Old Mate/ Trev, may be that turning a small fitting to suit your break line tubing to suit holes and silver solder it to the tube. Cheers from John, EC Australia.

Absolutely Guys, that was the first thing I went for. I even have various fittings I could have used.
After I shot this vid I realized i could not remove the main Hydraulic cylinder due to not having a suitable/capable tool for the job.
This would have made re-drilling the holes to fit a slightly larger fitting very awkward.
The existing holes were a perfect size for an M6 Tap which I could easily get done with the cylinder in place.
I sourced some 1/4 tubing & threaded it to M6, Done. Its all in the next vid.

Hey Trev - great vid. Had to laugh about the comment for making a tool to remove the top seal. Had to do that for pulling apart a long ram cylinder. Keep up the good work.

I found your channel a couple of days ago and have been binge watching he Aussie goodness 👍😎👍. I've never made this conversion myself either, but I believe you're on the right track from what I've seen years ago. I did know the first step of getting the big nut off was going to be a booger. I applaud your hammer notch solution - very clever.
If you don't mind I have a quick question; did you make the under-mount bench vise? Love the aluminum jaws. Very functional. If not DIY, who makes it? Thank you...... Joel
Hi Joel, the vise is a quick release woodworking vise. its an old Dawn, Aussie brand, this one is from the 60's I reckon. Its been in my possession for the last 30 or so.
I Rebuilt it a couple of years ago & made the Aluminium Jaws for it then. they're 12mm Aluminium Flat Plate.
Way better suited than the usual H/wood or Ply for what I use it for.
The quick release Mechanism is such a good thing. Makes it a really good, quick & fairly gentle, work holding device.
Plenty of them around second hand, you can even buy new Covid versions, but they are all pretty crap.

I have been struggling with my 20 T air over hydraulic like this one -- not because I need to invert it, but because my air pump does NOTHING over the past year,. That is, my hand pump works fine, but the air side is a boat anchor! YOU, Sir have finally provided a clue as to what may be going on beginning around 26:00. Evidently, something on the air side supply or return of the cylinder is clogged. Believe me, I have checked everything else - and nobody on the web or YT has a breakdown. Confident this is the problem, I will check it out.

EDIT Jan 23 '22....Still thankful just the same, but no clogs or other apparent problems found with the air pump. Still does not even move. Oh, well.
Subscription definitely earned, I came for the lathe and mill work, not as keen on the car bits but fully support your work and toils and am not one to bitch and moan I'm not interested. This is a sweet project that brought your channel back my attention. Nice to see some bottle jack hackery outside of the usual non English speaking scrap wizards out there, whom I whole heartedly appreciate and enjoy.

Hi Trevor, great video. I have been wanting to get one of those air over hydraulic jacks for a while, so seeing you tear down yours was most informative. Could you possibly also tear down the inside of the air cylinder to show the workings?

I was thinking the return and suction lines should be extended to avoid air bubbles and check valves on the inlets to keep fluid in the tubes. It would be annoying to have to purge air ever time you want to use it.

Gidday Trevor, how they hanging? You have me intrigued as I too am hav'n a crack at build'n a press'n machine thingy. A couple of ideas which I was going to incorporate into my press which may or may not be of interest to you. 1. Another way to get around the upside down issue is to put a fitting in place of the rubber fill/level plug and run a tube up to an external header tank which can hold enough fluid when the ram is at full extension hence not allowing any air to enter the system. Any air trapped during initial installation can be bleed via the release valve. 2. I had my top nut machined and a proper seal installed as I was unsure how long the original O-Ring would last before leaking as it now has the job of holding back all the oil contained in the reservoir (as you know, the Chinese usually don't over engineer anything). 3. By hanging the plate that mounts the jack with 4 small bearings so that they run on the top of the lower portion of the C section effectively opens up the usable area of the press). Once any pressure is applied it will lift the plate up to make contact with the underside of the C section, friction alone will stop it moving, however you could use some sort of small locking bolt to stop it moving around when setting up a press job. G'day Rodney, great stuff. Yes the external reservoir would definitely work. Thought about it at the time & decided to go this way just for compactness, it lives in a really tight space in the Shed & would have been a pain for me. I have actually done very similar to your bearing idea with a fabricated carrier to slide the jack just minus the bearings. I think the carrier is in the next episode or the one after. I'm up to filming episode 5 here, just need to do all of the editing. Great minds think alike hey.

One thought: returning the fluid into the air space may aerate the fluid, bubbles that cause compression problems. Depends a lot on the fluid characteristics I guess.

I have watched many inverted rebuilds on the 20 ton jack. You are the only one I could find that plugs the top return hole with jb weld and adds 2 tubes to the suction line. Is that because it's an air over hydraulic jack?
G'day Mate, no, without the tubes the suction holes are now in an air space above the fluid. its purely an upside down thing. Cheers.

Common sense AND logic. Bloody hell, is this some kind of double episode?
The swarf is the chinese version of planned obsolescence.
Stupid thought, but what the hell - why not use the jack upright (without the mods) suspended from its top so it pushes down through the base? I'm sure you can make press fittings to suit the bottom plate.
