    You're one of the few people willing to actually give Kickstarter Tcgs a legitimate stress test. Excellent video!

    well I defiantly enjoyed this deep dive, seeing how a game messes up it's own balance is pretty cool.
    In this instance though it's fairly telling how this game has messed up it's balance in a way that discourages it's core "evolving" mechanic in almost the exact same way that pokemon has for the last like 20 years.
    Step 1: Make a monster type that can be played instantly for no cost to give you something to start with each game.
    Step 2: Make a new kind of super powerful card that shares that same "no cost to play" basic type.
    Step 3: Watch as your game devolves entirely into spamming out the first form power cards because spending several turns evolving things will always be slower and worse than slapping down something with the same power level for free in 1 turn.
    In this instance they at least tried to counter balance the problem of a "first form" card having the power of a "third form" card by giving them a steep cost, but forgot that they had added a bunch of cards for spamming out "first form" cards for free because the balance of the game without the "super powerful first forms" kinda demands you always have access to the things you need to evolve from.
    The poorly written rules also make it fairly clear that they're probably brushing off player feedback about their rules with the idea that "any reasonable person would know what we meant." rather than how they should be thinking "How would a 'rules as written' rules-lawyer try to break the game using our wording?".

    I think the deep mechanic dive and card pool overview is great, and your videos are just generally hilarious. Good stuff man.

    Games with this evolution mechanics seem to always struggle with game speed before throwing everything to the wind and introducing big early game creatures that make the evolution cards pointless. The best game I've seen handle this is the newer Digimon CCG where evolving usually gives you a bonus based on the bottom text of the previous form, as well as many effects that trigger on evolution. Together, these things deeply incentivize evolution while still leaving room for instant drop biggies under certain circumstances or playstyles. One thing I dislike about the indie TCG scene is that almost everything is a soulless derivative of the big games. Oh, Pokemon and MTG had this thing? Guess we've got to have it here, too. I will say though, I love the artstyle and aesthetic, and as a designer myself I know even though the game may be a broken mess the designers put countless hours into it, so that itself deserves some praise even if the result falls flat.

    I really appreciate this kind of content.. not only covering a weird game I've never heard about, but explains the basics and immediately goes through the most disgusting thing the game allows. Lovely!

    Something important with tiny hand is that it recycles your entire combo. So if you have any frognados and elementals in hand/discard you just put em back with Recycle and make your opponent deal with it again

  • @ClintonMatos
    @ClintonMatos Před rokem +12

    It's hilarious that they copied the evolution mechanic from Pokémon, and then also copied one of the biggest mistakes the game ever made: introducing extremely strong basics which evolutions can't compete with.

      Hey thanks! I'd do more in-depth looks, but its kind of hard to decide which game to do it on. This game had a fair bit of uh...drama? So that might have been why this one worked.

    I love how defeat via running out of cards in a deck is usually just a rare occurrence in most TCG/LCGs, however here it’s the primary win condition (for your opponent to lose this way)

    • @CardGameCrypt

      Yeah, "lifedecking" was really popular in the 90s as a way to have games where you didn't need to keep track of a life total. It fell really out of favor after that though.

    It's so strange that this game has a "Forgotten Zone" supposedly for I assume "game balancing" reasons, y e t has a lot of cards that let you retrieve/ recycle cards specifically from the Forgotten Zone so you can use them again basically immediately
    Wild.

  • @TSDreamCreative
    @TSDreamCreative Před rokem +7

    Yeah, sort of what I expected. Pretty looking game with fun theme, but very poor, minimally tested gameplay. I'll never understand why people want to make games with such busted elements, especially ones that bypass some of the theme mechanics (like making evolving not worth it in this game). But, my assumption is a lot of these new TCGs are coming from first time designers, and/or many people who just wanted to make quick money off a pretty TCG without a strong game behind it.

    They saw Pokémon ex/VStar/VMax/etc. and Special Summoning from the Deck, and at no point did they think "Hm, maybe we shouldn't put them in our game because those mechanics are pretty unbalanced!"

      @@CardGameCrypt I was really interested in wager of troupes. It looked very unique and interesting. Tbh any of the tcgs in that video would be interesting besides the Naruto clone. Naruto clone looks cool but I've seen and played the original Naruto TCG, so it's not as intriguing as the others. Either way I really like the style of this video and your editing is awesome! In depth trying to break a game and go deeper into a new TCG in a entertaining way is very nice departure from people being serious about it like they are playing a regional or like if the game is the next big "investment" to make a million dollars. Anyways please make more videos 👍

    • @frank_calvert
      @frank_calvert Před 10 měsíci

      a lot of complication of yugioh comes from limitation. like that one card that can get another of itself from the deck. pretty sure yugioh spells generally disallow that.

    Wow, this game reproduces and exaggerates pretty much every problem the Pokémon TCG has. I hope they find solutions to round it out, but it's surprising considering how well documented Pokémon's problems are.
