Christmas In a Day is a beautifully moving document of who we were at Christmas 2012. Directed by Kevin Macdonald and produced by Scott Free Productions and Ridley Scott Associates, the film presents one of the few moments in the calendar where the whole nation steps back from ordinary life. Made possible by Sainsbury's, the film was an experiment to reveal how Britain really celebrates Christmas, inspired by Life In A Day / lifeinaday

Never get rid of this video, I watch it every year and it makes me feel so damn festive.
me too!!
Us too. It is tradition!
@@fm-w6069 Same!
Me too, would love it if they could do a revisited of the people that featured
Came back here just to feel the festiveness
Just me who watches this every year?
I watch this every month even though it is not Christmas! 😀
im watching in november
Watching in September!!
I've watched this every year since it came out, I'm waiting for the right time to watch it again this year :)
Nope, me too. Just about to watch it to kick off Christmas 2017!
I watch this every year, please never remove this!
Ok whose here on 2022… I’m back again!! It’s my tradition ❤
Cried my eyes out seeing the kid's reactions when they realised that their Dad was was home from Afghanistan. What a great film that has gotten me right into the Christmas spirit!
Yes
Gets me every time.
My Dad passed away earlier this year so this will be our first Christmas without him. We feature in the film having a fun sing song over the Christmas dinner table. Great memories I'll treasure and glad they were part of this fab piece.
Becky Connolly is he the one with the white shirt and silver hat
Yeah, about 36:30 in :)
Becky Connolly wonderful memory to have and sorry for your loss I lost my father last year the first Christmas is hard
@@donna1420 I lost my pet spider my nanny is 96 I think is is close to loss
We love you and your family!!
Brilliantly done. You nailed it. I was the dog walker caught in the hailstorm on Christmas morning. Our lovely dog Rufus died two months later from anaemia, so it is wonderful to give him a final public airing like this! Hoping the film gets to 1 million plus hits, thereby nailing another of my personal life goals.
Fantastic job, Sainsbury's!
Yes, I was in Bude
Michael Brown Your clip was hilarious, thank you for sharing with us!
Over 1mil views!!
You got your wish!!! Merry Christmas 🎄
God bless Rufus, he was gorgeous. Wonderful that you have this to look back on. X
Those of you not happy about the geese, should remember that most of the turkey you'll eat this year has been intensively reared. Those geese had a very happy life, outdoors and tears were shed over their deaths, plus they are delicious!
Well said.
Watched this every year since it came out and I’m back again in 2021! Anyone else?
We love it!!!
Me too! Although now I’m just stuck wondering what they’re all doing now and what may have changed over the years. 😂😳
I love love love the contrast between the Prada bag and the radiator keys :D
Caitlin Russell I know which house I’d rather be in 🙂
I now watch this every Christmas time. Its become a Christmas tradition for me. Hope the video stays up for years to come. Its a really interesting watch. so many happy moments but yet some very sad ones too. family's coming together, arguments at the dinner table and the powerful loneliness some experience at this time of year. perfectly captures a true Christmas in Britain for many different people.
agreed mate. it shows christmas in a few different ways.... but all said its a great video and have watched it lots of times this month.
merry christmas
Watching in 2019
Watching in 2020
Me too!
came back for 2021!
Every year I come back to watch this! It's like my little Christmas tradition. It would be interesting if they did one for this year, what with everything going on.
I thought the exact same, it would be great to see some of the same faces
I've commented before that I always come back but this year is just special.
As a guy who lives alone, this made my tear up a few times. Those with family are SO lucky to spend time with them at Xmas, not all of us get that. For some of us, there are no presents are under the tree Xmas morning.
Still here in 2022 I watch this every single year I wish they would do another one haha I wonder how people look now a days in the video watching it back haha
@sainsbury's You should do a catchup - get everyone to film again this year, 10 years on. A guaranteed Christmas hit next year!
That time of year again🌲😁, This time my wife reminded me about this So here i am again ive lost count how many years I've commented!! I think Next year and that will be a decade i've commented!!🤣.So now we have a household of 5 and our little baby boy Odyn was born 08/03/23 Beautiful! This Will be his first christmas!
And suprise another baby due 17th april 24😁❤
So again Merry Christmas and Godbless everyone from my family to yours!🌍❤
Can’t wait for this Christmas, we love you🥰🥰❤️
I love you all Beautiful 🌍🌲❤
Quintessentially British brilliance. Very clever. Just the right amount of dry British humour combined with pathos and a few messages about the real meaning of Christmas. Watch the awards flood in.
Bit surprised by all the comments about showing the geese. Even if you're vegetarian I would have thought it's important to show things like this so that people can make their minds up. As a food retailer, it's good for Sainsbury's to raise these issues.
I am proud to have my videos in the film and also to appear in it. Thank you RSA Films, Sainsbury's and Kevin MacDonald.
Thanks ***** for sending in your videos, we're really happy to have you involved. Enjoy the film!

stand by the fact this is one of the best things any company has ever done for Christmas promotion. Can't think of any other campaign that manages to capture the sheer FEELING of Christmas quite like this,
Best Christmas film out there, I watch it every year! REAL people, real experiences and brilliantly put together.
Now that our kids are all grown up and have left home, every year there comes a time when my wife and I decide 'to not bother so much this year', but we only have to watch this video and that idea flies right out of the window.
It's an incredibly entertaining piece, inducing irresistible laughter at times, (the 'missing' chocolate behind window 24, and the Barbie graveyard,) but more often: irrepressible tears (Dad returning on leave from the forces, at the perfect time; the little girl who thinks she'll get nothing because she's 'been bad'.)
We've never been a religious family, and to us Christmas means so much about family and loving each other, without clouding that with ideas of God and religion: This video emphasizes that aspect of Christmas, without excluding those people who find the religious aspect of it so important.
A masterpiece
The lady who was 106...her secret to living was CLASS at the end...a brilliant film, thanks for posting.
Love the kid with the Barbie Graveyard - a girl after my own heart lol
I'm in this film. It still has an emotional punch.
Sorry... this is a response to the people who don't like this film.
This is terrific because it showcases and celebrates the differences and diversity of people on one given day. It is unashamedly real and emotional... Xmas is not always 100% perfect and happy.
Also, the majority of people do not regard Christmas as being about Christ. This film shows that it's also, to many, about giving and thus receiving, about indulging, about celebrating another year of life and about being together.
I think it's great. Nice one Sainsbury's!
so sad for the homeless, the elderly, and the people who have no one to spent Christmas with. I want to wish them a merry Christmas and a happy new year maybe one day they will get what the want.
Like if you feel the same way. x
and back again in 2023.. bit early for me but went to the shops and saw all of the christmas stuff in - couldnt resist getting in the spirit!

I can't believe there are so many complaints about this. The guy's trying to get across all aspects of Christmas. And yes, that does include the killing of the geese - where do you think your food comes from? And yes, there are homeless and lonely people at Christmas. What, you want it to be all sweetness and light? Sorry, but the world doesn't work like that.
Elfdaughtergames nobody’s complaining though.
If you was in here 4 years ago there was more comments with complaints. @@ellamount9929

I would love for you to do this again, I watch this every year before Christmas and I love it!
Mads. Hands down Sainsbury's make the best Christmas ads. They never disappoint
They are full of energy and enthusiasm and give a real and true feeling of Christmas
They need to make one of these a year , but saying that , I watch this one at least twice a year on the run up to Christmas . Fantastic little film . Love it . 💕🎄
Oh my god, that soldier coming home caught me by surprise - tears galore! Kind of ashamed of myself for essentially crying at a Sainbury's advert!
Loved the film. My only question on the geese was why kill all of them all in one go if they were going to eat them themselves? Maybe she thought they'd guess what was coming. My guess is this year they'll be having turkey. Saddest bit was the little girl who thought Father Christmas wouldn't come. It was our son who was in hospital. He was critically ill - but at the 11th hour received a heart transplant on New Year's Eve and is now back at University. My father, aged 90, seen on camera doing a sort of jig, had to sit down and have a glass of water after all that, having been in hospital himself a few days earlier. This Christmas we'll all be together. Happy Christmas everyone - including all at Sainsbury's and especially Kevin Macdonald,
I'm so, so happy to hear your son has made such a great recovery - lots of love to you all and may you have a very Merry Xmas (from the DJ in the film :) xx
I was hoping someone would say what happened to your Son. What a fabulous start to 2013 you all had. I wish him a long and healthy life
Will's story is so sad, glad to hear his transplant went well and he is on the mend xx thinking of you Will 20:26
Made it a little tradition to watch this every year! Sums up proper British Christmas!!
This is something that I will watch each year. I watched it last year too. It's fantastic.
That's exactly what I have done. It gets me in the Xmas spirit but it really brings it into perspective of how not everyone is as fortunate as us. I love this ! X
I was just seeing if this video was still available. I didn't plan to watch it again lol. I was like just 5 minutes! Then 5 turned in to 10 and then I thought oh knickers to it i'm watching it all lol.
Aha same
taylorswiftielucky13 I'll watch this on Xmas eve too might even hook it up to the TV so my family can watch it :)
This is now a Christmas tradition for me I wish they did it again
I'm back again
I know it's not even December but it's close
I watch this every year
I love films and this is *the* best film ever made !
Watching this has become a Christmas tradition for me. Absolutely love it. Would be fab for them to make a new version at some point but for now it’s not officially Christmas until I’ve gotten into my pjs and settled down to watch this! Merry Christmas 🎄🥰
Same here merry Christmas too you
I've just remembered that this exists and got really excited. Must. Wait. Until. December.
3 Years and I still watch this, i miss those 2013 memories ~
Honoured to have had our footage used (even if I did cry!), wonderful film, wonderful night, thank you so much to RSA Films and Sainsburys for making us feel like stars! I even got a hug from Kevin Macdonald! :) Made my Christmas THIS year!!!
Hi emzfairy we are so glad you liked the film, thank you for contributing!
We love your bit in the film!!! Glad you got the Christmas you wanted and hope you have a great one this year!!
@emzfairy It looks like such a beautiful place where you were spending Christmas. Where was it??
@@westsussexsounds we were in Levi, Lapland. The most beautiful place! It was also us on the skidoo footage they used. Stunning place.
Now is the time to watch this again. We do it every year now, we know it word for word lol! Our favourites include “lots and lots of bowls girl” - “barbie graveyard girl” - i hope this one is an ipad girl” and “Christmas spreadsheet man” its a great film!!!
I like barbie graveyard girl. As Mattel dont make graveyard lol
That time of the year again, Merry Christmas everyone
Me and my family watch this every year!!
Ok, so I've tried to steer clear of this, but that was absolutely lovely. My christmas this year is full of work, but I work in the hospitality trade, and seeing everyone else enjoy their Christmas is exactly what mine is about. I hope everyone has an bloody lovely one this year. Chins, and bottoms, up!
Had an absolutely brilliant time at BAFTA last night. Film is fantastic, and truly representative of the wide diversity that is the UK. Didn't get to meet Kevin unfortunately, but want to say a big THANK YOU for including our clips in the film, and to Sainsburys too!
Hi alisonbater thank you for the lovely comment and contributing to the film, we are glad you enjoyed it!
The little boy fed his sheep again this year on Christmas Day...Thank You Kevin MacDonald and Sainsbury's :-)
I hope he sang the song!!!
I know it's a bit random, but the woman who got radiator keys at 20:20 was my tutor at college for a while.
I watch this every single year, and every single day from 1st December to the 25th! It's my fave! never take this down!!
Oh my days the amount i cry watching this, especially the surprise those kids get
"MAGICAL!"

LOL at that child giving his mum some floor cleaner. - Great work sainsburys!
The reason the child gives is beautiful! He just wanted to make it easy for mummy... LOL But I would kill my husband if our child gave me such thing... LOL
awww loved that part when the military dad came in and suprised his childern bless...aww that made me get tears in my eyes. loved it..xx
Can’t hold off any longer, watching this in June!
😂🎅x
What a wonderful window into other people's Christmas days...
As a bloke in touch with his emotions, I pretty much had onion eyes from start to finish. So much to love in this film. A lot of pride from being British too in this.
"I can't believe they killed the geese" - where do you think your food comes from!!!?
can't believe its been 3 years lol! still watch this every year!
its 4 years 4 me
its that time again everyone where you find yourself watching this in anticipation ;D
Every year...
Can’t believe how fast time has gone! Remember watching this back in 2014
My favourite part is seeing the little kids excited for christmas morning and when they open their gifts. I love seeing the joy on their little faces. I can't wait to have my own children one day to make their christmases magical
Absolutely amazing. I've read some comments with some people complaining about the length and the fact geese were killed, come back to the real world! I admit i cried a couple of times ( very unlike me ) and it was so nice to see a genuine perspective on other peoples christmas rather then the scripted ones. Loved it
I come back here every year, my favourite Christmas film ❤
"its not really about the presents its about being with family and appreciating people because there's people around the world who don't get what I get"
A festive ritual. at the first sign of winter, a frosty morning walk to work, hearing the first Redwing call on a chilly night, or gin for £15 in Tescos, its time to watch this lovely film Christmas in a Day.
I still watch this video every year, I think its just perfect. Would love to see something like this made again
This film will make you laugh as well as cry. You will be touched by some of the stories and maybe even a little upset. But it's a film that has to be viewed.

This might be the best film ever made, I LOVE IT (obviously, as I’m watching it in July!) makes me happy, sad, very happy, very sad, I find it so fascinating. Love everyone in this film..some more than others of course. Hope it never ever disappears from CZcams x
3 years on and it's still has poignant as ever. It really shows all people from different backgrounds, all types of families and the situations people find themselves in.
I hope they consider making another one 😌🎅🏻🎄☃️🎁
sainsburys need to do another one of these
I was dubious about the film as I thought it'll be tinsel rubbish! HOW WRONG WAS I? Fantastic insight into how people view Christmas, what they think of it, how they celebrate it, and what they make of it! The slaughter of the geese? A little upsetting but I respect the director for showing it. IT IS REAL LIFE! Kevin Macdonald, of The Last King of Scotland and Touching The Void, made what could've been a schmaltzy safe insipid piece of garbage into a joy to watch! Loved it!
I've watched this every year since 2013 it's November and will be wAtching a few times on the run up to Christmas this year the kids reaction to their dad coming home for Christmas makes me cry every time a true capture of family Christmases thankyou Sainsbury's xx
Watching this has made me realize the amount of effort some of our parents go through to make sure we have a great Christmas and how different people celebrate it, whether we are able spend it at home, in the hospital, by ourselfs, with our family, if we're old or young, some of us cherish the day and others in a different way.
DO PEOPLE NOT UNDERSTAND THIS FILM AT ALL???
This film is Christmas in different cultures and families. Stop complaining that someone gave birth, and someone killed a goose, Because guess what...Thats life.
It says in the description what to expect! Stop complaining at a beautiful film.
If you think what you've seen in this film is bad... go watch "Life in a day" on CZcams and shut up.
I watch this 3 months before Christmas because I just cannot wait I love the whole atmosphere of Christmas everyone comes together at Christmas time
I love how little kids believe in santa, its very lovely. when your a kid you get excited for santa and i love how kids get excited for him like i did. Very nice, also when yor a parent its nice to have children happy for him coming :)

Well, I am one of the millions that will be alone at Christmas but before I do anything on Christmas Day I am gonna have to watch this again because there is hardly anything I have seen that has gotten me more into the Christmas spirit.
LOVED IT. All praise to Kevin Macdonald for such a moving, funny and charming video.
Merry Christmas to EVERYONE (including all the kill-joys who have posted negative messages. I respect everyone has their own opinion but I was always taught, if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all)
I thought I was alone with the excitement of Christmas this early, nice to see a lot of people have the spirit this early.
When the summer is gone I am in Christmas mood already - listening Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra. :)
The Birth of the baby at the end was AWESOME. Now that baby will be celebrating 1st Birthday as well as Christmas. Happy Birthday Baby, & A very Merry Christmas too.
Have to watch this every year now, its now a tradition and will continue to watch this every christmas! Only 3 more sleeps people!!
It's nice to watch this again, even though it's been a year.

This comment section has made me so mad. So many people complaining about the geese.
Complaining is fine if you're a vegetarian (though, maybe you shouldn't have watched) but if you eat meat then you have no right AT ALL to complain about seeing that. Anyone that eats meat should be prepared to see that and be comfortable with it or they should stop eating meat immediately. Completely selfish and closed minded behaviour.
Those geese were treated brilliantly. Lived a decent and free life before being killed humanely. That's a lot more than the majority of animals get. It was a nice thing to see when you compare it to how KFC kill their chickens. But I'm sure you all love a bargain bucket. Pathetic.
YES!
Emotional roller-coaster that is life!
Love this, warm wishes to each and every person who appears in this, 5 years later....... ❤️
I have watched 16 minutes and 16 seconds of this and I'm going to watch the rest tomorrow. I'm really enjoying it so far
I cried as soon as the Dad from Afghanistan came in!
Me too I was bawling
I'm an atheist but I still love Christmas because it's all about getting together with family, watching the grand kids open their presents, eating too much, drinking too much and having an afternoon kip. It's about family and tradition and you don't have to subscribe to a religion to enjoy that. Having my family around me is spiritual nourishment enough.
It's actually a pagan festival you don't have to believe in God to enjoy the holiday 😀
Oh wow! I didn't realise it would be live just after midnight! Had a wonderful evening at BAFTA tonight. The film is awesome and we're so honoured to have had some of our footage featured. Thank you :-)
I am not Christian and dont come from a Christian nation. But I watch this beautiful documentary every year on the day, and suddenly it does feel like its Christmas. :)
