I'm happy to hear that the devs remain engaged and plan to remain engaged. That said, as long as they remain absolutely committed to community dependence on racing, I'll likely keep my distance. If and when they simply allow me to go to a race and... race it, I'll come back 🤷♂
No one gives a shit the game already lost 90% of its playerbase once that might happen and next NFS is close to releasing.
Unbound was my last NFS for sure.
The only update I've needed since day one was a bigger lobby or race matchmaking. The fact they fed me new cars and bodykits instead shows they didn't care.

They need to make it like they did back on heat offline and online there’s literally no point starting over online again after completing offline story mode that’s what killed it for almost everyone
Imo they should separate each effect like it was before, so you could choose to have only tire smoke effect, or only wings effect.

I noticed that not having the tags effect is an issue regarding knowing perfect launches, boost, etc.
The game really uses that to provide info to the player, maybe they should add some form of "hue effect"

I am really about the customization and something that really puts me off in nfs and also the crew is some cars for example would have 3 bumpers. 1 which is the stock, 2 being the exact same but carbon which honestly could be done with stickers and 3 being the only different one so you are left with 1 part
I particularly liked the visual effects. I don't even know if I'm going to try to play without this new option because it might lessen the fun of the game. I would like them to make a ranking (regional and worldwide) of the best times per track for each car model
Just add options to turn certain animations on/off like yellow nos, tags, animations, nos light trails, all the above, etc. And add the option to race against AI (with a buffed difficulty for maybe a higher reward) in the random online playlist to grind challenges then players will inherently race against each other kinda like a “quick race”. Simple
I haven’t played this game since release due to a few reasons, I’m curious what the devs might be cooking for new years. Hopefully the future updates make me return.
It doesn't matter if you love the effect or not. Some people, not everyone, but a lot of people, find the effect distracting. In a game about driving at high speed where you have to maintain focus, those effects are very distracting, and overtime, they can be annoying.
I definitely agree with ur take on letting the players decide how they want to play the game. Almost every feature should be toggle-able in a game. Unbound isn’t doing enough to bring me back, but I suppose it’s a step in the right direction. Now, if IVT can fix the mess they made in season 2 update, in Motorfest, by allowing u to toggle whether or not u want that stupid animation for rolling parts, rewinding, and most importantly, scraping parts to play out, I’m sure 99% of the community would love that change. Gaming devs remember this, matter of fact everyone remember this, DON’T FIX WHAT AINT BROKE FFS 🤦♂️😪
Do you go to movies and think there should be a set of switches for you to toggle to make it look, sound, act and end the way you want? I don't understand why "gamers" insist on games allowing the dismantling of their vision, but not other mediums.

I haven’t played unbound since March. The only way I will go back to it is if they add the solo grind feature to online. I wanna race by myself sometimes.

Haven’t played this game since launch only because I was busy with other games. Looks good with all the effects turned off. But I still like the looks of the effects turned on. Will have to check it out this weekend.
I understand there are a lot of people that enjoy the effects but I personally think it makes it like a child’s arcade racer. Imagine them doing this on GT 7 or Forza… completely takes away the racing/street racing vibe and makes it feel like I should pass the controller to a toddler lol just my opinion
The solution to this issue is simple why dont they just add a challenge mode with exclusive vehicles to use like in most wanted for example a time trial but with a traffic car or police car and the reward for completing the challenge is the vehicle you used in that challenge but of course make it accessible in both multiplayer and single player but you can only earn it in the challenge mode no were else and add a a proper drag race mode

Ngl i spent 700 hrs on nfs unbound because the multiplayer is pretty addictive. I'm just wish they didn't split the progression between single player & multiplayer and i think that's the reason why some people didn't play mp or play unbound more..
@@akanerosecan confirm, having to basically start a new career mode but without any cutscene, lore or sense of progression made me try online for a few hours after ending the story, then uninstall since last December
Maybe this change of tone is due to all those games that are getting updates based on their community feedback and thus having better sales stat .
It would be time they decide to really listen to the NFS community ... and add some new cars and not just cosmetics .
If they release a car pack or a map extension for 5/15 bucks , i would pay fo it .
Honestly what drove me away with the Tiers, but slowly after a while I get it, just something I havent come to adapt to yet, cause I'm more once to one car fits all races lol
edit: and actually needing the community to engage in races with you to even do a race in multiplayer, I'd rather the old nfs heat, fill in with bots option, that way, like you said, you can still do your challenges and etc, it just feels like having a seperate multiplayer mode wasn't the move, I liked the single player and ONLINE option so you can keep doing your thing in the story regardless, or if you wanted to break and see what your vehicle is capable of, you could just join a race invite that pops up and see, that seemless transition was always a favorite for me.
I'm happy to see Criterion have new updated features for Unbound but as you suggested in your video, I do think it's too little too late. It's a shame as I can honestly say playing Unbound is some of the best online racing fun I ever experienced. I still play when I fancy something different to Motorfest. I really don't like that new feature of generated playlists, It's hard enough to get any players to join your game as it was, now we have this to contend with! I actually quite like the effects (they give the impression of speed) and would probably keep them turned on but appreciate (Finally) the option to switch them on or off.

They added event called half pack in single player which is 4 car races but the same tracks still .some ai feel faster tho too.but honestly they need races to be launched across all lobbies on multi player,we need new track layout.we need a betting system online especially for gauntlet and we need a better heat system online

Been delaying buying since release - now it's on sale I'm excited to start playing. I think at first I'll keep the zany graphics on - I think it's a great art style but if I find them too annoying then I'm happy I've got the option to turn them off. Nice video

It's cool but damn it loses a lot of the sense of individuality and 'power' of hitting a Burst Nos lv3. Though I am glad they are giving us CHOICES without deviating from their chosen style! I do wish we'd get those exhaust flame animations though, they look insane with that style. I want that for all tags!

I know it’s all opinionated but I always hated the stupid effects. I understand why they went with them being that today’s car enthusiasts are vastly different from car enthusiasts around the NFS Underground days especially with the JDM scene which makes up a large portion of car enthusiasts. It was definitely very anime inspired. I personally felt like it didn’t really add anything other than just another thing I’d have to endure to enjoy the game. Being able to remove them is probably the best change they’ve made to the game. Though I don’t think it’s enough to bring players back to it. What you said about the devs saying they want to try different things to see what works and what doesn’t using player feedback, that’s where my hope comes in. Need For Speed fans have been asking for a better game for a while and I know they see what people are saying and suggesting that would heavily contribute to a great title. Their problem is they just don’t listen or they listen and throw us something we weren’t really quite asking for. Good take on everything, that’s just my own 2 cents on it.

I had it on GamePass Ultimate. But I really didn't like the silly sfx. So I'm glad they now allow the option to cut it off. I'm just more of a sim racer now. Started out with Ridge Racer and Need For Speed. But I prefer realism of GT7 or ACC.
my only issue with NFS unbound was that the single player mode felt dead after finishing the main story, like there was zero motivation to keep playing the game once the story finished and it's not like the story was long to start with
Maybe when it goes on sale, I'll consider buying it since it now has the option to remove the effects. Those effects literally prevented me from wanting to buy it.

As a Hardcore Need for Speed fan myself i feel that the change they did removing the tire smoke effects is Awesome and gread Kudos to NFS and Criterion. I bought the game earlier this year and as a Result i was very dissapointed with the game feeling i waisted my hard earned money
Reason
1. The tire and smoke effects completely putt my off from the game and totally ruining my experience of how a NFS game should feel they lied to us telling us from the start it could be turned off entirely but wasnt true
2. I personally feel that NFS Unbound's difficulty to the AI racers is set to Agressively and when you win it feels like you won by pure luck.
NFS Carbon was hard but Unbound takes it to a totally differrent level and i dont like that. I feel the game and AI should be made easier before i give Unbound a try again
3. The cops in the Game is Plain annoying and dumb in my opinion and they dont do much except for chasing you and annoying you. The cops should be like Heat's
4. I donlt like the fact that you have to start everything over in Online/Multiplayer its dumb and ruins the experience im not gonna put another 40 hours in on online again to unlock cars again
Overall i think NFS Unbound is in a better state now but its definetly not on my top 10 for NEED FOR SPEEDS

I don't know why by them posting that message. I have a feeling that they're going to put more time and work on their next game. Which is the reason why they said they're going to release more updates for unbound. I really hope that they take their time with the next project and let codemasters handle the physics and controls.

My last nfs was streets of LA and I ha eto say I dnt know wha all the hate is, this game is amazing and the art style is sick and story mode feels like your doing fast in the furious underground street races. I love this game. Just wish there was a way to make a lot of money fast in story so I could buy the custom cover car lop

I'd start playing online/multiplayer again if they included one or more A.I. racers when no one joins a race. I get frustrated and leave the game when I can't get anyone to race, especially when I'm trying to participate in a certain number of races to unlock a car.

To be honest i really wished they had put more effort in HEAT. I feel like HEAT really could've been the best NFS, to each its own tho that's jus my opinion 🤷♂
As a long NFS fan, and understanding what the franchise has been through and what it has become up until this day... I do like that finally there's some post-launch support for a full console release (ergo, not NFS No Limits), but it does hurt me a little that it's been done on Unbound, I personally don't like it and once again, having every major new change/addition only on multiplayer mode (so no single player dedicated DLCs) only gets me even further away from it. So, good for those enjoying it if any, "good" for NFS as a franchise to finally "sort of" have the attention it deserves, such a shame it was on such a divisive and -subjectively- weak entry.
The current visual effects, especially the cartoonish shockwaves, are perceived as disruptive. Transitioning to more realistic elements like light effects or authentic wind animations could enhance the gaming experience without compromising the gameplay mechanics. Emphasizing a more balanced visual design could foster acceptance within the community.

I do understand the statement that by disabling the effects you kind of undo the intentions and work of the devs .. is true but player choice and agency should always be the nr1 focus. Do offer choices .. don't try to dictate about things like that. Especially when this feature is so controversial and while it might be enhancing for some people, its simply offputting for others. Thats like saying color blind mode undoes the visual intention of the devs... this shouldn't even be up for discussion.
Companies .. devs .. whatever need to get off their high horse at some point and just use a lil bit of common sense. I personally dont mind the effects too much. But nontheless, this must and always should've been optional.
I already played over 100 hours of the game from its release date and I got pretty tired of racing the same races against the same cars over and over again. You should be able to pick the tier/class track and time of day/weather in a multiplayer lobby. Creating a custom track or something would be nice.
In ultrawide the UI is ridiculus sinçe its on middle screen and not sides

I like this update and I hope they continue in the same fashion, improve wheel support ,force feedback and add cockpit view. I completely disagree with most of what you said tho, the cartoony effects and characters are why this game was a flop, its a bit too late now since Motorfest is out.

The run from the cops experience is exactly what made me switch to Motorfest. At some point I just wanna race, the cops got really annoying. The visual effects were actually cool IMO

Just make the normal matchmakimg like in "Forza" or "Need for Speed World" it will be a good step to not burying the game
Now if they could fix the handling to be less twitchy and reign in the crash cam. I swear I spin out less in Forza horizon 5. On another note how is you game so beautiful? I play at high or ultra on a 5k tv and I can't even get rid on the gagged lines with the anti-aliasing.

Anyways, I think NFS future games should include the option in the Settings to turn Off/On the "Unbound Anime" feature. That way if ppl felt like playing with it on other (future) titles they could.
I had the opportunity to buy NFS Unbound and didn't because I can't stand those ridiculous effects. Now I may consider buying it. Althought it looks very similar to NFS Heat.
