Shmups On Switch

Registrace 6. 04. 2019
Reviews of shmups on Nintendo Switch and, very occasionally, other platforms too. Now and then, features some other shmup related content - best of lists, ports I'd like to see etc. Suggestions for videos will be gladly considered.
Reviews come from the perspective of what I consider to be your average shmup fan: definitely not a super player, but not someone who totally sucks either. My personal preferences are for verts and bullet hells, but that doesn't mean I can't or don't enjoy shmups outside of that.
One thing I can promise you is every game reviewed on this channel has been played extensively. The review scores might trend on the high side since if I think something looks bad, I won't accept a review copy. This is because out of the following options:
1 Don't review it
2 Dedicate a lot of time to playing it
3 Do a half-assed review based on an hour of playtime
I don't want to do 2 and 3 is unfair to both you and the devs.
Hope you enjoy the channel and happy shmupping!

This looks wicked, I wasn’t aware of it. Thanks for the vid gonna try to track down a physical
Ngdev just doesn’t get enough credit, this looks phenomenal and I haven’t even tried it it, but will be picking it up digitally for sure. I’d love a physical but looks to be impossible to find atm. I own Razion physically and that’s it, gunlord digitally as well
Miss your reviews!
"It's shit. Buy it." Lol no
Im curious bout this as ive heard good things, but I hate not being able to see my hitbox and having to guess. I see its visible in the plane select screen, what good is that? Give it to me in the game or make it an option to turn on.
Looks really nice, will grab it as soon as a sale shows up
Excellent review! I totally agree with your assessment. Absolutely a blast to play (and a bit punishing upon death to a degree). It's been a while, and I do look forward to more reviews from you. Keep up the great work!
I love this game!
this and deathsmiles compilation look so excellent in handheld mode.
after the updates it feels very responsive.
Solid game
I'll purchase this when it's $15 or less. We played the Demo, not worth $38.
I imported this from Japan as it was cheap and had English and when I fired it up and found out it was a twin stick I though oh noooo I hate twin stick shooters... but then I just could not stop playing! ;)
you keep saying "buzz" bullets and i have no idea what you mean
Is there a way too play fullscreen
No, it's a vertical shooter, not a horizontal shooter. You can change the background tho, there are plenty of different options.
I’ve only played this off Saturn emulation on my pc and it doesn’t emulate very well, awesome game though and think I will grab it. Great vid, I feel for you though brother, some heads on here are just cut throat sheesh, give this dude a break
No TATE mode = No Buy
My 3 year old nephew loves this game on the Arcade 1up.
It looks pretty good.
So....does the patch fix the excessive slow speed or not? Ive read a lot about how it "should" fix it, but have yet to read anyone provide any definitive or any comment at all as to the before/after effect?
The deleted this version off steam and uploaded a blocky 8 bit retro game, do not buy this game.
Just finished a run, this was a nice video to learn more about the game.
Are you coming back?
Where are you?
Game is awesome i really enjoyed it
Please tell me that you are still making videos.....
US yet?
My own preference is strongly weighted old school, rather than danmaku. I also feel a strong aversion to the main mechanic. Ikaruga's not for me. Rayforce very much is. Other folks enjoying Ikaruga has no effect on me, so I say go for it!
The game also needed a manual which explains some stuff, like how the upgrades get buyed. I'm also disapointed that the videos from the end of Normal Diff don't appear in the collectibles. Maybe they will with Veteran completion, but c'mon!
Too bad these Raiden games didn't get any arrange modes, it'd give the titles a bit on longevity. It may be sacrilege but a version where you can move as fast as enemy bullets would make the game more fun for me. Great music though.
A straight-up masterpiece. It's funny to me that most shm ups on Switch are just arcade ports. Every time I googled "nswitch shmups", I would roll my eyes as most lists of recomendations are just arcade games that were ported. I try to stay away from ports and rereleased. I like "original" games on current consoles. This game is fantastic!!
You've answered every question I could have, thanks!
Fantastic review 👍🏾
I'm looking to buy a shmup on the switch to take away with me on holiday this weekend. I'm worried about difficulty though as I'm sure these kinds of games are hard as nails. Would this game be suitable for a beginner to the genre? Cheers
Don't know about this one, bullet hells are usually brutal. Two of my favs though which are comparitively on the easier more doable side of the genre are Ecschatos and Andre Dunos 2. The latter goes on sale frequently for 5 bucks or even less though, so. Might wanna wait on that one I've heard Jamestown is very accessible as well, quite well received although Ive yet to Olay it myself For sure would look into the above three though
@@jackburton2680 Thanks for the recommendations! I have had Ando Dunos in my wishlist for a couple of weeks now and I'm waiting for that sale price to drop. I hadn't heard of the other ones you mentioned though. They are in the wishlist now too. Cheers! 👍🏽🙂
I think it’s arguably the greatest game ever made. I think it’s a true work of art, I am in absolute awe of its gameplay design.
What happened to this guy? Had a cool channel going
Yeah no Doj review Is unsettling. I loved this guy's reviews
I've always wanted to play this game, but I never will, because it's just too eye-bleedingly bright. It's like there is a white bloom exploding out of everything.
Thanks - just got this. You cleared up some confusing things for me.
I hate how power up and chain bonus and other notifications appear on the center of the screen. They already did point accumulation properly by having points you accumulate update in real time on the top left of the screen. Why not cram all notifications there instead of obscuring the player's visibility?
For whatever reason I can't see this game in the store in Canada. If I search google, it shows in the American store, but not here! Very odd.
Is there tate mode support?
Hey man you ever think of coming back love your reviews
Do you know why he stopped?
@@bakihanma644 no idea
@@pokepe12 😔
is there a unlimited live or continues cheat for this game??. i have it on saturn and there there was a cheat. i finished it on saturn ''be it unfair''. can i do the same in the switch version XD.
Here's another take. Maybe the ease of the game without the chaining mechanic is what makes it good to those less-experienced players, because they've never experienced the fun of a shmup, because they've never been good at them.
Dude!!!"ALL YOUR BASE BELONG TO US"!!! Classic,I haven't heard that One in Yearrrrrssss..
Off topic but you made me research about how many countries drive on the left side of the road and how many drive on the right side of the road. Ending up learning about the history behind it and how in ancient times they designed roads that way as the majority of people are right handed. This meant that when riding horseback along a path or a road, their right hand was free to draw their sword just in case they encountered any trouble along the way.
I bought the game. It's so simple to get through most stages. You can simply hold down the fire and you will pass through most of the stage(s) you don't even have to move ...just stay at the bottom in the middle and keep the fire pressed.
What mode & difficulty did you play on?
@@guitaroach Hard
Your channel rules so much. I've been stuck in bed and needing shmups. Your channel is exactly the resource I needed in this scenario.
Can’t find this on playasia. What gives?!
I 1cc'ed the game in mild difficulty yesterday after 3 days obsessed with it (I can only dream of 1ccing the intense difficulty one day) but I was so happy with it. This game is dope af! Thank you for your work @boghogSTG I LOVE: The shmup tutorial The 3 loves max system The variety of 2nd weapons The 'inversion' of bombing and super The music (stage 5 is my fave) The cohesive pink red color scheme and the bullets visibility TLDR: This game is dope af. Must buy on the Switch. I'm only waiting for the leaderboards.
