Iâm assuming some of yâall have never lived in LA, Boston, or NYC to talk about traffic. If you do not enjoy the outdoors regardless of the weather, seattle is not for you. Embrace the rain, get boots, rain gear and go hiking in the moss forest.
Exactly. LA sucks. CA too.
born and raised in nyc, seattle wont be hard for me to handle.
He's right about traffic. Stop being so defensive.
@@Luvie1980 CA is a great place to live.
Iâve lived in LA, been to NYC plenty of times, and currently live near Seattle. Every place with the traffic sucks but I especially hate Seattle traffic. Not only do people suck at driving, but they simply donât care. They, unlike LA, acknowledge the fact that there is other cars, but they donât care. Theyâll drive through you if they can.
Been in Seattle for a little over a decade, and coming from FL...Seattle is paradise. Drivers aren't as crazy as Cali or FL, and Seattle isn't as big as NYC/LA and not in the middle of nowhere like Idaho/Alabama. No humidity, less pollen to affect allergies and a few "heat wave" days. No real natural disasters other than a few smoky hazy summer days from neighboring wildfires. Love the rain myth too, since it's currently October 2022 and there hasn't been a rainy day since "Juneuary". We've honestly had sunny days for over half the year lol. And all of Seattle isn't trashy. Just Ballard, Aurora Ave and downtown. The rest of Seattle proper is pretty clean, quiet, and picturesque.
The price points are true tho. A 1.2 mil Seattle house will cost 500K in Everett, 450K in Fed Way, 525K in Tacoma, 1.9mil in Bellevue. All over the place.
I prefer the aggressiveness. At least people GOT somewhere. đ
Thank you for sharing, Mister I Know 206.
As someone coming from Florida, what's your opinion on Seattle being a hard place to make friends/socialize. I'm somewhat introverted myself and i'd just say im picky about who i spend time with. (im early 30s)
Iâve lived in Seattle for 60 years and would choose to live nowhere else. Just stay away from downtown.
You did a great job of explaining & outlining the main downsides of living here. I was born & raised here and have seen a dramatic change in driving habits & traffic in just the past 10 years. In fact, my commute to work (when I'm not working at home) consists of only 24 miles, is about 1/3 back roads/rural roads & does not include any major highways. 9 years ago this commute only took 45 minutes, it's now a 75 - 90 minute drive. Add to that, the many folks who don't seem to be familiar with traffic laws or who drive very aggressively, plus road construction and the drive has pretty much become a nightmare. That said, we do live in one of the most beautiful places in the US and there is so much to enjoy outdoors here with all of our lakes, rivers, forests, beaches & mountains, it's difficult to imagine living anywhere else.
Thanks Chris Johnson, I found this informative.
WOW, I canât believe how honest you were on everything. I would say the only you kind of missed was donât expect to have a yard or parking at your house. Yard in suburbs and parking in Seattle. Everything else was spot on.
Born in Seattle. Raised and lived in the Seattle area my life ( 60 yrs ) until 2015 when I came to the sad conclusion that I couldn't afford to stay.
Thanks for the heads up friend đđœ
used to live in Edmonds, 15-20 mins outside of Seattle, as a child for about 2 years in the very early 90s. I still remember how amazing that place was and always wanted to move to the Seattle region again, so it saddens me to see all these videos about how down hill everything has gone. The homelessness looks beyond repair, I am from the east coast and live in a pretty rough town but I never see homeless. Seeing videos with tents all over the place is literally shocking to me. We just don't have the homeless problem in the northeast that the west coast has, Its legitimately shocking.... and this is coming from someone who lives in the biggest (and worst) city in CT. So that says a lot!
Iâm a native here and this is true. I never thought I would ever say this butâŠI canât wait to move out of here! Itâs not Seattle anymore. Seattle was sold a long time ago.
I like Seattle not from there originally from Chicago and grew up half my life in Atlanta currently living in Nevada i think seattle pretty dope
I got the HELL out of Seattle!!!
Conservative? đ
The wildfire smoke especially sucks when it's an extremely hot day and you can't even open your windows because the smoke is so bad and you don't have any air conditioning. Many people end up renting a hotel room just so they can have AC and be able to sleep properly at night. A couple years back it was so bad that all the hotels were booked by locals just trying not to die from heat stroke! đ„”
I moved to Seattle 5 years ago and he should have said that the people here just absolutely suck and being genuine humans to one another. Also, crime, public drug use and sex on the streets.
I agree. The people here really suck. They like to think and perpetuate that they are friendly and nice but they truly kind of stuck up and self absorbed don't like others. And being passive-aggressive is their favorite pastime.
This is a fair, balanced and level headed breakdown of Seattle. Good job đ
Thanks Joe!
Thank you for the informative and honest video.
Good video. I lived in 5 different states in US, 4 other countries before, i have never struggled to find a balance in life like here. The rain and making friends is hard even after 4 years. The nature around is beautiful and you will enjoy it. I will move out now for a more friendly and affordable place...Good luck
Have been living here almost 2 years and tired of clouds and raining. I forgot when I see sunny winter days here. People are nice but very cold and boring . Time to move on
9 states, two other countries here. Same.
@@Mr__Trueyep. Very fake, superficial and passive-aggressive.
I found that the people in South King County are a lot more down to earth and really keep it real. Itâs also more diverse here without all the pretentious bores.
I live here and i approve this message.
Accurate description. Also, cost of groceries and crime are both up. Gentrification/tech boom have impacted diversity in the city quite a bit. Half of Seattle still makes 50K or less a year and those people are getting clobbered.
Food is still cheaper here than most other places Iâve lived in the country.
Maybe if you got out of town and actually explored the country by living in various places, youâd gain a much better perspective about how the cost of living works.
Hoping the layoffs help a bitâŠ
I spent about 3 weeks in SEATAC and Bellvue WA in summer, 2012. The rain, â & cold-cooler climate can be rough. I'm not đŻ sure I could live in a metro area like Seattle King County 365, 24-7. Seattle WA is hip, trendy, fairly clean(2012). The nice đČ are a +. Cost of living seemed a tad steep. đČđČđČ. The supermarkets, đ, stores had fresh foods, great QC-flavor. Note; a few chains moved out in 2020, 2021 due to riots, crimes.
Left Seattle 12 years ago. Best move ever. Simply unaffordable and crime ridden --- could never plan a retirement there.
Did you move to Idaho or Montana?
Where you move to?
I live in Puyallup for 6 years now and the traffic was fine for the first 3 years moving here, now the traffic getting into Puyallup from Edgewood is bad. I work in Seattle and it takes me on hour and half to get to work. On a good day it will take me 45 minutes. I hate driving because of accidents, road rage and traffic now, so I take the bus, Sounders train and the light rail to get to my destination.
Have been her for 11 years, canât take the weather anymore, after COVID 19 and depending of outdoors to go out to breathe, was a horrific wreck for me, this summer bye bye .
Thanks for this video. It's all relative. I just moved to the burbs here from Southern California and LOVE Seattle. Compared to SoCal, it's scenic and serene. Far less crowded with tourists. Most people here are inclusive and self-expressive. So far I haven't seen the same superficiality and obsession with plastic surgery as in Cal. As a boomer, I appreciate how healthy and nature-conscious seniors are here. There is also a sophisticated vibe here that's missing from SoCal. As to the homelessness and traffic, that exists in all big cities.
Right on. Lived here for 22 years and can't wait to move out. It's literally a shit hole. When you move here make sure to get conceal weapon permit. Seriously.
Yeah buddy. Ive been here 40 years and 2019 was the first year I felt compelled to start packin'! Its a different city now.
Seriously? I was just there last weekend and it seemed fine (way better than SF at least). Maybe it's just certain neighborhoods?
@@johnhopkins6731 wayyy more noticeable to the communities that have lived here for decades.
How many times have you been mugged? Or threatened?
You can buy a house in Florida for 90k with 30 down and itâs 3 beds and 1.5 bathroom. YOU CANT FIND THAT HERE (born and raised) oh and no people who have a hard on for politics and think thatâs a good conversation starter
As an Eastside resident...this is a pretty good list! You left out the biggest reason not to move here though...the Seattle Freeze! If you aren't from here, didn't go to college here, have no family/friends here and don't work in "Tech" ...good luck making friends! Hands down the most unfriendly city....Can be socially suffocating!
Thanks Ken! I have gone back and forth on the Seattle freeze aspect. Iâve been in the Seattle area my whole life so I canât really relate, but Iâve had a lot of clients who have come here from out of state tell me they felt like it was very welcoming and didnât have any complaints about the âfreezeâ. I know everyone has a different experience though. Iâm curious if youâve got experienced that yourself?
Unfortunately yes and it's the main reason my wife and I are considering leaving (not the only reason).. people here just keep to themselves... don't really like to hang out...tough to make plans and people flake often...Lived in Boston, San Fran, Portland,OR, So Cal briefly, and Northern AZ and never experienced this... however...there are a LOT of positives to this area for sure!
Try the Las Vegas Freeze. You think it`s unfriendly there in Seattle ??

Drivers are 10X worse in Dallas. When I moved to Dallas I was rear ended in less than 3 months. Im pretty sure I see drunk drivers daily. Never got in an accident living my entire life in Seattle area. Everything else is true.
Texas really needs to change their signs to 'Drive like a F*cking A$$Hole the Texas way', just in my humble opinion of course.
I've noticed an increase in people who seem ignorant of traffic laws here in Seattle. Blatantly running red lights, illegal passing, using turn lanes to drive long distances, hanging out in the passing lane constantly, not to mention excessive speeding. It's no wonder there are constantly accidents.
@@ChrisJohnsonCJs-Kitchen Really, I didn't realize that Seattle had laws, Chop/Chaz zones, everyone for themselves......
I find drivers in San Fran to be much worse than Seattle! Same with Las Vegas and Phoenix!
You are not wrong about Dallas drivers according to my family members that moved there. Texas also has one of the highest percentage of uninsured drivers and higher cost car insurance.
I lived in Seattle for decades and just sold and left last summer. All this stuff is true, and has been for my adult life, and pertains to the general Seattle area, not just incorporated Seattle. What isn't mentioned is the out of control homelessness and skyrocketing property crime in incorporated Seattle, and worse crime than that is on the increase too. The situation is changing for the worse on a weekly basis it seems. Graffiti is covering everything in the business districts. There's more all the time. There are mentally ill everywhere. You have to watch your back when you're outside your house, and keep track of the homeless situation in your neighborhood.
Maybe visit incorporated Seattle before you decide to move into Seattle proper. Notice the difference between incorporated Seattle and the East Side (Bellevue and Kirkland and Redmond) and the suburban townships to the north.
You are describing the Bay Area. I've lived in San Jose CA, since I was 3 years old, I'm now 47 traffic in the last 7 years bad to worse, homelessness x10 in the last 3-5 years.
I live in LA that ainât nothin
South King County is the best if you donât want to deal with a bunch of pretentious people with sticks up their asses, which is the case in Seattle proper, the Bellevue area and the northern suburbs. Itâs also the most diverse area of the area in my experience.
@@Trix897 Well, I'm no expert on south King County, having never lived there, but I've found a huge difference in the sticks that are up people's asses just by moving to area north of Lake Washington.

when they say there was no air conditioning, I thought it was a joke until......
Itâs the #1 city in the country for % of dwellings without air conditioning.
No thanks on Seattle. You couldn't pay me enough to live there or deal with the traffic.
The bad drivers are not necessarily from Seattle.

That is right. The homeless don't drive
Most are in my experience. Yâall are WAAAAAY too timid. If you canât keep up with the pace of traffic, STAY HOME.
They def are because the drivers here are very passive-aggressive and rude and passive aggressiveness is Seattle's middle name. Y'all are the GOAT at being passive aggressive. I have literally been at a stoplight on a couple different occasions and literally the mere mili-second the light turned green I've been honked at because I didn't move immediately within that millisecond of it turning green đ€Šđ€Šđ€Š didn't even have a chance to let up off my break before Becky behind me had a f****** meltdown. And then when I look back in my rearview mirror to see this human she had the most mean mug, ugliest, irritated face simply because I followed traffic rules and I waited until it turned green to MOVE đđđđ.
That's how Y'ALL are. Y'all need f*cking therapy. Unhappy miserable souls.
Bad drivers? When I was in Seattle, every time I crossed the street at an intersection, the cars stopped. In Tennessee, people are offended when someone walks across the road and thereâs often no sidewalks and no pedestrian crossing lights/signage like in Seattle. I plan to move there soon!
If you stop at every intersection, go 10 miles under the speed limit then yes youâre a bad driver. Youâll fit in fine with the seattle crowd. Theyâre just as dumb as you are! Coming from a born and raised Seattlite! And I love how people who arenât from here have so much knowledge of seattle even though theyâve been here once/ a handful of times. Oh please do a favor for the world and shut up. Next visit Iâll take you on a walk to see the real seattle bud and youâll be singing a different tune in minutes
@Belltown Daisy noâŠno you wouldnât as someone who lived 20 minutes away from the birthplace of the kkk no you wouldnât đđ
At least in Memphis, people know how to freakinâ DRIVE. Here, people are WAY too âpolite.â
The point of driving is to get from point A to point B. Itâs the drivers that stop for every goddamn thing that make driving absolutely miserable for me.
@belltowndaisy4214I understand that. I loved living in Memphis, but with the lack of protections of AFAB peopleâs bodily autonomy and their push to keep eroding LGBTQ+ civil rights, I wonât go back until they change their ways.
Had no idea the cost of living was that high in Seattle. Thank you đđœ
I make 6 figures a year and canât afford a single family home. I had to settle for a condo.
The first and number one reason to avoid Seattle is "If You Don't Want To Live In Seattle Because It Will Be Your Home And You Love It More Than Anywhere You Have Ever Lived" Then don't move to Seattle and much up the place. Seattle will hate you for doing this and the ones who actually want to be in Seattle will not be able to afford to be there.

Seattle 3 years ago was Nice⊠Seattle Now! rough and very volatile
I only visited for about ten days a couple months ago, and I was expected a horror show. Having lived in LA in the past, I found the aggressive claims about Seattle to be nothing short of comical. I donât doubt that it used to be nicer and safer. But what I saw was standard issue for any major city Iâve ever lived in. LA makes Seattle look like a paradise. At least based on what I saw. My guess is most people either grew up in Seattle before it inherited all its current and to-be-expected big city problems, or many moved here from more humble areas and by comparison it does seem very jarring and terrible. But based on what I saw⊠pretty normal big city conditions.
Great idea!! AVOID SEATTLE
Yeah. I worked in Seattle and it took about an hour and 45 minutes to two hours to get to my apartment only 30 miles away. Traffic is a NIGHTMARE and people are flat out rude drivers. I love the weather. Born and raised here. But it's not rain like most people know it. It's more a drizzle most often. I call Washington weather bipolar at best.
The cost of housing is absolutely insane, the crime is rising as is homelessness, and the politics of this place (the fact that you can't get away from any of it) just get on my nerves. I love Washington and I will miss the ocean and water so much but, yeah...We're moving to Wyoming.

Iâm surprised you said allergies. If it rains often, doesnât that help?
The people there are super cold. Actually most folks from the Pacific Northwest are like that. It seems like they are hiding who they are on the inside.
Have lived in seattle for more than 6 years now. Most of them are true except traffic and drivers not being good is something I don't agree with

FYI, the regime in Seattle is doing its best to spread the homeless/drug love to the clean and orderly surrounding suburbs mentioned in the video, primarily through buying hotels in those communities (with little or no notice or coordination) and relocating said homeless, so the charming lifestyle created by the drug and alcohol users can be experienced more broadly. so you may want to avoid King County entirely. or the entire state.
This is sadly true... You might move to a suburb and the city will turn the local red lion hotel into "transitional housing" without input. Happened to my uncle in Renton.
What's the difference between northern Seattle and southern Seattle? I'f there is a difference
There are a number of differences. Generally speaking, home prices on the north side are a bit higher and schools more highly rated. There are exceptions of course as there are so many suburbs both north and south
Yes, it is much more expensive to live in north seattle than south: North of the ship canal bridge, you will be hard pressed to find a single family home under 500K, maybe with the exception of Lake City. In south seattle, more homes in the 400K range. Much whiter population in North Seattle and more black and brown people in South Seattle.
