. If you can point to a tanto that's on the same level as the cold steel for cheaper I'm directed all love to know.
@idkmm7 - I could be like the Slap Chop guy "you're gonna love my big black tool."
Good for barbecue?
Benchmade Custom Mini-Griptillian, or a Sage 1.
Ah, going big! EXcellent lol
What grade of 440? 440C is actually fairly decent, 440A is nearly junk, on the level of plain-Jane 420...
I can get one about this size in carbon steel wooden handle for ~55$, or a carbon steel khyber knife same size for less.
I remember about 20 years ago I got a Khyber knife, it was made in Pakistan, had about an 18 inch blade, great knife for the price.
Looks a lot more like a cold steel tanto
This deserves to be in CS: GO IMO.
You get what you pay for. Quality knives SHOULD cost more.
This thing is little more than a fancy kitchen knife.
@WeAllJuggleKnives haha WIN!
5:00 - "It's probably not well heat treated that well either". Exactly, blackforestghost1 made an abuse test of this blade (watch?v=_4zdtzKNQ8A) and it broke while batoning. Now I know that this blade it's not made for batoning but I'm sure that you understand the point of making an abuse test to see how much the blade can hold on. In my mind this is a trainnig/novelty blade.
blackforestghost1 really beat the heck out of it ..... something nobody in their right mind would do. This is a show and a defensive knife in a bad situation.
you gonna laugh.for me this is very close to a klingon dagger.and for home use,its perfect.
i like chief,appear luxury.so this knife i buy after i paid mi motorola X 11
for maby a sports arena is t good.home use perfect
Dont baton with it. Watch blackforestghost1, s video. Handle snapped off. Whoops
I saw LOL

I feel honored, that YOU watched one of my vid, Sir. You are one of the most important knife reviewers on YT!
To the honshu tanto: In Germany it cost me 79,95 Euro, which equals 90 Dollars! You, in America, are blessed with affordable price tags - we - in Europe - are not(unfortunately).
United Cutlery has so many nice designs, why do they not make it in good Quality - even when it would result in a bit higher prices? Sad!
All my U.C. products are crap in Quality. I also have a lot of cheap blades, which did not fail those batoning tests. YOu, in America, have a lot of good knife brands! But: U.C. is NOT one of them! (Maybe since they only produce in Asia and for the lowest costs - just a guess). U.C. sells their products only because of freaky designs(I admit, they are cool). But I never held a U.C. knife in my hands, which I can recommend for real use.
Best regards from Southern Black Forest, Germany
Chris
Keep up your excellent video- work!
I like their gladiator sword. Seems pretty solid to me but I know a lot of their stuff is junk with cool design. Ashame
Yes, I agree! They got a lot of cool-looking stuff!
Don't try to baton your way through the zombies and you'll be fine.
日本刀っぽいナイフをよく見かけるようになったな
can you see a navy seal taking one of these into battle.
yeah, i could see them using this, if they had to pay for their own gear (just one reason i don't pay taxes.) but believe me, your impaled enemy will not care what type of steel your knife was made out of. by my estimation you could dispatch several adversaries with this before it needed resharpening or the the tip broke or anything. probably even a couple dozen. it doesn't take a razor sharp edge to kill someone. and besides idk anybody, not even navy seals who go around dispatching multiple armed people in quick succession with a blade.
Wow, long blade. This looks more like sword.
When do you consider a knife becomes a sword?
Miek Di Feo
to big for me ...i'll stick with my US MARINES SPRING ASSISTED OPENING KNIFE
An non heat treated blade with a rat tail tang… I’d rather save my money
to bad u can't carry that thing on a daily basis. stupid ass laws we have.
@commieforniatactical - They all die, die by my hand!
