Unbelievable just how many offs there were here (the no tyre change rule obviously being a big factor in that). Having great big Tesco car parks as run-off areas was a new fangled thing at the time but if not for them there'd have been about 5 cars finish :-)

F2005 was looking good in Michael Schumacher's hands in qualification and the first part of the race but then he had to retire, Barrichello struggled with a new car all weekend long. In 2005 Ferrari wasn't fighting for the title for the first time since 1996 but even then in 2005 Michael was doing everything he could to score as more points as possible. Second terrible weekend for B.A.R. in a row, they lost both cars again. Alike them magic Alonso was looking perfect and took a second win in a row, he was on the way to the first title. That was a good sofa Sunday, happy Easter Zeddie!

I firmly believe that Michelin were given the heads up about this rule early in 2004 & they developed a tyre during that season specifically for it. Also explains Michelin runners lack of competitiveness during 04.
An issue they would have in 2006 when the suspension was too good on tires that it couldn’t fire them up properly for one lap or sometimes over a stint
Im sure this was the hottest ever race, which was why they moved it to night time, sad that its a truly awful and boring race to watch now. I remember still being excited to see every single race 19 years ago. How has modern F1 lost the excitement and racing, and turned into a sad parody of itself?
What a shame. Looks like it could have possibly been a tussle for the ages between Alonso and Schumacher, which is exactly what we all wanted to see. Good job De La Rosa and his antics were there for the race, because not a lot else happened, apart from drivers managing their cars.... 🤷
A great era for the sport but lets be honest. The racing isnt that good. People complain about the races now (which are boring) but seeing these highlights doesnt prove that racing was any better back then. Midfield battles with alonso running on his own. However, the sound and the cars make it a much more exciting watch. Reliability was the only factor affecting races it seems. Overtaking almost impossible. Bahrain GPs of the last 6 years have been way more exciting. Point is, racing has always had its ups and downs. Lets stop trying so hard to get the cars closer and just enjoy F1 as it is.

That's 100% down to the Bridgestone tyres. When they were allowed to change the tyres afdingen in 2006, Schumacher was back fighting for the title.

This was indeed the hottest race on record. Almost 43°c in terms of air temperature. Looking back now, I'm amazed that this race even went ahead!

Not sure if Schumacher would have been able to fight the entire grand prix. The Bridgestone tyres weren't lasting races especially in hot conditions

There are even more boring now and with fake overtaking with DRS.
Too many cars going out of track throughout the season due to that Stupid 2005 pit stop rule.
Alonso did to Michael and Trulli the same as to Russell at the first corner and no biggie. Today we have kindergarden championship.
