      I'm always for reducing the number of casters since when everyone can cast spells the magic doesn't feel special (especially as the classes share spells with each other). But then again that's probably just how D&D is so it's just to accept it if one wants to play in that vein.

    I don't like the idea of that wizard sigil feature. I'll reserve judgement until I see it in play in it's final form, but speaking as a wizard player, repositioning yourself is incredibly important to stay alive as such a squishy and strategic class. Having a feature that pins you down to one place seems to encourage a stationary playstyle which is both dangerous and less interesting to me.

  • @StuzalIuday
    @StuzalIuday Před 9 měsíci

    My hope for the bard (and I hope you read this), is for it to be another half caster like paladin. However, rather than using its stamina for attack damage, it should be used for giving buffs to a friends, debuffs to foes, and bonuses to the bard for skill checks. And the bard should gain stamina from taking the help action. Keep the spell list minimal but allow the bard to cherry pick one spell from any list every number of levels or so to allow the bard to “spec out”.
    The balance can be that, as a half caster, it can’t battlefield control or spell blast as well as full casters. And it doesn’t get weapon or armor proficiencies, which will prevent the bard from outshining martials.
    Of course, you can simply make a warrior bard or spell focused bard by stealing talents from other classes.

  • @cajunmitch4081
    @cajunmitch4081 Před 9 měsíci +2

    I'm still not sure how I feel about the Monk. One of it's biggest issues was from a pure design perspective. All of the other classes, even yours, are setting agnostic, they can fit into any culture/setting. However, the Monk is specifically of Asian flavor; it sticks out like a sore thumb. Add onto that, every archetype you can think of for a monk fits into another existing class. Kensei or Open Palm? Fighter. Way of Shadows? Rogue. 4 Elements? Druid. Drunken Master? Barbarian. Your monk sounds fun, but it still doesn't fit unless the game is set in fantasy asia.
    The Ranger changes sound nice though, it should have always felt like you were playing a Witcher, which this sounds like it might.

    • @renard2195
      @renard2195 Před 9 měsíci +1

      Allow me this thought, the term monk is more europian than asian, in term of someone living in a monastery, an abbey, cultivating a simple life of self-cultivation. Furthermore, there was martial artists all over the world. Yes, pop culture went us to think martial arts = Far East, but like Africa has great martial arts thrhough its whole continent. And one of my favorite fiction has a european fighting monk: as much a Robin Hoods might be the leader of the Merry Men, 'tis Little John that I envisaged actually forming the band on how to fight... and he'll kick thy ass, yet I do not see an ounces of asian style in him, even if he'll be going around with the dozen of barrels that he self-brew.

    Idk about the fighter gettin adv on death saves dont know if it applies to the battlefield
    I do like that they get better on rolls throughout the battle but ideally i think that could be more of an subclss or capstone rather than a core feature
    Cus they already have second wind, action surge, and their techniques
    But its a fair add but id argue for not off the bat or have to make a choice for it
    Also Something i like is having non magical healing be classic temp hp
    It cant be stacked and it can make you more powerful than your limits
    Separates it from holy healing

    Now I just want to know what are minion class options?
    Minion classes. Someone who controls Elementals, Beasts, Spirits, Undeads or Demons. Perhaps even someone who can lead followers but that usually don't fit well with TTRPGs.
    Wizard Necromancer using Animate Dead
    Druid casting Conjure Animal
    Ranger Beast Master (Personally we run that the beast has brain and will kill your enemies without needing an attack command)
    Warlock Pack of the Minion
    Rogue Arcane Tricskter Find Familiar
    There are two ways to take this. You have one single powerfull minion or many weak minions. Quality vs Quantity.
    But also in some cases like PF2e Summoner people say the Minion takes the center light of the whole class and makes you the player feel secondary to that, but that is something I enjoy.

    The DC20 system looks super promising.
    I though want to highlight that, Coach, you should be careful that the mechanics do not become too complex. Else I fear you land in a similar problem zone as 4E or 3E used to be. Don‘t get me wrong I also liked 4E a lot (mainly cause of fighters and warlords) but the number crunching was coming into the way of fast and easy play, without taxations.
    After 25 years DnD (AD&D to 5E) I feel that an awesome system mechanic to me should be a mix of: tactical combat, customisation options for creating flavourful character concepts (no best path) and lean mechanics for fast play. All in the context of heroic fantasy.
    I feel you have addressed a lot of those already. I hope the playtest will give you good insights were the mechanics might go too far.

    Not sure where to put these questions: 1) Warlord banner ability says that you can spend 1 AP to take help action or reaction. "The creature must be within 5 spaces of your banner". Does this get rid of the normal help action requirement that the Warlord needs to be within 1 space of the PC or target enemy? Can I Help Action at range with this?......2) Spells like Fire bolt say that it costs 1 AP to cast in order for the flame to remain in your hand for 10 minutes, then under "spell attack" it says I can spend 1AP to make a spell attack with it. Does this mean if I'm in combat, I need to spend 1 AP to create the fire and then a 2nd AP to attack with it? That's at least how i read it. If that's not the case, please consider revising some words. ... Thanks a bunch

    Have you played Guild Wars 2? I think you'd get A LOT of cool ideas. Some of these things remind me GW2. Also, I want to buy this already. I honestly think I'd drop D&D for this.
    Would you create an adaptation guide to adapt 5e content to DC20?

    Freebie idea: I believe wizards should not only be able to copy spells from scrolls but may also be able to figure out spells being cast by others (some sort if a check) and then replicate them. They should also be able to analyze runes and long lasting spell effects (such as wards on doors, chests etc.) and potentially dismantling them

    On keeping creative and thinking outside the box...
    The only thing I'm worried about from what I've seen in DC20 is how things have bene conceptualized according to boxes a bit like Pathfinder. I call Pathfinder "Classfinder"... the class fantasy is hard baked into the rules. The features play a huge role and those serve to make very specific class concepts happen. For one example, most of my Clerics aren't about being church templars and I have no use for most of the features of that when I want to try to make a warrior with some of the hybrid-mu possibilities which make the rules for Clerics in 5e great.

    Wizard and sorcerer seem quite similar, are they both necessary?
    As you can choose you prime attribute being able to freely determine your relationship with magic would be cool.
    I'm a might "magic man" so my magic comes from within me
    I'm a int "magic man" so my magic come from study.
    I think I just prefer less classes and more subclasses. I feel the same for warlord. Could that just be a subclass for fighter?

    Monks should have to use weapons for lethal effect in melee just like everyone else. The Shaolin monks of China and the Warrior Monks of Japan, the Sohei all used weapons on the battlefield (and presumably vs Dragons if there were any :o). All unarmed combat comes from weapons arts. The strange movements in certain martial arts are often simply an adaption of a weapon technique adapted for unarmed combat. The reverse punch in karate comes from staff/spear technique for example. In this way, a Warrior Monk or Samurai doesn't have to spend time learning a new fighting style, they would just adapt what they already know for unarmed combat.

    I’ve been binge-watching your videos the past few days, and I gotta say DC20 might honestly be a paradigm shift in TTRPG design. I just bought the Alpha today, and I’m so excited to potentially get to play this!
    Any chance that the game will support solo or cooperative play? It’s a method of play that’s really in the rise in popularity, yet I still don’t see many systems natively cater to it.

    As always amazing thing to know more about your game Coach!
    I have a few questions to the classes:
    1. Is there some Arcane/Holly Focus items for classes in DC20 just like in DnD ??
    2. What do you think about features for Cleric "Sanctuary" that would work just like a banner for Warlord ??
    But Cleric would need to withdraw from the battle and keep praying in the Sanctuary as Warlord in feature "Stand Up Banner" would need to protect banner that could be distroyed giving players disadventage for rounds equal to his stand. For example if banner stand for 6 rounds and is destroyd it gives players 6 rounds of disadventage.
    Baner would have 1HP 1AC and 1 space at the first round, and will expand every round for 1HP 1AC and 1space

      1. Spell focuses are not a mandatory part of spellcasting, I didn’t think it was needed or more fun for it to be in the game. (Nor does it connected to the lore of the world)
      2. I can totally see the spell sanctuary working somewhat like that. I don’t think it would necessarily be a class feature as much as it would be a spell.

    I just wanna say, it is extremely interesting seeing the development of the MCDM RPG in parallel with the DC20 RPG, and be able to watch and listen how the different development phylosophies create different mechanics and how each make emphasis in different points in the common persuit of the same concept: an RPG that is mainly FUN. So far, they both seem awesome, and would probably end up playing some campaings with them or stealing from both systems heavily.
    I am just sad that they both insist in including a Psionic class, don't get me wrong, it is understandable, after all they are trying to correct some of the missing pieces of D&D and that is one I guess, and I know is a fantasy for some people, but for me it just drags me out of the magic world into X-men territory, some would say "just don't use it", but that is not a solution, I would love to just see some of it's mechanics in another class. Others would say "just homebrew it later in your own world" and yeah... but most "character builders" that are later embeded in the every day VTTs (it is easier to introduce a new player to a new sistem when they can just click buttons and level up instead of having to read half a Player's Handbook worth of rules) are hard to modify without breaking everything or require extremely careful work, and running a campaing is already enough work for the DM.
    In any case, I enjoy every one of the new videos, great work.
