So sad even Bob Dylan wrote a song . Some say Davey Moore was murdered. Either way the boxing commission began making changes after a few more fighters fell into comas. Castro stopped all boxing in Cuba. This was the time when boxing business was beginning to sore a boxing club in every city with young boys wanting to reach there boxing dreams. The toughest way to get out of the ghetto . Purses were just about $25,000 nothing compared its peek purses in the 80s & 90s . Boxing isn't like it use to be infact most don't stay home like we use to to watch a fight or basketball game , baseball, hockey. Dam my last great hockey game Bobby Orr with the Bruins. Gone are the days of great sports along with the announcers... The millennium stinks !

Wow, fellas! I also know that tune; I’ve been a Dylan fan for nearly 40 years.
Did either of you know that by an incredible coincidence, there was another fighter, also called Davey Moore, a light middleweight, who died just six days short of his 29th birthday on the 3rd of June, 1988? The first Davey Moore was a featherweight and was 29 when he died, so they were almost identical in age.
The second Davey Moore died as a result of his four wheel drive vehicle rolling down his drive. As he attempted to halt its momentum, he was dragged under the vehicle and crushed to death.
A sad, tragic irony that two World Champion boxers (WBA the second one) with the same name, at almost the very same age should die a generation apart (25 years).

I remember the Song, Who Killed Davey Moore, written by Bob Dylan, with regard to this fight. Like the fight, the song also dated from 1963. He was a featherweight, who died at the age of 29 with delayed reaction injuries after damage to his brain stem after his neck hit the bottom rope of the ring, during a knockdown (as pointed out in your description).
And by an incredible coincidence, there was another Davey Moore, a light middleweight, who died on the 3rd of June, 1988, just six days before his 29th birthday.
The second Moore died as a result of his four wheel drive vehicle rolling down his drive at his home and dragging him under it as he attempted to bring the vehicle to a halt.
It’s certainly a sad, incredible irony that two World Champions with the same name would both die tragically young, 25 years apart.

So sad, such a long shot injury. How a fighter can be hit so many times from hard punches and survive but then bang the back of his head on a ring rope and the swelling becomes fatal.
    Report:
"Los Angeles autopsy surgeon said that it was a "one-in-a-million accident-something that could happen on your front porch if you fell down." ...The fatal blow was a whiplash injury that occurred in the tenth round, when Moore fell backward and hit the base of his skull on a rubber-covered steel ring rope. The collision caused brain contusions, or bruises, and the resultant swelling brought death."

Why do humans do this he says. It's called starvation...sickness...lack of shelter...clothing, etc. Let me guess...you've never gone without any, let alone, all of these simultaneously, have you? I bet you atleast had the opportunity of getting a decent education, didn't you? Was your old man around ? Did your mother work herself to the bone? Did you have to be the man of the house at a very young age? As Jack Dempsey once said,"Don't eat for 3 days...you'll get the picture.". Boxing is a way out of poverty for boys in the ghetto. Boxing affords these men a living even if only for awhile. Boxing instills discipline, character, and virtues that you can take with you the rest of your life. Why do humans do this he ask's. It's a poor man's thing. You wouldn't understand. What I would like to fucking know is why do humans jump out of perfectly fine airplanes? Why do they race around tracks at 200 mph? Why do kids with college educations play NFL football when there's a good chance they'll end up punch drunk, or crippled later on in life? Why do educated middle class to upper class humans swim with great white sharks or try to live in the wild with grizzly bears? Why did Steve Irwin decide he'd hover over a sting Ray and then realized he fucked with the wrong sting ray after it was too late. Those are real questions. It's a no brainer WHY fighters fight. But, as I said, YOU and your ilk wouldn't understand.

    • @TheChoice264
      @TheChoice264 Před 10 lety +1

Did Davey Moore want to die? No. Let me ask you a question. What if someone could interview Davey Moore from beyond the grave and asked him, "Davey...if you could do it all over again, would you do it it different?". Do you know what Davey would say? I'll tell you exactly what he would've said because I'm a fighter and it's the same thing ALL fighters will say. Davey would NOT say he," Uh..well...I never would've taken up boxing.". He WOULD HAVE said,"Yes, I'd do it different...I'd come into that fight with Sugar Ramos with a better strategy and I'd knock him the fuck out.". That's what a fighter would say and Davey Moore was just no fighter...he was the champion of the world...and he was just no champion of the world...he was one of the greats. So please, if you don't mind, go back to listening to your Bob Dylan or what ever the hell brought you here, and go sip on a lemonade and play your tennis with Cassidy and Martha and do us a favor and STOP asking dumb fucking questions that you can't possibly understand because you never walked a mile in a ghetto boy's shoes. Ok? Don't worry about us, we'll be just fine. Atleast you referred to us as humans. We're used to being called animals, retards, and palooka's. Have a great day sunshine. And by all means...R.I.P.

It’s worth noting that both men had nothing but respect for each other. Ramos even says directly after the fight (before Davey fell into a coma) that he deserved the rematch because he was a true champion. This was nothing but a terrible accident that sadly claimed the life of a boxing legend. If it’s any consolation, the Moore family never blamed Sugar Ramos and they both attended a statue unveiling in Davey’s honour. It’s nice to know that despite what happen, there was no animosity or fingers pointed between them. RIP to both Davey and Sugar

His body weight is what hurt him. Falling down to land on something is never good.

Curtis Neilson Yeah, I read that's the worst possible part of your brain to get hit at. Which is why the skull is thickest there. It's a shame.

This video has two major problems.
One can't be helped-that's Steve Ellis, the broadcaster.
He was maybe the worst fight announcer who ever lived.
Sadly, in 1963 the best fight announcers were still on radio-namely Les Kiter and Howard Cosell.
Even the great Don Dunphy, the maestro on radio, was sad on TV.
the other problem with this vid is, it keeps stopping for no apparent reason.
I heard the Bob Dylan song "Who Killed Davy Moore," today and wanted to know what it was about.
