Four months ago I wrote a comment on this video stating that I had my eyes on the Level.2. At the time I had a Velotric Discover 1. Little did I know that just after making my comment I was going to go down a roller coaster of problems with Velotric. Basically the bike started failing and their customer service was so horrible (even under warranty they refused to help) that I sold the bike at a loss and pulled the trigger on the Aventon Level 2.
Within about 30 seconds on the Level 2 I completely understood why people prefer a torque sensor. It was an adjustment compared to my previous cadence sensor not only in the sensor itself, but riding position, but once I got it I became massively addicted. I started riding at the very end of April 2023 and stopped just recently in early July (I live in AZ and it's simply FAR too hot between July and like October) and in that time I put over 800 miles on my bike. I cannot believe how well made it is, how fun it is and how great it looks to boot.
I still kick myself that I didn't get an Aventon sooner, but better late than never I suppose. I cannot wait until the weather cools down again as my bike was (and will be again) my primary form of transportation for everything except picking up weekly groceries.

I’ve just bought a Level.2 here in Western Australia and I have to say that I’m very impressed by the bike. The build quality is superb and the torque sensor compared to my other bike, a momentum transcend, is just far superior. Anyway, love the bike and looking forward to riding it more.

I did a lot of research before picking up the Level 2. Nothing else I found from an established company provided these features and build quality *with a torque sensor* for $2k. This was an easy buy decision for me.

I highly recommend just getting a Kepler. It's on back order, but worth the wait. It has a cadence sensor instead of a torque and it's only $1,799. Worth the trade off for me. It also has a 1000w motor and a 52v battery. The rack is really sturdy (much bigger too) I put 70 pounds on it during a grocery trip. I also prefer fat tires over thinner ones. So if you like 26x4in fat tires it's a no brainer.

my wife's ride1up 700 has maybe 1s delay on the throttle control...it's worse than any throttle I've ever used (car/motorcycle). combined with just as slow cadence sensor, it's really making the ride way worse than it could/should be.
its nice to see torque sensor being added to hub motors, although in that case, it makes it dangerously close in price to a ride1up prodigy or probably some other affordable mid drives. also a ride1up LMT'D is cheaper with torque sensor + FREE additional battery right now!
hub ok for flatter areas and if you don't like shifting your bike. mid drive much better for climbs (must have for MTB trails) and also quick acceleration off the line, if you're ready to go shift often. Don't forget that derailleur/groupset quality matters much more on a mid drive

I'll keep my '06 Trek because I've kept it in fantastic shape but I have to write here that I will be giving this newer brand a serious look and a test ride at a local dealer. Trek is a bit conservative with not offering a Class 2 ebike and they also don't offer a lot of colors on their bikes besides Trek black. This Aventon Level.2 is affordable to me being that I'm retired and can't easily spend much over $2,000 for a bike.

If it was a $pecialized would you say it was pricey? I wonder if the issue is that we expect DTC e-bike only brands to be cheap and fighting for the profits. Compare this to the Como 3.0 and Specialized gives you a middrive and name brand components. The Level.2 has a bigger battery and 28mph unlock which is a massive feature assuming it delivers. The Como starts at $3250.
I trust a bike that I have to pay over $1750 more than I do a $1000 unit that I know was a corner cutting design exercise. When we're afraid to value such a feature rich bike, is it a sign that we're not investing in transportation, but racing to the bottom for crap that we'll be happy to replace in two years. I think this bike looks great. Maybe Aventon would gain more credibility if they used Microshift and Tectro, or offered two or three spec options with better name brand components at the top levels. To me, name brand components promise years of service, and a guarantee of interchangeability. I'd be scared that my investment in an e-bike locks me into irreplaceable parts if the company fades away or just moves on in their design and abandons old bespoke components.
E-bike frames could or should be a lifetime investment that promises decades of responsible use, replaceable parts, and even support for future components that fit standardized fittings. That's sustainable transportation we can all get behind. Is that the feeling you get with an Aventon?

PAS 2 is set for 14 mph and PAS 3 is set for 20 MPH. Does the torque sensor work off of how much resistance you have while peddling? And has nothing to do with speed?

    • @hfjeff2736
      @hfjeff2736 Před rokem +1

Exactly. You have the cadence sensor version and described it perfectly. The new version is torque sensor which applies PAS based on pedal pressure, not fixed speed like the cadence sensor. Find a Trek bike shop and test ride a Townie Go! 7d or Verve +3. They both have torque sensors and you will immediately feel the difference. When an ebike is advertised and categorized by the manufacturer as a "commuter" ebike, does that mean it's primarily (maybe solely?) designed for urban commuting? I'm looking hard at this Aventon LEVEL.2 ebike which has that categorization. However, I'm thinking that in my case only about 30% of my riding would be urban. I do live in an urban area in Washington state with about 350,000 people in the metropolitan area, however, I'm thinking most of my riding will be recreational, on designated bike trails (hard surface or crushed rock) with distances between 30-60 miles per ride. Would I be foolish in this context to consider this ebike?

My torque-sensing Ride1Up LMT'D is jealous of the Level 2's lights. Aventon makes a good-looking bicycle. The LMT'D bests the Level 2 on a few items-- it comes with WTB or Schwalbe tires, an air shock fork, and a 1000W max motor. They seem much more in direct competition with each other now that the Level 2 has a torque sensor.

I'd have to get it shipped overseas, cuz I'm not in the US or Canada. My main reason for buying is speed. The wheels did not require any truing/adjustments. The frame had some small scratches, but nothing major.I did replace the seat though - the seat it came with was very uncomfortable. The tires need to be re-inflated every 4-5 days, but this appears to be quite common for the narrow 700x25 tires.Overall, in my opinion, this bike looks and rides like a much more expensive bike.

I have searched for a repair shop that will fix my old battery and there is none. Even those that are repair experts say sorry and will not take on the financial responsibility for repairing battery packs. And if you do find one look out the cost to ship these puppies is high. Maybe sometime in the future, a battery pack repair shop will be in every city till then collecting dust.

Front deqsloghts turning with you is literally 100% of bikes and is wrong. It'd a relic of motorcycles being one piece in the front but the front headlight SHOULDN'T turn with you. I put my main headlight on the stem sleeve so it always points forward which makes drivers feel much more comfortable. The wandering front headlight is one of the things they makes drivers HATE bikes. The wandering light from just naturally swerving forces drivers to keep track of where you're going which is impossible because any time they glance back your headlight is this single point of light that is angled in a direction where if you kept going that way you'd swerve across the entire hi way. Having a fixed front headlight AND a front steering light gives your bike a uniform look and let's everyone know where you are actually going even when you swerve from 11 to 2 to get around a pot hole or change lanes.. Motorists hate bikes because they seem so haphazard and unpredictable. This is CAUSED by the dumb relic of having the headlight turn with your steering.
When you are avoiding an obstacle 6oi are still going forward and want to see forward. You also want to quickly see where you're steering but ultimately you still intent to go forward and using your light suddenly shine away from the pot hole is obviously something people put up with. It's not how lights are supposed to work.
With a fixed front headlight and a steering light when you're riding as a car you look uniform with them and it's clear that you are going forward and not suddenly gonna sweep across 3 lanes which a swerve of just a few degrees maintained would have you do. The diagonal light and nothing else being seen by a motorist behind them might as well be a light that just turns on and off randomly and whispers to each driver "boo! I can be anywhere"
