The Last Blockbuster in Bend, Oregon

- Hello everyone!
Here I am in Bend, Oregon to visit the very last Blockbuster in existence.
In 2018, it became the last Blockbuster store in the United States, and in 2020, it became the world's last remaining retail store using the Blockbuster brand.
The last Blockbuster is located in 211 NE Revere Avenue in Bend, Oregon. it was opened by Ken and Debbie Tisher in 1992 and it was originally opened in 1992 as Pacific Video and converted into a Blockbuster in 2000.
The location has now become a popular tourist attraction and in 2020 the store is the subject of the documentary film, The Last Blockbuster created by Bend filmmakers. It was released for sale and rent on DVD and VHS, as well as streaming on Netflix.

I really, really miss walking into Blockbuster Friday night, renting 2 DVD movies, buying popcorn, sodas, and some chocolate, and watching it with my girlfriend on the couch together. We"'re married now, and we watch movies on Netflix with the kids. But I would do anything to get that feeling back. It's just much more fun, and you look forward to it rather than going through the controllers and streaming a movie.

@@LeslieLoveThat store has an online shop and they sell a candle that smells like the store! I bought on for my gaming room in my house. I'll play a movie or a video game and light that candle and it just acts like a time machine for me lol.

It was the yellow and blue colors that got me. Idk, but I felt like I was living at a 2nd house. A very expensive 2nd house, lol.

I can remember back in the 1st grade that blockbuster was always a Friday night trip. Pizza Hut was ordered or picked up and me and my siblings would choose a movie ( on vhs). My grandma made sure that we had good memories in some way.

They are so lucky they still get to have a Blockbuster. They really need to make a comeback! Movie companies are even putting some of their movies on VHS.
Would be great if blockbuster miraculously made a comeback and multiple stores starting opening up again. This is highly unlikely though since we're in the streaming age, but hey, miracles do happen.
I think we're gonna see a resurgence in dvds, blu rays because a lot of people are sick of streaming services ha . I hope they do come back 👌

i watched an MTV production blurb that wasn't very long, from back in the day, and it was Brittany Murphy. She was in NYC, and they were recording her while she went to BlockBuster and grabbed some movies for her Thursday night. This was back when the franchise was still going strong, and she checked out her movies just like it always used to happen.. those times we took for granted.. yet they were golden times...
Man I miss those times so much which is why visiting here was so special :)

Great memories going into the video rental store and getting 3 movies for the weekend. I really do miss going into a video rental store and renting movies. I have never used redbox.

I remember every Friday after school I’d go to my local one with my mum and she’d by us popcorn and either rent a movie for us or a video game for me, man I miss them days 😭

Though this does bring back many memories of when I was a kid, I don’t think it will be the same if they brought them back. I did look forward to Friday and Saturday nights walking to the Blockbuster close to where I lived.

Blockbuster was for rich people (in my eyes) when I was a kid. I would go to the $1 rental mom and pop. 3 copies come back tomorrow at 2pm 1 copy returning, for sure! Man good times

16:16 I haven't either for a very long time. In 2023, I finally saw it for the very first time (age 31) because my friend won't be quiet about it. It is not that good watching as a adult but kids would absolutely love it. I just love it because it's an American classic. Just like a bunch of movies you showed here, lol.

So we spend a lot of times walking in our " Video Club " (that's how we call it in Greece) to discuss about a movie , about a ps game , to buy popcorn and coke for a night.. what blessing times... Me and my Uncle we live in Canada 🇨🇦 and we used to have 8 Blockbusters in our city and they all closed down when they failed for bankruptcy 😩 , we want to someday plan a trip to come down to this last existing BB Ever 😍🥰 ! 💛💙💛💙💛💙💛💙💛

Like others in the comments I live in Bend and get the privilege of still going to Blockbuster all the time. It makes for a nice weeknight outing, even got a pizza place right next door.

No we didn’t, because we had specific plans. But I have been to Portland many times before and I think it’s beautiful.
We did go to a pumpkin and corn maze that was I guess on the border of Portland and St. Helens.

I love video rental stores and used media shops like fye. Rentals are gone but theres plenty of used media stores so thats nice. Bend is probably the most isolated metro on the west coast (and thats saying something)

This vest was part of my costume for Les Miserables. The actual uniform had sleeves and a tail.
When doing horse riding scenes in this costume, with a blue riding coat over the top it was very uncomfortable.
So I asked the costume department to make a vest that was only what you would say under the coat.

@@LeslieLove Yeah, it was strange it was even open at all, this was VERY late in Blockbuster’s lifespan, I think they only opened it because we were such a rural area.

I worked in a blockbuster i a small town i the late 90's...i had to go thru and file the late fees...the place was making millions of dollars on late fees and 100's of thousands on rentals and sales. Blockbuster was busted for running a racket on the late fees later...i can't remember the details.

I wonder how the owners still keep their business running. With the increase in wages and rent. Plus, most of the stuff today you can either stream or just buy it online and watch at home. Don't want to sound negative or pessimistic but is just a thought. I really miss those days.

Well they sell merchandise which I believe you can buy online, they also get a lot of visitors coming from all over the world and the locals actually go in and rent movies. Now I’m not sure how much they are making but thank God it’s enough to stay open
