Very helpful, thanks. I was struggling to work out the fitting, even with the factory instructions, but your video saved the day - now to try them 👍
Love these ovals, definatly smooths ya pedal stroke out nicely. Ive found my average cadence is a bit higher now aswell.....all tested unscientifically ofcourse. Im running the subcompact-with a wolftoothDM and 36t out back, being a fatty in the hilly part of town im golden.
Thanks man! I didn’t see the recess at first when looking at the big ring but after watching your video now I see it! Appreciate it.
🙂👊🏻
Me too
Nice fork
I converted my audax bike to a 1x using an absolute black narrow wide chain ring....good kit and good video!
What frame do you have and what’s the exact set up? Cranks etc?
Done the same with my Merida CX 300 running 42t narrow wide chainring on 105 5800 cranks.
Great useful video. Made fitting the oval rings simple. Had to take out a couple of links. Thanks. Not to try them out!
That you tube algorithm must have hit hard!! That sleeve has seen better days !!! Haha😀
Wear it until it falls off and wash things when they stink 😁
I’m super impressed with your lights on your bike. What are they?
I use various lights...Cateye Volt 100 and 300...also Fenix torch lights check them out in the 18650 versions 🙂👍🏻
Hi, what method have you used to determine the chain length for the oval chainrings? Do you remember if the length of the chain changed when compared to that of the previous compact setup? thanks for the video!
Good question and very good point ! 🙂,I left it the same and after at least two years of use on my Giant TCR it functions faultlessly 👌🏻I ride both conventional and oval and like both also the chain lengths on other bikes are the same 112 links IIRC...I’ll have a check 🙂
@@pedallinraw Thanks for the reply! I've just noticed the oval setup is also compact. I'm thinking about going from a compact to a sub-compact (46/30) oval setup and was considering the cheapest and easier option for my current 105/Ultegra setup. Probably the chain needs to be shortened by a couple of links when switching to a sub-compact. Do you know approximately how many km you can get out of those chainrings (providing the drivetrain is regularly maintained)? A grx 600 setup, even with the needed new front derailleur would be cheaper than the absolute black oval chainring. But also: why replacing a functioning crankset and front derailleur? Maybe better spending more and wasting less...
Useful video. Can you tell me which bolts/bolt set you are using to adjust the chainring? Do you also need separate loose nuts?
Hi,when you order the rings you can order chainring bolt kit to go with it 🙂👍🏻
@@pedallinraw aha okay, thanks👍🏻
They look nice! Interested to know what you think
Done a few rides now and so far so very good! Climbing on long ascents is very noticeable after a while, seem to take the effort off the knees which is good but still able to put down the power it’s something you’ll have to try but you’ll love them we both do 🙂👍🏻
How have you liked the performance of the rings so far?
Worth the investment for sure 🙂it’ll transform you’re riding 👍🏻
do you know if the original bolts works?
Only if you use the original inner ring otherwise you’ll need the bolts they can supply 🙂👍🏻
Does this work with a r7000 105?
Looking at buying a 46/30 for long steep climbs.
Hi 👋 go on the absolute black site and it’ll tell you exactly what you need ! It lists all the group sets so just choose yours if it’s available in compact or sub compact 🙂👍🏻
Looks good, but no point in using a torque calibrated instrument only to tighten it further with a wrench after
Only pinched them up another Nm...so stems or bolts are 6-7Nm the wrench goes up to 5Nm 😁
I have a question. Is it technically possible to just change the big chain ring and let the inner one be the original shimano chain ring?
I think it could be possible, you’d need to offer it up and see if there were spacing or bolts issues 👌🏻don’t think it’s anything that could not be gotten over with some thought 🙂👍🏻
Yes but only if your combination matches.
👍👍👍👍👍
they look totally awesome PRaw - think they might look rather nice on the pavement - thanks for your vid :-)
Treat yourself 🙂👍🏻
Is your crank arm 5800?
Yes 🙂👍🏻
You don't have to remove the cranks when installing those. My goodness that was too much work. You only need to remove bolts on the chainrings that's what I did.
It’s really not that hard or much work to remove the cranks…I’ve done it beside a road many a time 👌🏻
10:21 is that your free hub making all that sexual noise lol or jocky wheels? Are they standard or have you gone for the ceramic? How are you finding the ovals? Any good
Yes! 😁...I have currently KCNC jockey wheels with ceramic bearings from eBay ...ovals were the best move ever if you purchase some you’ll be best pleased 🙂👍🏻
@@pedallinraw do the jockey wheels make much difference?
Not really they just look flashy tbh! But they will last longer than standard Shimano ones imo 🙂

Bro you dont have a freaking camera stand?!
I do but sometimes the TCR looks so good at a certain angle .... 🤷♂️😉
I personally would never support AB after the way they tried to rip off cyclists with the bogus OSPW.
I’m not aware of that, what did they do?
@@pedallinraw I would link the video but it obviously got removed. Unfortunate we can't tell the truth about consumer products. It is the same thing that CZcams did by removing the Dislikes counter. No way to gage truthfully whether a product is bad or not anymore. Anyway the OSPW was being sold for $700 and was the equivalent of a child's toy you wouldn't pay more than $20 for. There was a lot of outrage by cyclists but now that it has been removed it looks like it is business as usual for AB.
They look nice! Interested to know what you think
I think they are a lot of money but then again quality costs and after using the 50/34 for a couple or so years I’m now using sub compact on another bike...recommend both and combined with a 42 cassette 🙂👌🏻
