My wife and I are planning to move this up coming year to the Seattle area. I'm thinking of targeting North Bend as it seems like a nice non busy but still central location. Both Google and Apple say its only a half hour out from Seattle, and 45 minutes from Everett and Tacoma. Do you have any experience with that area or right around it? We're looking to rent first probably a apt or townhouse for around $2000-$2400 while we save a bit more and take a few years looking for a final home in the area.

You must be looking at times without any traffic, because I could never get from North Bend to Everett in 45 minutes. I live in Woodinville (much closer to Everett), and during the day when people are on the roads it can easily take an hour for me to get to Everett. I can get from Woodinvilie to downtown Seattle in less than 30 minutes only very early or very late in the evening. Anywhere near rush hour it takes closer to an hour, and sometimes well over an hour during the peak times in the winter. North Bend is considered to be in the boonies, and you will be looking at a very long commute to anywhere. The sweet spot to be is in the middle of the east side (Bellevue, Redmond, Issaquah), but it is very expensive. North side tends to be a little nicer and more expensive, South side has more crime but has some ok places and is cheaper. If you are of moderate means, you should pick north or south based on where you are looking to work. I would stay out of the Seattle city limits.
