Sims always likes to bring up aliens, and this game also has that. If you use the radio and transmitter on crystal island, you will actually get abducted by aliens and it'll change your mood around. really neat little feature.

You're fully meant to play this game with all characters part of your team. This is why you shouldn't need to grind to much to get to a certain level because they will do it on their own time and you can use their skills like that

I remember getting Urbz on the Nintendo DS for Christmas one year and trying to play it.
I couldn’t figure out how to get a job, and I failed to successfully complete any of the ones I could find, so I watched as my little avatar starved in his shitty apartment after pissing in the corner because he couldn’t afford to pay basic utilities.
I don’t know why I wasn’t immediately radicalized against capitalism that very moment.

Urbz was sooo cool like genuinely it was so much fun, all the different street subcultures and getting their respect, traveling in the metro and meeting the black eyed peas like we're besties every so often (? however it did stress me out a lot because needs went down very fast on the PS2 version and making money was way too hard, my apartment was a small bed and a shower, I'd only eat outside lmao
I nearly screamed hearing you are planning to do Medieval next. Honestly my favorite Sims game of all time, including the main games. I'm obsessed with it. I revisit it usually at least once a year cuz I love it so muchhhh!!!!

I love medieval so much, I recently redownloaded it and went nuts playing through all the challenges and unlocking all the extra items, shout out to the only sims game where you can straight up murder another sim as a sim

Ah the nostalgia. My sister and I spent hours together on this game and we decided to make our whole family into each of the sims. Unfortunately this made things awkward as the sims started to romance one another turning our game into incestuous love island/ survivor.

There's something absolutely hilarious about that ending cutscene with Garfelia wearing a crown and leaf garments while everyone else is wearing the tattered cloth they arrived in. It's been a long time since I played Sims Castaway, but I remember the chimps constantly bringing goodies for my character while I dealt with the various survival challenges. I assume that's one of the perks of not ignoring charisma :P

This game on the DS was such a weird but unique game that completing it was a bit of a journey of discovery given the history of the franchise. I clicked on this video so damn quickly haha

I just bought My Sims Kingdom for DS and found that it's so much different than on the Wii!! Seems like the same thing with Castaway.

I'll be honest, out of my thousands of hours of The Sims over the years, the spin offs have always been my most played games. Bustin out, Urbz and Castaway were the ones I had the most fun with, they never left my PS2.
Especially Castaway. I loved creating stories in my head and playing them, I felt like I was in Lost or something.
As well as the unique gameplay, I loved the buildings. Having to gather the materials to make them was a lot of fun, that sense of survival.
This love for Castaway now translates into my love for games like The Forest, Conan Exiles or Valheim, even though they're nothing like the sims' focus.
I played Castaway all the time as a kid! Never got actually beat the game tho, I think I got stuck on the second island every time 😂
Sims castaway was a LOT of fun. Me and my siblings would always make our family. It was always a laugh in the snap shot photos at the beginning to see who got thrown off the boat first.
the sims iceberg is so weirdly interesting. id be really interested to see if you cover the soundtracks of the sims games as one big video- i know theyve got some weird weird celebrities on there.

I played the wii version when I was 13. My emo phase was heavily in swing, so I quit early on because the leaf skirts weren't emo fashionable enough smh.

My mom used to play this sims game when i was little and i would intently watch her do it. i never could remember what game it was. till you hinted this video in a previous sims video. the "foreboding" atmosphere was what prevented me from playing this game as a kid, I quit when I found a skeleton in the forest lol
I still play this on a monthly basis. I dont think ill ever discover every single recipe. Glad to see a fan covering it! Also played the Nokia version. The onslaught of Porgi fish will forever haunt me. Also as a fun fact, the PSP version has several exclusive features, like being able to dye your hair with more than 1 color.
As someone who has only played mainline Sims games with a couple of expansions, ages ago, and has a stack of a million games to play now, I am absolutely here for every installment of reviewing every Sims game.
I adore the sims 2 story games and the sims medieval. It’s so fun, I would love to see more of these games. I played castaway stories when it was on Mac until it got removed from the App Store
I played the DS version, i loved it, that physical is one of my favourites in my collection, but it always felt pretty cut down and like the experience was not as full. Im so excited for this series, the Sims Medieval is amazing and i feel there is so much to talk about there, in gameplay and lore!
I got so stuck on the DS version. I never knew what went wrong, but I just couldn't get past some of the parts and gave up. Maybe it's worth revisiting?

I have so many amazing memories from the DS version (playing into the night with friends, the excitment at arriving at the third and largest island, the horror when we realized earthquakes were a thing) and the Castway Stories for PC. This video is a welcome surprise.
Edit: Also, a future Sims Medieval video?! I love that idea, that's a game that goes to far with its humour that I've had to press pause to laugh at the absurdity of it. Only in Medieval could you have an NPC who's tragic backstory is that his parents got eaten by carnivorous chinchilas. Or kill someone with the objective of going Franknestien on them, only to have one of the heroes go ''Mhm, man that strangely looks like my brother. I haven't seen them in so long. What a coincidence''.

I rented Castaway Stories from a library as a kid and absolutely loved it. I wish there had been more Sims spinoffs like it for PC
I played so much of this on the Wii. I was so sad when my sims were rescued because it felt too easy (then again I wasn't the one climbing a volcano). I was pleased when it allowed me to go back to keep playing. I was so frustrated with space in this game. Trying to decide where to put down shelter was always a nightmare. And young me was always upset i couldn't get my sims to woohoo because of course that was a priority 😂
My sister and I would play this on the Wii. Every time there was an earthquake I would get really scared, run away from wherever I was, and stay away from it for a while. I didn't know it was random xD

my first sims game was the sims 2 on psp, it was kinda crazy and I hope you cover it. It’s a story on uncovering a weird alien invasion (kinda) but I loved it so much!! Mysims too!!!

I never finished the game, but I befriended all the castaways and all the chimps if I recall correctly!

I have so many memories of going over to my friend's house when I was a kid just to play their Wii version of Sims 2 Castaway. We'd each make 3 Sims and usually give them either the most outlandish names and appearances, or try to make them stunning versions of ourselves 💅We would take turns playing, passing the Wii and nunchuck back and forth for a few hours, until we'd eventually go outside and reenact our play session on the trampoline (speaking fluent Similish the whole time!) I didn't know anyone else played this game so it was so fun to see you talk about it!

I remember having a free trial of this game on my mobile phone, whenever I would attempt to play it my phone would get really hot and it would drain my battery quickly. lol
You know, now that I think about it, maybe the charisma skill is so your crew mates will actually be friendly towards you? Cuz I remember my crew mates were ALWAYS assholes to me, and it made me so upset lol 😂
i remembered always being able to be friends with my crewmates after awhile - and i think you're right that it must be the charisma skill! i would always build one of the buddies you can have your sim talk to, before they reunited with any crewmates, so they wouldn't be lonely when there were no chimps around. this probably gave me a charisma boost i'd need before talking to the crew. so that'd be my advice to anyone starting a new Castaway game!

The Sims Castaway on the ds is ironically what sparked my love of survival games as a kid. I would restart the game so many times since I didn't have access to any other survival games until I got Lost in Blue which since I was a kid I never managed to get past the tiger.
