Please subscribe if this video helped you, and add me / agrippamaxentius and / agrippamaxentiu here. Keep in mind that artillery is best kept GROUPED or in a line, together with other artillery preferably on high ground. This will win you many games.

    I don't understand this game.
    My troops always have low morale, they rout after taking less than 10% losses while the enemy always holds the line even with units with only 200/300 survivors out of over a thousand.
    My troops always lose more soldiers than the enemy, even if they are at 70% cover in a perfect position against an enemy lower than them in an open field. Even with numerical superiority I take massive losses.
    Charging ALWAYS backfires on me. I charged a 2000+ man unit into a 100 man cannon group, they did not get to shoot their cannons once, but they inflicted over 500 casualties and routed my unit, while losing about 30 men.
    My units very often disobey orders and start moving on their own, even if they're not routing.

      One of the things you should consider is not amass too many brigades in hope of not receiving too high casualties.

    every battle i fought the casualties are pretty even on both sides. Kinda hard for me since i have been playing total war for too long (deploying is kinda hard to master in this game). Seems quite realistic for the out come of the war, blood bath for nothing.

      the game is incredibly punishing, deceptively easy to play, and yet terrifying when you start to realize the carnage which actually occured

      @user-ep6gv2xj9q Před 7 lety

      Yeah, it is especially sad, when you see the brigade under command getting slaughtered and flee the battle. Then you use the general to rally them and through the remainings back to the battlefield. After consecutive plays, you realize some brigade/cannon groups performs much better than others (i believe that is according to the historical performance/results), that you would rather use other inferior units as human-shield (sometimes) to protect those valuable units. Compare to total war series, this looks more like a "real" battles.

    You know you would think grouping artillery would be obvious but I end up forgetting that and spread the arty out for no good reason other than habit :P

    • @AgrippaMaxentius

      Sam T Spreading is ok as long as you can keep the artillery firing in the same general area, but don't spread your line too far. Towards the end of the video you can see how the confederates set up their artillery, this also works.

    UG is not a simple game to play and does have some issues. First the concept of VP is unrealistic. I can get my troops slaughtered but because I have one lone artillery unit sitting at a VP I win. or if Union vedets occupy Herr Ridge they win. Not at all reasonable.. The game really needs to take into consideration your starting position and your ending position as far as determining who wins.
    Second, it appears that the enemy units always move faster than yours. I've watched this constantly and it doesn't seem to vary. They do move faster than you can.
    Third you are only one person, your eyes and command can't be everywhere at once controlling a battle.

      Actually the main thing democracy causes is a lot of college students who learn to complain about democracy and who rant about war without ever seeing a battle.
