really was blown away by how much is in this package. easily one of the most varied and great feeling shooters of recent memory
Excellent review.Will be picking this up on steam when it arrives. It also seems that the cotton guardian force Saturn tribute is coming to steam and , according to city connection, they have managed to improve the lag and will be patching the switch version at the same time.Sounds hopefully like good news for all cotton fans!

Jesus, I got this as a Christmas trip to GameStop and on the ride home was thinking "Man I'd love to find an Umihara Kawase game for Switch," just thinking other Japanese titles starting in the 16-bit era.
Watching this review as I eat and decide whether to play this or Cotton Reboot first, my jaw dropped seeing Umihara in the cast. Holy hell. lmfao
Reboot! was my introduction to the series and I played a ton of both it & Rock N' Roll in 2021. Hopefully there's more to come. The scoring systems in these games may not be the deepest or most refined, but I find them very intuitive and engaging. And if Success is reading this, I would love to see a new Psyvariar as well....
I was thinking the same thing while playing the Psyvariar stage. Would love to see a new entry and judging by this, they've got the ability to revive old series in a respectful but refreshing way, so I'd have a lot of faith in them doing a good job.

Never been a huge fan of Cotton even though I am especially partial to shooters however have to admit I’m considering picking this up. Also congratulations on a thoroughly excellent review.
Success went all out with Cotton in 2021 and their finale with Rock 'n' Roll was a banger!
Scoring is simple but handled very well with the character variety. Ria was definitely made for Extra Hard difficutly!
Yeah, I feel like maybe I hadn't played enough of the extra hard difficulty when I made this review. It's actually worthy of a bit more discussion as it makes things really different to play.

What I really liked about Cotton 2 was the seal and combo system. It's a little bit sad to see, that they completely dropped the command inputs and went more into the bullet hell direction.
I tried Cotton for the first time this year thanks to the rereleases (100% and Panorama) so now I'm looking forward to this new game.
I was on the fence about getting into Cotton. As a novice shmup player, I really enjoyed Cotton Reboot with the Sharp X68K version being my first 1cc! I can’t wait to get Cotton Fantasy. I love the graphics and looks like good ol Cotton fun, my favorite cute em up
Great review as always! Glad it's coming to the west (hopefully in physical form that's not just a limited run). Big fan of reboot, so this does appeal to me.

Got my copy last night (bent a bit unfortunately) but I gotta say I love it. The soundtrack was a highlight didn’t expect it to be that amazing. This game kinda feels like a Darius burst type of game. Like how there’s many characters with completely different mechanics and scoring is easy to understand but hard to master. I really like the game, glad I got the collectors edition because again my god that soundtrack
Nice! This looks promising! I've been developing some interest in the series lately, but haven't tried any game yet. Do the jewels behave like twinbee's bells? Because I didn't like that at all :/
Kind of. You can shoot them to change colour, but usually, instead of pinging away from you like in TwinBee, they ping up in the air so you can catch them.

Hard to say the absolute #1, but it's definitely between this and Cotton Reboot. Both are excellent. This has the variety of the different characters, Reboot has the benefit of both the original Cotton itself and the heavily reworked Reboot version as wel as a separate time attack mode.
Personally, I'd say Reboot still maybe just edges things, but you can't go wrong with either of them.
Spent a fortune on Japanese imports this yr, so I'll hold out for the the Fantasy version.

It has a physical Asian release with English on the cart, unless you mean an English specific cart, in which Iimited run games is releasing a physical as well

Not really sure, to be honest. I think you have to order their own special edition.

yeah there's a few members from Fil in Cafe and Treasure, tho tracking down which ones is kind of a crap shoot because of how inconsistent developer credits are to find

I always go for the Japanese physicals if available. Amazon Japan's shipping isn't any worse than most of the limited companies, the site's usable in English and the games ship on release date then usually arrive in under a week.
