Today I want to breakdown Tai Lung’s fate at the end of Kung Fu Panda 4! The snow leopard, who broke out of Chorh Gom Prison, took down the Furious Five, and threatened the life of Master Shifu, was brought back by The Chameleon! I heard they cut out an emotional scene between shifu and tai lung because of the higher ups medling, this movie could have actually been good it just needs a directors cut to redeem it.

Tai lung is the only KP villain worth redeeming
3:56 actually, his apparent "redemption rejection" was just him taking his anger out on Po after learning that he spent his entire life fighting for nothing. (As he ironically had the power of the Dragon Scroll within him the whole time) To be fair, he was the closest thing he could take his anger out on.
Out of all Kung Fu Panda villains, Tai Lung is the only one who is worthy of a redemption.

His spirit particles did, he probably just spawned somewhere else in the spirit realm.

Energy cannot be destroyed or created just changed
I honestly don't think they'll do anything with Tai Lung, considering they sent him back to the Spirit Realm. What I think this movie should've been is a Po and Tai Lung story. You could still have the Chameleon as someone who pits Tai Lung and Po against each other, but betrays Tai Lung at the beginning, leading to the two being forced to work together to stop her. Along that journey, Po could've taught Tai Lung that he was so focused on an achievement behind his reach that he wasn't focusing on the achievements he already reached. What Kung Fu Panda 4, I think, should've been was a movie about accepting a new path, then a path others or yourself expect. That could've really went with Po's architecture, basically being pushed to retire as the Dragon warrior, when instead by the end, he would stick with it, and maybe a newly reformed Tai Lung could be trained to become the Spiritual Leader of the valley since his destiny was not to become the Dragon Warrior. That is what I think this movie should've been for both Po and Tai Lung.
Yessss! Tai Lung should've been Po's companion in this story. As you say they're forced to team up to stop the Chameleon, and at first they butt heads a lot and Tai constantly taunts Po, but later on they grow closer (maybe bond over the fact they were both adopted) and by the end they respect one another and even become friends.
@HimekawaHimeko Exactly. We could've even seen Tai Lung reconcile with Shifu through trial and error. Is it me, or are movie companies just going with the first script written down these days? Because what we got feels like the writers just wrote one script and the executives were like, "OK, do that." Granted it's an enjoyable movie, but im just saying there were obvious things they could've done to make it better.

Not sure I highly agree with you as every chosen Dragon warrior must find a new successor to take his or her place. However, it’s possible that Po could coach Tai Lung in becoming his new successor, thus finally fulfilling his wish. Unfortunately, he chose Zhen the fox instead, so that’s a story to be explored later on and who knows if Tai Lung will ever return in future installments, or if this movie will be the last time we see him? Good question.
Apparently he deserves better and should learn the values of what it means to be a true hero, even repaying his debts for all the damage he caused to the Valley of Peace before, and proper advice from Oogway and Shifu is just what he needed when he was younger. I’m still voting for him to achieve his own self driven destiny.
I’d say he fully redeemed himself when he took the chameleon with him into the spirit realm

On your point about Tai Lung returning and being the same, in an article of KFP4 the producers and Ian McShane state that Tai Lung actually had been meditating in The Spirit Realm for years, and he came up with a final conclusion after years of meditation: Oogway was wrong. Po was never meant to be The Dragon Warrior and he was a mistake.
It seems like Tai Lung could have learned something but his rage got over his head and led his years of trying to find an answer to waste.

Honestly, I’m pretty mixed on how Tai Lung was handled in Kung Fu Panda 4.
On one hand, I’m glad they actually made him a character and gave him character development and growth. Tai Lung bowing in respect to Po, the actual Dragon Warrior shows that he has given up his evil intentions and accepted the fact that he was never meant to be the Dragon Warrior. And all of the scenes with him are great. Say what you guys want about Kung Fu Panda 4, but at least Tai Lung wasn’t just here for nostalgia bait.
On the other hand, he was barely in the movie at all. He definitely needed more screen time to help flesh out his redemption so that it doesn’t just come out of nowhere. He should’ve had at least 10 minutes of screen time total. Also, I really wished he had at least one interaction with Shifu, but oh well, every movie is gonna have at least one missed opportunity.
I enjoyed Kung Fu Panda 4 and thought it was a solid movie overall. And while Tai Lung thankfully wasn’t character assassinated, they could’ve definitely done a bit more with him.

If only the 4th movie could've done better. In it since it is supposed to be about change, maybe Tai Lung (and probably the other 2 main antagonists) could learn to change, accept their past actions, and redeem themselves while they spend their time in the spirit realm. Something that I wished and figured that the 4th movie could've done better.
Anyways well done on doing this video on Tai Lung. I think if the 4th movie manage to have a better plot, then Tai Lung would definitely redeem himself and make a good name for himself.

I believe that Tai Lung is only just on the first steps of being redeemed. The thing that was holding him back before was his stubbornness and pride. He must have been training in the Spirit Realm to get stronger, to be the Dragon Warrior in his eyes, but it didn't work on Kai. The one flaw in his fight with The Chameleon was that he underestimated her like he did with Po. I like to think that after seeing Po, the person who bested him, still helped him and the other villains considering their past, Tai Lung finally sees that he needs to let go of the past.
Tailung and po being forced to team up would have been cool. I sort of imagined the chameleon stealing everyone kung fu skills that included po. Choosing the successor would be part of the story. While po and tai lung had to double team the chameleon along with the new dragon warrior.
As for tai lung not acknowledging po in my opinion that was because he lost to the chameleon. In his mind the dragon warrior should be undefeatable. Po loosing is po failing to live up to being the dragon warrior. The dragon warrior is someone tai lung deeply respects. That position of kung fu powers is in an unattainable pedestal to tai lung. Not living up to oooway choice. And loosing is po disappointing tai lung expectations of who the dragon warrior should be.
Even when the chameleon summoned tai lung . Tai lung dismisses her doubting her ability to defeat the dragon warrior.

Great video Isaac, apparently there was actually a scene of tai lung and shifu reuniting and shifu was crying after tai lung hugged him and tai lung was aswell after he left but the director changed it and wanted to focus more on the chameleon which is very annoying since we all wanted to see that scene, even the co director Stephanie Ma Stine wanted it, it should have been her as the director, she even wanted the movie to be Kung Fu panda 2 level, I really hope they show that deleted scene. Also when the chameleon summoned tai lung even though he refused to teach Kung Fu he still tried to go back to the spirit realm until she closed the portal it seemed like he wasn't interested in revenge anymore it was even mentioned that he had been meditating in the spirit realm.

SPOILERS (Just in case someone finds this comment who HASN'T seen the Movie)
i wish Tai Lung stayed around, went back to the Valley of Peace to make Peace with his adoptive Father, perhaps became an additional Hero, perhaps someone who goes on a Journey around the Planet, helping others along the way, instead of being sent back to the Spirit Realm......such a missed opportunity......that Snow Leopard is one of my fav KFP Characters.....perhaps my Fav period
Me too that is exactly what I wished for, it would have been awesome to see a “villain” go on the right path and be redeemed this way honestly
Another thing to note is we really don’t know how long tai lung was enslaved by Kai. Say he didn’t have much time in the spirit to really reflect like he should have because he was quickly defeated by Kai it would make since that he hadn’t changed
I also want to add he knew oogways staff he said “what are you doing with oogways staff” in the first movie oogway didn’t have that staff meaning he got it when he was in the spirit realm. I believe oogway found tai lung as soon as he entered the spirit realm and spent time together. Perhaps oogway watched tai king grow up and tried to tell shefu like he did in the first movie to change what he was doing and how he was doing it and shefu was to prideful to listen so now oogway has a chance to try his way given shefu wasn’t in the middle of it this time.
Tai lung had changed, his interaction with the Chameleon was how to interacted with enemies, it’s not hard to see she didn’t want to be his friend given the armed lizards pointing spears at him. He was mad because he knows how the staff works (or not) and Po in his mind gave the staff to her so she can do what she did to tai lung so he was angry at po for being stupid and oogway for allowing it to happen.

I would pray that Kung Fu Panda 4 received a Director's Cut. An edited version that followed the original vision of the co-director would be incredible. I'd buy it on DVD and Blu-Ray. Tai Lung is definitely the only villain that would make sense to be redeemed. His coming around to respect Po was a "worthy opponent" and true kung fu master. I really wanted to see a reunion between him and Shifu and better interactions with Po. It also would have been cool if he confronted Kai for turning him into a jade emblem. It would have been funny and a nice treat for fans who pay attention. So much was missed that I wish we had gotten.

Im just really wondering is he like dead? Was his body teleported to the spirit realm is he able to live in the living world if he was brought back? Tai Lung’s first chance for redemption was when shifu apologized to him. He shook it off and had been too far gone.
Tai Lung does have a chance to meet Oogway again in the spirit realm and eventually Shifu once his time comes

I personally think he was redeemed. Just not in the way people were expecting. Like think about it: Tai Ling was still angry and jealous of Po for having what Tai Lung wanted: being the DW. Which is why he was like “Oogway was wrong about you”. But after seeing Po actually fighting well and freeing him and everyone else, he realized that he was wrong about Po and realizes that being the mortal realm, trying to chase a dream that has long passed. Like many people say that him bowing to Po is “out of character” (even though Lord Shen and Kai are RIGHT THERE!), but I strongly disagree. I think it was the completion of his character arc and story. Who went from someone who was angry to finally finding peace with who he is. I still think it would’ve been nice if they had that original Shifu and Tai Lung saying goodbye cuz it would’ve been more emotional, but I still really loved it when Tai Lung finally called Po, the Dragon Warrior.
Also, he kinda gets the last laugh at the chameleon since he forces her to go there. So there’s that as well😏
I still wish Tai Lung had been validated as a student and eventually fulfills his dream someday that he was long denied of by Oogway the turtle. Perhaps he just needed counseling and advice when he was younger if Master Oogway sensed his ambitions were driven by pride and darkness. Then he could set his journey on a better path. Apparently that time has long passed now, but it’s never too late.
Moral of the story, never let your fears of a potentially dangerous student lead to your decision to reject them. You help guide them instead and Oogway instead chose to leave him isolated which increased his rage. Maybe Shifu could have helped him if Oogway refused to. Plus, Tai Lung already has the skills.
I still believe Tai Lung is destined for greatness and should indeed become the next Dragon Warrior, someday, after he repays all his debts for the damage he caused to the valley and learns what it means to be the Dragon Warrior.

16 years in the spirit, realm has passed Meaning that he would have enough time to get a redemption arc. After general Kai turned him into a Jade amulet. What I think should have happened is if he remained in the Mortal world. And then he can get some practice on meditation. But if that wouldn't work, then he Should go back to the spirit realm. And stay there until Shifu. Passes on to the spirit realm. So then they will.
Have plenty of time to practice meditation. And enter peace. And then when he's ready, then he should be brought back to the mortal world. Where he can be come the next dragon Warrior.
Kung Fu Panda 4 was a good movie it just needed more of Tai Lung. Trust me Dreamworks will give Tai Lung the redemption he deserves. It’s only a matter of time.

Dreamworks definitely missed the mark with Kung Fu Panda 4, and the sad reality is I don’t believe we will ever get to see Tai Lung truly redeem himself. After the backlash and criticisms from the film we got, I don’t believe people would be optimistic about seeing the former villains or even the furious five in a future installment. Also because I don’t think we will get a fifth movie in the franchise. While I would love to see Tai Lung truly redeem himself, I just don’t see that ever happening.

They appear at the end of the movie.
It's explained they were on their own individual Kung Fu missions split up, but they have returned now and will have a larger role in Kung Fu Panda 5.
Also one line from Angelina Jolie would cost ahem..

They're in their own personal missions... although, technically, it's because they didn't have the budget to pay the voice actors. Then again, I don't see where they would fit in the movie aside from being canon fodder for the Chameleon, so I kinda preferred it this way, personally.
If they're gonna redeem Tai Lung, it should be in some extended content, not a full film, but maybe a comic series. Don't think a film could support a dead guy seeking redemption.
I don’t think he’s redeemed either. I think it’s partially due to being of the spirit realm now that his path walks differently, once you’ve shed your mortal skin. You’ll find such elements in religions, like Hinduism.

So which is true? Did Tai Lung always want to become the dragon warrior, or did he just want to please his master and do anything in his favor to make his adopted father proud of him as a student gaining his respect and approval.
