  • Rocking rendition of Jumpin' Jive from from Tokyo 1986 during the Big World tour. The band features Tom Teeley on guitar, Gary Burke on drums and Rick Ford on bass. The guitar driven arrangement has an almost rockabilly twist.

Was hanging out at a cafe in Puerto Vallarta and they played this whole album, just made you get up and dance.

Smokiiiiin’!! :)) You’d think he created the song so much he makes it his own. I loved the album at the time, and the n hundredth execution on stage manages to be even fuller of peps than the album’s! Cab Calloway’s original was sharp, but Joe’s is sharper! No « cabaret complacency » here, but drive, drive, drive! Up tempo, on the beat. The Jive/Rockabilly « mash » is a natural, the guitar player is just as sharp as Joe and carries admirably the whole musical drive, single-handedly filling in for Calloway’s big band! :D Joe’s delivery is amazingly precise, his phrasings both mesmerizing and an invitation to dance with them... effing joy-generating professional act, thanks for everything, Joe! :))

Because , You Gotta Look Sharp ! Sorry, couldn't resist but yes, the original J.J. album got me into big band music and a few year later, Setzer started the B.S.O. where he also combined big band with rockabilly . At the time, I as a drummer just started playing weddings and listening to all this definitely helped a rock and roll guy get the feel for swing . Sadly these days it's all D.J.'s or bands playing to click tracks so they sound JUST like the original record.

Every post on YT should begin with the words, "Was hanging out at a cafe in Puerto Vallarta..." I love this album.

"Hep-Hep" is/was very beat generation 'round here in so. cal. More of a fusion of Big Band and early Rock and Roll.
