This pair of Timberland boots were mailed to us for repair. These boots were in very rough shape and definitely needed some love. After an upgraded resole and some thorough cleaning of the uppers, this pair of Timberland boots is good to go. Time for another restoration!

About 15 years ago, I had an old pair of BMW motorcycle boots that had soles I hated. They didn’t grip very well on wet pavement, which is not a good feature when riding a BMW (or any motorcycle). So I went to a cobbler to have them resoled with Vibram soles. I thought it was a simple process, but i remember him telling me that he wanted to replace the midsole with leather to make them last longer and be more comfortable. I whined about the cost, but they ended up being amazing amazing.
Those boots lasted 10 years of riding. I actually sold them on eBay because BMW quit making that style, and because of what the cobbler had done, it made them more valuable because it made it easier to replace the soles.
Now I know why! Thanks for this episode.
how much did it cost if you dont mind me asking
@@lewisreeves9843 This was 15 years ago, so I can’t remember exactly, but it was at least $200. I’m guessing it would be twice that amount now, but BMW motorcycle boots are very expensive, so it was worth it.
@@SkepticalRaptor ye I can imagine! Thanks for getting back to me
Saying BMW about 9 times while both complaining and bragging that BMWs are expensive trash is peak BMW owner.
@@TheSaxyG nail on the head 🤣
I feel like someone could make a whole business out of just upgrading brand new timberlands in the way you guys just did!
You think people would spend 400$-500$ on Timberland boots?
@@AlexanderMason1 yes
@Ron DaChef shut me up.
@@AlexanderMason1 definitely they spend more on tennis shoes that are not even good quality
@@sicilianjiu-jitsu2984 don’t get me started on the super low quality leather Jordans and similar basketball shoes that people buy just because of the logo/brand or because some nba player or rapper wore them…
So... Is this a lesson on how Timberland should be making their boots? 😁
😁
Hah, that was my thought as well! 😀
If Timberland manufactured their boots to the standard of the repair, they would cost three times as much money!
They’re a pretty decent boot for the price point, IMO.
@@topquark6919 LOL. Or maybe it's time they start to invest more in quality than easy extra income 😂
The red sole stitch was a nice touch!
I think it looks terrible.
@@xavierxi9348 no worries! To each their own.
No it wasn't.
@@gplusgplus2286 no worries! To each their own.
Isn't that going to let all water just enter the boot
I have a pair of Timbs where the soles delaminated just that that. I took them to a local cobbler and he was able to re-sole with full depth black Vibrams that gave it many more years of wear for them. I've had these Timbs for a total of 26 years so I've been really happy with them and they're still part of my outdoor boot collection.
I always thought cobblers only worked with high end shoes made from exotic leathers I can’t pronounce or afford 😭 so seeing a NYC staple on your bench is something. Great work.
Higher end shoes are much easier to work on, but cobblers often work on a lot of different shoes/boots. Glad you enjoyed it!
Are high end brands that have wonderful looking silhouettes, but are not known for shoes specifically such as Saint Laurent, Gucci, and Prada also fairly easy to have redone?
Hahaha, NY is single handedly keeping Timberland a viable company. I still remember all the stores at every major mall. Every other dude is rocking them.
@@assistantchip723
Depends, the designer brand shoes vary greatly in make and quality from model to model. The better (more expensive) ones can often be decently made, often times blake stitched (the sleek and elegant Italian style models), those can be repaired fairly easily. The cheap ones that have just a one piece rubber sole, they can usually be repaired, if that's worth it or not depends on the insole and footbed construction and the shape of the uppers.
@@assistantchip723 Saint laurent quality is really good imo owning a wyatt harness, and shouldn't be difficult for cobblers to work on. I found that gucci quality and consistency was worse in general more of a "fashion" shoe. Prada in the middle.
Loved the red stitching... didn’t even know that was possible...well done!!!
The way they should have been made!!
Thank you for showing us the light!
Thank you very much!
The red stitching was the icing on the cake!
Nice to see Mt. Gluvious featuring prominently in several sequences! That's one hard-working glue pot! Best wishes from (a very cold) Ireland!
Haha...thank you sir! Mt. Gluvious is an integral part of our business. 😉
The boots look great! I love that y'all keep us realistic while also giving us ideas for how to take our shoe repair game up a notch.
Please take your time and take care of yourselves, we're just glad to have you on this platform!
I’ve been waiting for this exact video, I didn’t know if it would be worth it to get my timbs resoled. I’m very glad I know. Thank you!!
Wow. Judging by the work I’ve seen done, I just may ship you guys my “outside” pair of suede Wolverines steel toes that I clean with a brass grill brush and lava soap, and weatherproof with a soaking of WD-40 when they dry. I’d love to see one of y’all do another “What the ....” video.
So spraying with wd40 works for water proofing??
HOLY MOLY those poor boots
@@tedpendagast579 The "WD" in WD-40 stands for "water displacement".
Yes, it should work.
@@surlyogre1476 learn something new everyday!! lol
These boots came out great. I think that the stains make them look better. I regret throwing away a pair of 20-year old Timbs that I owned. Awesome video once more.
Heck of an upgrade, considering how much Timberlands are, glue only construction seems like a rip.
The sewing work and nailing ...the grip makes the shoe more stronger then before .....and also much more durable ...great work 👍
Great video. I had a pair of nubuck Timberland hiking/trail boots, took them to get cleaned, help with the seam ... I got back leather boots! I think I remember him saying mink oil was used. I still have those darn boots in a closet I use in colder months, just no snow or rain. Not every cobbler is a cobbler!
You could hear the excitement in his voice when he said .." it's just glued on "
😁
Awesome video. I think my favorite videos are when y’all re-sole something that probably “shouldn’t” be re-soled. It’s interesting and fun and different. Cant wait to see what y’all do next
Thank you very much for watching!
Great to see your business thriving! Yet another amazing boot revival. Edited to add: I have a pair of suede boots that I've not worn yet. I've applied some weather proofing spray but some advice would be welcome around how often this should be re-applied. Great video!
That sole stitching looks amazing! Sure... most people will never see it, but wow! I've never seen that. Like I've said before... you gentlemen are shoe artists.
Love how you put heart and sole on your work.
Thank you. We always want it done right.
Glad you guys did a video of a pair of Timberlands like this. I have a pair of smooth leather Timberland boots I want to get done with the vibram soles. You guys are the best. Keep it up. I'll be sending my boots out very soon.
Thank you! Always happy to help.
The decorative red stitching on the sole is way cool! Great job.
MEN, you are mad! I am looking at you from Europe, Romania. For two years from now I am crazy about shoe restoration videos because I paid in my life (the equivalent of)150$ for 2 pairs of shoes, each, in different stages of my life, this bein the top of my budget just because I saw them and absolutely loved the model, but their construction proved to be poor even though their looks were good. So thinking about how and where to restore them, who has the knowledge in Romania and the tools and the expertise and the WILL to try I reached too many channels of shoe restoration, yours beautiful too.
Thank you for the quality of your information and I congratulate you on your passion! Been stupid, now I buy superb second-hand or outlet shoes at a fraction of the price I paid a few years ago, all made abroad for ABROAD markets, not for Eastern Europe, and the quality is STRIKINGLY DIFFERENT! And I can now say that even I don't repair them, I am not crying over the loss of the original money. (being a photographer I am carrying heavy equipment long time in hot or humid environments in a kind of a sporty movement manner and this is absolutely MELTING my shoes)
I have never seen these style boots get resoled / restored I am very impressed the red stitching is a nice touch awesome work as always guys !! Much love !
Thank you!
I think I like the restored look better than the original look. Great job!!
Yay! The uppers are always my fav part!
Wow, wish mine looked and were rebuilt like these. Thanks for sharing.
When I saw the thumbnail I was like this is going to be good. And you guys didn't disappoint.
Thank you!
That stitching is so nice. Phenomenal job. That’s definitely an upgrade for sure!
Thank you very much!
Excellent job! I love the final look of them ♡
Great video. Love the leather midsole upgrade and the red stitching. Can't wait to wear my Timbs down so I can something like this done.
I love the redo beginning to end. I’d love it if the video were longer so we could more clearly see the transformation. A little more time on each step would be great. I love watching for stress relief😅😅 You both do such beautiful work. It’s truly an art!!!
Thank you so much!
The red stitching was the icing on the cake. I love it.
Thank you!
Agreed...totally classy look.
As strage fact, I’m a Timb customer since 1985, and always had Vibram and never had issues, of course a couple of times I managed to warn the rubber. I talk abt Timb purchased in Italy and Swiss
That is hands down the sweetest outsole stitch I've ever seen done on a pair of boots..
Thank you!
Awesome job! I wish you'd do a tutorial on polishing two-tone shoes like spectators. I'm scared to go at mine because I'm afraid of smudging the white
Is it just me or when sending boots for repair go ahead and clean the mud off the treads first 🤦♂️
In my country craftsmen don't even take your stuff to repair if its dirty (footwear/clothing)
common sense and courtesy are not so common
My thoughts exactly. I would be ashamed to send someone such a dirty mess. The sole fact (no pun intended, haha) that I pay for something doesn't give me any right to be rude.
I have timberlands that 20 years old.. and they’re in very good condition , Timbs are very well constructed.
One of my requests has been fulfilled! Thanks a lot Trenton! Wish I could experience some of your proper winter ❄️
Today the temperature was 20 degrees Celsius in Greece. Not even autumn standards 😆
One of my very favorite vacations is when my dad took me to Greece for vacation! Loved it!!
This is why I only buy Timberland boots on clearance at an outlet.
I never find them on sale
@@Pg-ch5nb visit an outlet mall. They have them regularly there.
Dude I have a pair of boots that our local gas station imports from Mexico way better quality leather you expect but you just have to check the colors because sometimes the boots don't match exactly.
I wouldn't ever buy their crap, over priced.for what they are
This channel is sooo my guilty pleasure!! Great to see an upgrade on 'normal' priced footwear. Great job.
Why is it a “guilty” pleasure? 😂
Not a huge fan of Tims but I know a LOT of people love em. I just bought my brother in law a pair of em for Christmas. Good stuff man. I never realized they could be rebuilt.
Way back, I had a pair of Timberland boots as a very young man. They fell apart at the 6 month mark. I was poor and very angry. Never did that again. Went to Redwings. I had one pair that got soles 4 times before they were useless.
These days, I don't need a tough work boot. I got some Allen Edmonds Park City vibram sole rough leather. Comfortable, tough, and resole easy. Clean and leather conditioner regularly. Should last longer than I will.
My Saturday morning staple. Great even without a dose of Grapenuts lol. Southern Polish sandals gonna be hitting my feet this summer even if I still have nowhere to go!
We love it! Thank you so much!
An exemplary job!
You folks have literally resuscitated some shoes and boots, but replacing these soles with a classier and more functional stitched construction, along with the general clean up, takes a run-of-a-mill pair to a new level. How about a pair of Doc Martens?
Great job, thanks! 🤙
Thank you so much! We receive this question a lot, so it’s definitely a brand we’re going to do a video on.
@@TrentonHeath Aces! I still have some MIE Docs with completely worn soles from decades ago, always hoping I may still revive them some day. Thanks!🤙
@@jonkomatsu8192 They were made by Solovair.
Those soles turned out beautiful! Great craftsmanship
Great vid , stitching between lugs on sole not seen that done before 👍👏🙀
I recently had two pairs of shoes resoled. The uppers were in fine condition. It cost me half the cost of replacing them.
funny you posted this ive been paying attention to my timbs and was wondering if they could be resoled
The boots look 100% better. The red stitching was a nice touch. Stay safe and warm.
Thank you!
I always love this kind of honest work. Especially when the result is nicer from below than from above :D.
Thank you!
These boots cost a lot of money, but they a cheaply made with a glued on sole. Thats not cool.
The only thing well made, just like Nike's, is the price tag for over 20 years now.
The quality went to shit a while ago. But people think paying more for a name automatically means quality.
These maybe cost 120?
Atleast in my area. But still should have some stitching
Those are bulletproof and completely waterproof. You don't find that at their pricepoint. Stop whinning.
@@CptAngelKGaming bulletproof? Since when. My last pair of timbs were junk
Always like the red stitching as well...
Love the sole stitching. Such good work. BTW - love your sandals. Got them 6 months ago and they're the first open toed sandals I've ever enjoyed wearing.
Love the way the leather was cared. Learnt a lot!!
Seriously, guys… you both work miracles with shoes and boots!!! I wish that all Timberland boots came like this. That is a sexy pair of boots now!!! Awesome video, Gentlemen 😎👍🏾
Do you think you’ll be able to repair a pair of Yeezy 350’s? I would be prepared to ship them al the way to the US (livin in Holland)
Judging by the stains on the toes, I’d say the owner is a successful hunter. By some of what I saw of the outsole, they put their feet too close to the campfire. Great work! Stay square!
immediately thought too that looked like blood, but attributed it to a working man injury, didn't think about an animal
or he murderd a guy and than burned him to destroy DNA proof
No where near enough blood for an animal
@@theknifeconnection9571 I’ve cleaned and skinned many deer, dove, turkey, and quail. A few drops are all I get on my boots, because I’m careful.
Over here we just don't care I guess.
The ultimate pair of constructs where born that day
Nice work guys I LOVE your channel and the care and work you put into people's shoes! Keep on keeping on!
Thank you very much!
I really liked the red stitching and I had no idea how poorly made Timberland boots are. I can't wait to send my boots to you someday
Thank you!
They’re actually well made for the price. Check rose anvil page fir the video.
Nice work Trenton. Namaste 🙏🏻😇🌺🌈🦋
Thank you!
Great work!
I know it's not the reason you did it, but I also just love the look of that stitched leather midsole too. Functional of course, but the look is a nice bonus
And sure, it probably cost close to a new pair of a new pair of boots. But this way you get a way better pair of boots out of it!
Watching this repair I startet to cry.Years ago I brought my beloved Timberlands to a cobler to resole it….and he ruined my Boots and I throwed them out broken harted. Now Seeing how it has be done still breaks my Heart.Thank you for your work!Cheers from Germany!Niko
the red was a shock, love it
Thank you!
Ya'll need to put up some foam on the walls, would help with the echo of the room. Doesn't need to be a lot, just enough to keep sounds from bouncing. Otherwise, great video.
Love the wonderful touch with the custom stitching job.
Thank you very much!
You guys do awesome work, love watching your videos, keep posting!
Thank you very much!
Who restores Timberlands? They seem cheap to me.
because they can.
I would love to send my timberlands for this job.
I can watch these videos all day. Just found this channel
Being an old plastics chemist, part of what you are doing in the cleaning with acetone is cleaning away a mold-release compound, too. A fella needs to get that off very completely for your new adhesive to get a good bond(grip). I really enjoy watching you two birds fix the "un-fixable". LOL!
Thank you so much for watching!
I hope you're wearing a mask or respirator while you're grinding off the excess midsole and sanding the edge of the sole. Those processes throw a bunch of particles in the air that aren't good for your lungs. This is the same sort of dust control that woodworkers should use.
Just from a respect factor clean your soles before bringing them to the cobbler. Some people are such trash.
👍
why is watching shoe repair so satisfying
We are Blessed to have a local Shoe/ Boot Repair Shop in Marianna, Florida. That does guality work.
I’ve been wearing timberland boots for 23 years and not once did my sole separate like that. Almost like they were purposely separated.
Could be where they were made. They are made mainly in Dominican Republic but also USA, China, Vietnam. We all how great Chinese quality control is :(
The only 'issue' with this is they don't look like Timberland Classic 6" boots anymore. The profile has changed, the narrow sole and welt the originals come with is low profile and doesn't 'spill' over the edge this much. I know they've gained a new lease of life with quality upgrade workmanship, bits and components, but also look like fake Timbs from the normal distance too.
Literally no one other than a few black dudes in NYC care if they "look fake." Stupid shoes and a stupid style. Cool video though.
@@SirPhilMcCrackinVonBeggington Oh you'd be surprised. There's a whole gang of Timbs followers who wouldn't touch anything even little out of whack from what they consider original. I agree, they're just boots but ain't stupid, to each his own.
As always, I really enjoy all of your videos. I find it very entertaining to watch. Great work on all you do.
Thank you very much and thank you for watching!
why am i watching shoe repair youtube? Why am I enjoying it?!
Me too
Hi Trent! Classy and informative as always! Have a nice weekend! Cheers!
Thank you very much and you as well!
This is the CEO of Timberland. Thank you so much for teaching us how to make our shoes properly.
Now this video really did convince me that I would send you my Timberlands after I get it beat up.
Great work you guys!
Thank you!
Love watching the press that secures the sole. For some reason it's very satisfying. Great job as always guys.
Thank you!
@@TrentonHeath How does the press work exactly? Just by applying pressure or is there heat involved? Been wondering since the first time I watch your video. 😃
I like that decorative red stitching on the soles! 👍
Hi Trent. I see that you finally got the Timberland boots that you were looking for awhile back to do a video on. If these were my boots I would probably sit either with my leg crossed or both stretched out and crossed so everyone could see the cool red stitching on the soles. A nice artistic touch. It's this kind of little attention to details that keep customers coming back again and again. Stay safe and warm. It's colder than the shady side of an iceberg here in the midwest today. :-D. BRRR.
Thanks so much! Yep, this is 1 of 2 pairs that we chose. Can’t wait to do the others as well. Haha...stay warm!
This was great! You’ve given this New Yorker a sigh of relief. I’ve wondered if Timbs could be resoled and y’all make it clear that they can. Now I just have to find mine.......
👍
I'm pretty sure you just made the best pair of timberland boots ever made.
You guys might check out a cleaning tool called the Tornador. It is primarily designed for carpets and car seat fabrics (probably furniture as well) but I've used mine for shoes with fantastic results. You hook it up to an air compressor (you need an above average air flow rate), put tap water in there, and the tool will magically clean shoes of all types -- leather, fabric, etc. It may only be a first step in some of the shoes/boots you get, especially for shoes/boots that have years of neglect but it is easy to use.
i found out you can use brown greese and it can make the dark spots go away, but it changes the color, for my taste it gets even wonderful
Key words for reallying cleaning boots..take'em to the car wash, have someone stand in them that don't mind getting wet,and blast them at about 8-12inches away with the same blaster wand you use on your car. Works for 90-95 percent of all stains in my honest experience. Removes some color, but that's not a hard fix.
I like watching REAL craftsmen at there trade. It takes talent.
Long time fan, would love to see a tour of the shop and an explanation of some of the machinery you guys use. Great video!
Thank you. An shop video is in que.
Awesome work, I do have Timberlands but the sole are gone. I tried to take to the cobbler where I lived and he told me that those soles can't be replaced!
