    I remember back in the 80’s there was a bike bivi that slung over the top crossbar for support. Looked pretty neat but can’t find a trace on the internet now.

    I like the idea of using your bike as part of the tent. This will make me less paranoid of my expensive bike being stolen while I sleep!

      I plan on doing overnight mtbriding, whith hammock, if you stay the night away of tracks you are more or less okay, just a little U- lock+ steel cable around a tree, you put your bike under a little tarp ( sound if moved)

    Thought on the buckles, if you move them around so they are at the front instead of bridging the handle bar they will secure correctly and shouldn't come loose.

    Thanks for the review. If I get one I will strap it to my backpack. I don't like stuff hanging off my handlebars. I do like the compact nature of it.

  • @sanatandharma4435
    @sanatandharma4435 Před 11 měsíci

    If you put the fork ground peg in a small seperate cotton bag the issue of it sticking out may be resolved. I would also put a bungee around the tent to decrease the possibility of detachment from the handle bars. The tent bag does indeed seem thin material, but a lot of tents have this.
    The design of the tent seems a sound idea that needs a little more refining, especially the 'turning the handlebars around,' that seems silly!
    Thanks for this review.

    You can try using those spreader poles that are used in hammocks these days. and atach them to the fly. Using velcrove straps from the outside of the tent.

      If you're touring on a 3k bike then you have more money than sense. And it's outside each night whatever your tent. Unless you have it inside, then you really are crazy.

    • @DavidChurcheese
      @DavidChurcheese Před 3 lety +1

      @@garymitchell5899 "And it's outside each night whatever your tent" : No it's not. There are tents that are made to store your bike INSIDE, in a specific compartment. You can lock it to the tent so nobody could take it without taking the tent with him and it's hidden from outside view. In addition, depending on where you are touring, in nature and far away from civilisation for instance, it is not crazy at all, nor does it reveal "more money than sens", to ride a 3, 4 or even 5k bike. Keep your biased and stupid opinions for yourself.

    looks ingenious at first sight but think about it: You cannot use your bike as long as the tent is built up which kinda sucks. Imagine you are camping near a small town and wanna take a quick ride to the supermarket? Some people prefer to lock their bike over night too, I doubt that the advantage in using the bike as a structure for the tent outweights all these downsides

    • @Mavrick1509
      @Mavrick1509 Před 6 lety +1

      well, since the bike is the tent it would be pretty hard to steal without alerting the person attached to said bike

    • @Roman-nu1om
      @Roman-nu1om Před 6 lety

      Mavrick1509 yes but you cannot leave the place for a small hike either if you have to guard the bike the whole time. I'd rather want to set up my tent independently, lock my bike and be free to go or use the bike if deemed necessary. What if you decide to camp for several days in a row? Will you stop using your bike for the time the tent is set up or rebuild the tent every evening ?

    • @Mavrick1509
      @Mavrick1509 Před 6 lety +2

      I don't intend on staying multiple nights at the same location I'm traveling 1500km's, and only sleeping when I'm not riding. this isn't a camping tent, it's a touring tent used to rest between rides. You could always lock your bike and tent to a tree that you set up your tent by if you so wish?

    Man, just get a tiny free-standing tent like the Big Agnes Flycreek or the MSR Hubba. Those tents are extremely lightweight, and you don't have to fuddle around with your bike every evening. And if you don't have Big Agnes or MSR money, then get the chinese knock-off called Nature Hike Cloud Up. Google it - these are outstanding tents, weigh in at just a hair over 1.5kg, and can be packed down quite small...

    Thanks for the review. I do hope Topeak listens to beefier stitching and maybe adding some durability to the bottom of the bag itself for road debris. I’m curious if you can into any rain did the bag keep the tent somewhat dry or is it a really light weight bag and not so much with moisture. For the sagging I’m curious about maybe putting on some attach points and use a guy line each side to help reduce that and give some more room. It will also allow water drainage to be a bit better I’d imagine. I’m looking at a big Agnes fly creek tent they weigh in around 2lbs for the trail and seem to be a bit less bulky then this tent. I do love the concept, but topeak needs to make an updated version and work some kinks out

    *I wonder how well this handles rain (or midnight sprinklers!)??
    A few years ago I had seriously thought about buying one of these Topeak Bike Camper tents, but like other commenters, I thought a significant drawbacks to it for me was fiddling with the bike wheel every night -- too much wear and tear on critical parts that need to be stable.
    Eventually I decided on a NEMO OBI 2 tent. It weighs ~2½ lbs -- light for its durability (I've already camped it for months on end and weathered rain, snow, and wind storms).

    I've been trying to find a good tent for bikepacking for months now, have you found anything more ideal? I was thinking just a bivvy and tarp (held up by the bike) route, but don't want to invest if it's a bad idea.
    Or have you realised the Topeak Bikamper is actually quite good?

    • @DevonCycleBoy
      @DevonCycleBoy  Před 7 lety

      I found the tent very good for my need, I've not tried a bivvy so can't comment on that. The only advantage I can see from a bivvy and tarp is versatility, ie stowing it where you want on the bike and also its probably cheaper!

      Dude - just get a Naturehike Cloud Up. Seriously - it's extremely light, almost identical to the Big Agnes, and you can get it for around 80EUR on Amazon. Everyone agrees - these are outstanding tents. I have one that has gone on many a long bike-tour with me, and it has not failed me in the slightest. Weighs around 1.5kg, is solidly waterproof, spacious as heck, packs down so small I get the tent, sleeping bag, mat and some other little bits into a 20L drybag which is strapped to my handlebars. Save your money and energy (with all the fuddling around taking of you tire, changing the handle bars, etc.). Get this: czcams.com/video/1Uwsj1ziptQ/video.html
