I was just given an Avalir 1 for free! The lady that gave it to me stated she’d used it maybe four times in the 8 years she’s had it (confirmed - brush roll looked brand new and most of the attachments were still in plastic!). I’m already in love with it. I used to sell Kirby’s door to door (G6) way way back in the day haha!

I used to demonstrate the G3 when it 1st got launched . My mom used to have heritage 2 serviced every year .
After seeing that I swore I would only ever use a Kirby in my house from day 1 . 👍👍
I was a G6 seller too, a few years after this I managed to get a second hand G6, ended up letting that go with the (ex) bf in mutual split up. I ended up with a plain brand water vacuum then. I've still got that, but recently moved to a place with lots of carpets so I finally became a Kirby owner again, scoring a Sentria II in excellent condition for 100 bux a month ago!
I'll always have a special place in my heart for Kirby's.
I sold g6, number 2 manager in great lakes division. My daily driver. Saw the ballers in Jamaica. Marty Fuchs was my boss, love him ❤
I grew up with a 1972 Kirby. When I left home, I bought a used 1973 model. They were almost identical. Recently, someone gave me the generation 4. There is a lot of difference there. I like that it has a disposable bag as the old models did not. The generation 4 is not built nearly as well as the old ones. I am finding rust on the generation 4 and the holder for the cord broke off. Kind of cheap for such an expensive machine. I'm thinking about getting rid of one of them. I think I might keep the 1973. There is less stuff to go wrong and it is just built better.
We stuck with a Gsix, one of our neighbors left out on the curb, needed a new belt, power cord, and brush roll. Changed the busted ones, and it runs like new!
Thats awesome the only Curb find i got was my Legend 2 that i refurbished and all it needed was a new fan and a brushroll.
Shocking what people throw out for trash and they probably paid thousands when they bought it new . But throw them out then go back to the same cycle of buying endless plastic throwaway vacuums
That's how most of my thrift store finds been like, most of the vacuums just needs belts and bags and they run just fine.

I like the color scheme on the red Avalir the best.

We use a Kirby sentria where I work absolutely brilliant. Theirs acres of carpet so works well.
Nice overall summary of the latest Kirby models. I am very satisfied with my Avalir II. I had the G4 and Sentria I. Also great models G4 traded in and Sentria went to youngest daughter.

The outer bag needs to be larger to accomidate the larger disposable bags that Kirby has now.Its sort of awkward stuffing the bag in the large one.Just a minor thing.

Like you I loved my g4 and wish i still had it, traded it in for a diamond which i never like so got a sentria which i still have plus 2 avalier 100th anniversary edition

Aside from cosmetics and updates to the emtor and bag dock, they haven’t changed all that much. Which isn’t a bad thing they do work well and if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. My favorite designs are the G3, G6, Diamond Edition, and Avalir. I’m not a fan of the G4 or 5. The Sentria 1 and 2 aren’t ugly, but I just don’t like them, although I do like the retro style bag on the Sentria 2. And the half moon zipper I really liked, it was so much easier to get to the bag, and once you do it a couple times its easy to zip it without snagging the bag. I think the Avalir is probably the one most should buy as it’s more modern and you get all the upgrades and it’s just an Avalir 2 that’s a different color. I use my Avalir daily and ended up selling my 2 as I didn’t use it and someone I knew really wanted it because they liked the blue and I didn’t. I flop between my Avalir and Diamond Edition mainly. I may add a low power switch to my Avalir as I have a spare one. But any Kirby, as long as it’s in good working order, is a good buy as far as I’m concerned.

You will love it , just don’t get overwhelmed with everything it does.

Thks Dean. Informative comparisons on all these models. Is your G4 shown the 'later' model with the reduced wattage? My G4 has a different belt lifter than yours shown, so I think mine would be the earlier model --- correct?
No my G4 is the 700w 1994 model , I changed the belt lifter to a newer one when I upgraded to a G6 head so I could use oblique brush roll. 👌👌
G6 had all that. Gracious- Don't get me wrong, I could get down with a legend =)

Hi. I am just getting into the kirby world and was curious what you would choose between a g4 or a sentria 2?
Sentria 2 is a great machine , unless you get an early G4 pre 1995 with 700w motor and upgrade to late emptor you’re better off getting Sentria 2.
Which Kirby has the least amount of plastic in it and which is the most beautiful to look at and best built? They all perform relatively similarly. I'd buy a Kirby based on looks and build quality.
The last Kirby that didn’t have plastic base is the Kirby G7 / Ultimate G.
Unless you are looking for a vintage Kirby with no tech drive then I would recommend the Kirby legend 2 . 👍👍

my g6 kirby is having power issues when I push or pull.. what could it be?
If it keeps cutting out I’d check the power chord connection where it locks into rear top of handle may have a short . 👍🔔
I took the head off and now trying to install it back - the belt doesn’t turn to OFF. It goes half way around and stops on ON. What did I do wrong ans how can I fix it? Thanks
You have to wind the belt on the belt lifter before fitting to the Kirby .
Ok so I'm curious. What do you think about a Kirby in a commercial setting, like a church with about 15000 square feet of carpet tile?
I think it’s worth using , I have a fellow youtuber who uses Kirby to clean houses commercially before cleaning carpets with VLM
