Totally agree, it sounds like sylosis but completely fresh for them at the same time. The last album was their weakest IMHO (though I still enjoyed it) so I’m super excited for this one!
I don’t understand how this sounds anything like old sylosis. I like it, but it’s a completely different band than edge of the earth or monolith.
@@hass9510 The way the riffs and solos are written and structured are classic Josh Middleton, he’s an amazing song writer and he definitely has a recognisable writing signature. The new songs are a few steps down in guitar tuning which gives it a darker and heavier feel, but as soon as I heard them it was clearly sylosis. They sound different and familiar at the same time. I’m super excited for the new album!
@@millenwagon Don't get me wrong, I'm super hyped. Edge of the Earth is probably my favorite album of all time, Monolith is up there, and I loved Cycle of Suffering. However, these new songs are just so simple, structured and way less creative than their old stuff. As I said I love it, but I think it doesn't sound like their old albums at all (if you don't count just heavy riffs and fast solos as sounding the same)
This is exactly how a band should evolve. They have managed to explore new routes while still killing it, like only Sylosis knows how to. Josh’s voice has developed so well.

I've been listening to these guys for quite a few years now and this album really stands out to me compared to the previous ones.
Yeah, have to agree, while exploring new sounds and new styles, they're still creating heavy as fuck music to exemplary standards. This is why Sylosis will remain my number 1 band, they always play to perfect standard regardless of style, masters of their craft.

I'm glad to hear Josh singing more cleans; I've always liked his voice! I think they're taking some pretty ballsy risks with this album, but it still sounds like Sylosis. This song was frickin' sick!

@latanezimbardo7129 Very good point. Ac/Dc is great, But they never change, You hear one album, you hear them all. It starts to sound repetitive and boring. Evidently the masses don't like change. Look at Iron Maiden or Yngwie Malmsteen. No changes in thier styles. Maybe only vocalist. Def Leppard is a band I can think of that never sounds the same on any album. That get shit for it, But they show alot of versatility and creativeness. Really same for Metallica.
Do you ever listen to Edge To The Earth? I mean, that album is from Sylosis and Josh used clean vocal im that one.
@@BetaIX9t's true that Josh has used cleans on every album he's done vocals on, but they've rarely been at the forefront and the songs featuring clean vocals were rarely (if ever) performed live. Also, Cycle of Suffering only had one song with clean vocals, which made a lot people think Josh was abandoning that style. He doesn't even do the clean parts of Heavy Is the Crown live. This song and Deadwood show that he's become way more confident in his cleans, thus he'll use them more often.
Sylosis are easily my favourite metal band, no one else can give the same vibe that I crave. Dark, heavy, groovy energy. Hits every time man. Love this, love the evolution. You’re a genius Josh.
Honestly the latest three songs and Hollow is the Crown are such an incredible new direction. Perfect blend of older Sylosis with some more modern metal texture.

This is top notch. I will forever treasure Monolith and Edge of the Earth era Sylosis, but this new sound is really getting good too.
An album in the style of Edge of the Earth is coming some time in the future, Josh said so on an Instagram Q&A today. Also, he said that the closing track on the new album, A Godless Throne, has EotE vibes, and he played a couple of seconds from the solo section and it sure sounds like that.
Yes I absolutely love EotE and it's probably my fave album but these singles so far have been so damn good I'm feeling like this album, whilst a little different might be up there with it

my god this is such a banger the main riff and most of the riffs have this really tasty pantera-esqe groove to them I love it I can't wait for the album to release !
I think this chrous (1:27) is the best representation of Josh's statement in a recent interview where his producer wanted him to create more memorable moments which were lacking in CoS. Personally I prefer the faster and thrashier sound of EotE and Monolith but this chorus has huge potential to become an iconic moment in metal.
Josh said in yesterday's Q&A on Instagram that he's working on an album in the style of EotE. He didn't say when the album would be released, but it will be some time in the future. Also, he said that A Godless Throne from the new album has EotE vibes, and he wasn't lying - he actually previewed a tiny snippet of the solo off that track and you could hear a melodic solo being played with that rich layering of ambient guitars in the background.

I'm new to Sylosis, big fan of Josh, and my god his lows at 1:50 are something he needs to be incorporating WAY more often.
He's got a lot of lower register moments on the Album "Monolith". A lot more thrash/death metal influence in the sound on that album too. I'd recommend it if you're new to Sylosis, It's a cracker of an album.
It took me a couple listens but now these song are firmly lodged in my head! I love the throwback 80 thrash, standard tuning thing... so refereshing. I can see Josh's time in Architects helped in terms of songwriting chops. I think going out on his own was a solid move!
This song in C#, but feels totally like the classic thrashy metal, agreed, my friend!
Yes! This is the new Sylosis WE NEEDED! Love that josh is singing more in this one and that chorus/chorus riff hits like a truck in the catchiest way!

Listened to the track afew times now and everytime i listen i like it abit more, definetly seems like more of a grower track than the immediacy of deadwood and poison for the lost. Good grooves, strong chorus and nice tasteful leadwork, it will be interesting to hear how this works in the context of the rest of the album.

First let me say, this is the best metal band on the planet. They do NO wrong. I like all the new songs a lot....but I see a lotta comments about masterpiece this and that. Guys, are we just gonna pretend that Cycle of Suffering didnt come out in the middle of a global pandemic and the thing is a front to back BANGER!? Isnt THAT record their masterpiece?? The culmination of everything theyve ever done? For my money, its gonna be difficult to duplicate that album. Having said that, theyre my favorite band - Josh is a genius - Ali is a drum machine - and Ill be a first day buyer of ASOTTC!

I'm a fan. Can't say I was into "poison for the lost" or "deadwood," but this? This is killer. The main riff is a bit Deathy and I dig that, because that's a prevailing reason I've continued to enjoy Sylosis for so long. They are true to the formula. Well done, gentlemen.
