    Nice video Tommy. Should be noted switching between ev and hybrid mode (bottom button) by default it's in the hybrid mode but favors ev meaning it will always use ev unless you hammer the throttle. And you don't have to manage that mode.
    The top button is if you want to charge the battery using the engine.
    Rav 4 Prime has a similar system but gets into the 40s mile range

      Name the better choices...and 75k seems steep but we are living in the age of aggressive inflation so it's not like lexus isn't setting a fair price for the value of the product they put out...anything else tht competes with this at a lower price is because they are doing just tht trying to compete and steal sales.. but toyota nor lexus need to do tht... they kno the product they have and will remain consistent....just like any of the germans...thing is the germans won't last as long.

      That is why I QUIT all the traditional car companies and went 100% Tesla. I pay exactly what I thought I am going to pay- also it took only 20 minutes at the Tesla store to purchase my 24 Model Y Performance (95% of the process was completed on the app). I paid 42,890 out the door for it, and had my FSD suite transferred to it! You cannot even get a RAV4 Prime for that much.

  • @readtherealanthonyfaucibyr6444

    So the battery holds an equivalent of 1 gallon of gas for this car. If you used the full battery 5 days a week and gas was $4 a gallon, you would save a gross of $80 per month, minus the electricity cost to charge during that month, so a net savings of maybe $40 per month depending on your electricity rates. Regular hybrids make the most financial sense.

    $76k? Plus 10% tax and license, no thank you. Compared to my 2019 Ford Fusion Energi PHEV, close but no cigar. I paid $30k out the door, I can go 38 miles real world electric only, and still have 600 miles on the hybrid/gas engine.
    The window sticker showed 84 mpge and 35 mpg on the Lexus. My Ford gets 103 mpge and 43 mpg in hybrid/gas mode.
    Ok. No AWD. Yes my Ford has a small trunk. But for a buyer to pay $84k out the door, seems like a tough sale. Even if I add the cost of my 2017 A3 eTron, PHEV and my Energi together, I’m not up to the mid 70’s yet. A new long range M3 Tesla is $54k. Look at that instead.

      All PHEVs are financially nonsensical compared to standard hybrids. If you use the full battery 5 days a week, you'll net a savings between $30 and $50 per month. Even less if the standard hybrid equivalent gets better MPG than the plug-in.

    PHEVs only make sense when the cost is under 40k and you drive 20 miles a day and can only own one car. If you actually drive far and want to save money a regular hybrid just makes more sense. If you are going to spend 60k or more just get an EV, skip the cvt and noisy motor and gain efficiency+power.

    • @spcneary
      @spcneary Před měsícem +2

      @@LafemmebearMusic I have owned every configuration, a PHEV is more problematic than a regular hybrid. It also is going to be heavier, and requires you to install a level 2 at your house. A standard hybrid is cheaper to buy, gets better fuel economy with the engine running, and they tend to have larger fuel tanks for long trips. A PHEV is the worst of both worlds for many people, their use case is someone who drives less than the EV range most days, and occasionally uses it for longer trips. When my daily commute was 30 miles a PHEV was an awesome choice, driving it 150 miles a day I found that I was using 2 separate drivetrains to achieve worse fuel economy than our hybrid did, and the hybrid cost way less. All that said everything you like about the EV side of a PHEV a regular EV does better, and all the things you like about the ICE side of a PHEV a hybrid does better, a PHEV has a very narrow use case where it makes sense.

    • @ALMX5DP

      The point is most people do drive less than 40 miles before returning home , when in 2 hours your recharged . I only use fuel on long trips which are infrequent. A full EV requires me to stop for a significant chunk of time on a long trip. PHEV is a great option if you mostly do short trips from home.

If 70k is a price you are willing to pay you could get an awesome EV for that money, in that price range you get something that does 0-60 in less than 5 seconds and charges to 80% in less than 25 minutes. When you can recover 150-200 miles of range in the time it takes for a bathroom break pumping gas is only marginally more convent/faster.
