Simi Valley / Redemption on Circumcision Drop (Grudge, Dirty Bird & Side Action) Nov 17, 2020

We headed up to Simi Valley to hit some trails, Weather was perfect and there wasnt too much traffic since Mike and I carpooled. We started off with Grudge, we decided to take "Circumcision route" I havent hit this since I had that big crash that jacked up my shoulder a few months ago. I was stoked to finally hit it again. We then hit Dirty Bird and had good flow until Mike snapped his chain. The plan was to end on G Spot but since Mike had no chain we decided to hit Side Action last. It was only my 2nd time hitting this trail and it was funner than I remembered. It was a fun ride in Simi as always and I was stoked there was no crashes.

People show me the trails and I grab all the grade and info online from strava, trail forks etc.

Was Mike's chainring bent? How did the chain snap twice???

It snapped the first time from too much torque, he didnt have the right gear, its pretty common with 12 speed. The 2nd time is because we popped a link out and snapped it back together which was only a temporary fix

@@TommyHuynh I think he didn't push the pin in evenly (too far in or not enough). With 11 & 12 speed chains the side links are so thin the pins have to have EXACTLY the same amount sticking past the links (about .003" or so).

I know how Mike feels, I broke my derailleur at the top of Grudge & had to go chain less down it 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Yup I blew up 3 derailleurs but the worse was on mt Wilson which is 13 miles, we snapped the chain back on as a fix gear just so I can climb
