I saw the Walkman in 2002 supporting a Scottish band idlewild (worth a listen) at Manchester academy (UK) when I was 15. One on my favourite songs of all time.
I wonder how they’d react to American English?
One of my favourite songs also. I actually considered suggesting this myself. Great taste Wonderboy! As already mentioned, the drummer does a fantastic job in this. This has made my day seeing it on this channel.
"This has made my day seeing it on this channel." Funny, but this comment just made MY day. - Greg
1 of my favourite singles ever
Really liked the "wall of sound" feeling. I REALLY like it, but I think the song ended at just the right moment. Always leave them wanting more! Your reaction and analysis are right on. Again, shout out to wonderboy.
On another note, as this channel keeps growing, which it will be faster and faster, the time between when I (or anyone for that matter) submits a KO-fi request and the time we hear it will grow longer and longer. This is NOT a complaint :-) - far from it! I could literally go broke suggesting songs to you both, so I need to make the ones I do request count. And I also REALLY like the things you guys pick on your own!! It’s kind of odd - am I trying to impress you, or someone, or am I seeking validation for the things I enjoy? The answer is probably both LOL. At any rate I will rack my brain to find things which may challenge you, and anyone else who cares to listen. Thanks for letting your audience get involved.

Great reaction to an under-appreciated band. I was fortunate enough to see these guys, The White Rabbits, and Spoon on tour. It was an amazing concert, and while you should certainly continue to explore The Walkmen, I would HIGHLY suggest you give the latter two bands on that tour a listen as well. "Percussion Gun," and "The Plot" by The White Rabbits are terrific tunes, and honestly Spoon are legends and have an entire discography worth exploring. Thanks for the thorough review and honest opinions, gents. Cheers.
Thanks, Andrew!
2 in 1 day, you’re spoiling me lads! Glad you liked it, it’s one of my favourite records of the 21st century. You’re right, it definitely has a British sound to it.
Loving the channel, I’ll be dropping by for another coffee soon 👍🏻
The drummer from The Walkman is now in Muzz, he’s phenomenal
Drummers got 4 arms
Seeing him drumming live really drove that point home 😂
🙏💚
Love this song.. Great request and reaction👍
Most of the members of the band are from the DC metro region. Right before they went on "hiatus," I saw them perform in between 2 warehouses at Union Station in Washington, DC. All of their families were there. It was a really cool show.
I loved this track from one of the few US bands I was listening to at the time. Great lyrics.
Believe or not, this is the only review of this song that exists on CZcams. Just thank you to make it!
Poca gente habla de The Walkmen, creo que ha sido una de mis bandas favoritas mientras cursaba la Universidad, buena reseña.
Classic track, love this. Often comes up on my feed because of related stuff I like. Intense vocal line, and the whole vibe reminds me a little of the Strokes, real driving rhythm
Thanks for another good new tune. It’s not a style of singing I’m mad on, but it seems to work for this track.
My favorite aspect of this band is the singers voice. I’m hit and miss with The Walkman . The songs I like I absolutely love the songs I don’t bore me. This song is most definitely a hit.
This song got a good amount of airplay on alternative radio when it came out. Try In The New Year, Juveniles or Angela Surf City.
It's weird -- I personally love Hamilton Leithauser (the lead singer's) yelpy/scratchy voice, but I've played songs he sings for people who didn't care for it. (One thing with this song is that there's some distortion on the vocals, which is probably something both Arctic Monkeys and The Walkmen took from The Strokes.)
I find the Walkmen song "We Can't Be Beat" very nice (czcams.com/video/Xwo8F6H-AxE/video.html) and the Hamilton + Rostam (a side project) song "1000 Times" (czcams.com/video/KzJQEsP5RPA/video.html).
epic east coast band!,out oasis'd,oasis for retro sound of retro brit pop(but NY bands have always had that sound!(tv on the radio)...tune!
song next gen based on the brit pop sound
tv on the radio(wolf like me)letterman live...same time
Great reaction! You should try
The Enemy - We’ll Live And Die In These Towns (Isle of Wight Festival 2008)
Thanks for connecting. And appreciate your love for this band and song, but helpful tip: dropping in multiple threads will not get us any closer to reacting. May actually have the opposite effect. Just saying. That said, real interesting song and unique voice by the lead singer. So, we'll keep in mind. For guaranteed reaction, you may want to check out our ko-fi.com/intothemusic site. Thanks, Greg
oasis!..lol
This song is a pain in the arse to play.
Reminds me of The strokes more than the Arctic Monkeys.
Another one of my favorite, favorite bands! With Arctic Monkeys, The Walkmen, Fleet Foxes, Arcade Fire, and MGMT, I feel like you're going through my old iTunes playlists! You just need some Grizzly Bear, The National, Local Natives, and Dr Dog to make it complete.
I sort of understand the Arctic Monkeys comparison but I don't really like it. Leithauser's voice reminds me more of a mix between Rod Stewart and Bono - sheerly regarding the physical qualities of his voice.
And I'm pretty sure they're from d.c.
I just noticed this is the only reason to the Walkmen on CZcams and that's a damn travesty!
Loved this song for a while, Maybe try Reptilia by The Strokes
@Jon Reed - I hear the similarity to "Reptilia". If songs were people they'd be kissing cousins!
As soon as I heard the voice I instantly thought of the strokes too.
I love this band but despise this song. Just a one-note cacophony, IMO. Try the whole album "You & Me." It's absolutely fantastic. "In the New Year" "On the Water" and "If Only It Were True" are highlights but the who thing is great.
