Pretty sneaky edit if you watch the full video you can see that the Brit started before him and In the end the guy from the USA dropped the ball just 2 seconds before reaching his opponents time.
Should be a longer bar so the athletes can’t rest the hands against the thighs. That’s why the BACK gave out before the grip, it’s not a grip exercise when the hands are on your thighs locking them.
Then why did the athletes with the best grips get the best times?
I think that massively overcomplicates things. And resting the bar on your thigh is a test of what? How fat your thighs are? The event was great as is.
Yes, resting your hands against your legs helps... but it is still most definitely a grip event. He said his back gave out before his grip because his grip is just that good, not because it wasn't a grip event.
Have you ever lifted heavy weight? Above bar grips are extremely difficult to keep, and your grip strength definitely can make it easier or harder.
I clicked on it because I thought they would hold it with their balls but I guess the event then would have been called; balls to the walls

A solid steel ball 1m diameter would weigh 4110kg, not 260kg, so this is 93.6% air inside. It wouldn't be very good as a wrecking ball!
