Wik & Kugu Artists Open AAK NGENCH THAYAN | Strong Country In Melbourne

It was an honour to welcome Wik & Kugu artists Bruce Bell, Garry Namponan and Leigh Namponan as well as Art Centre Manager, Gabe Waterman and guest speaker Tony Albert to our Melbourne gallery last week for the official opening event for Aak Ngench Thayan | Strong Country.
At the event, we also launched ‘YALKANG KEE’THANG’ produced by Aurukun’s Woyan-min Project and the Wik & Kugu Arts Centre. The film - which documents the art centre’s ceremonial traditions and the contemporary art practices generated from the art centre today - was made exclusively for, and can be viewed as part of the exhibition.
