DISPLACEMENT: YOU NEED TO CHECK MARK USE EXPERIMENTAL, THEN CHECK VIEWPORT U NEED TO USE LAST RENDERVIEW WHICH IS CYCLES!

2:24 this.. I couldn't render my scene as it required 6 gigs of VRAM and I only had 2. I spent so much time optimizing geo and shrinking/deleting textures that don't make a difference and could only optimize to 4.6 gigs vram. It turned out that I had two objects with 1 px adaptive subDs on and they ate 4 gigs of vram! Changed it to regular subDs (could also turn PX size down) and now scene renders at 600mb vram usage :)

It is possible to do this type of displacement with all type of textures?

ooooooeee, the sound I made when you slid that slider, oh boy slide that slider oh boy you slide that slider real good like urrrg. I've been a video editor for so many years, youtube just for fun dumb stuff until this summer. Due to recent things I can't work and I have very little money, so I wanted to get back into 3D, because trust me I know video editors who wonder "wtf how'd they make this?". I originally began with a much earlier version of blender, so the 2.8 UI was super confusing and I was basically back to square one.
There's still allot that confuses me, I don't get if I did something wrong or if these plugins are conflicting with another one I really need. Just gotta learn it, repetition and trial and error. So your services (which for me are cheap and will help me allot), along with what I can afford from blender market for plugins to help me with sculpting humans and fine detailing tanks and guns, which previously I never had the time to get into and is proving to be a challenge modelling historical people like Churchill. I know there's gotta be an easier way and when I realize it I'll think damn I was an idiot. It's how I learned to become a proper video editor who actually understands how crucial a cut is and the impact it can have on the cinematography and the story if done improperly. I'm such a stuck up prude now when I watch movies. One wrong cut and I want to throw my remote.
(I've bought some models, I mean that Soviet building pack is gorgeous, but I want to model my own stuff. I prefer references, then I make the same thing over and over until I want to die. Then leave that scene and the asset I made and want to use alone for a while, and move on to the next or just go tickle my nieces and let them kick my ass for a while). But thanks for the cheap great service. I've fallen into the trap of these "free 3d assets" sites, I mean they looked legitimate. Only to find after that I had downloaded models that I found up for sale on other places. I've been contacting the authors to let them know and fully admit I downloaded their asset, it'll mess my budget up but I'll buy the licenses for them even if I just used it for reference. I don't want to cheat my way to success and a better life as a professional in environment design, I want to earn a better life because this is a whole different ball game than video editing! The world is literally at your finger tips and I am captivated by all of this now. I was looking at imperfections on the floor at Walmart and looking at how the light, and the things around it made it look from different angles. I look up and several people are looking at me trying to guess what hard drug I'm on or something haha. Fuck I ramble allot. Thanks man, you guys are inspiring allot of people in a time when we need it the most.
Although those bastard websites also seem to have given me malware I cannot get rid of and it's getting very annoying and slowing down an already slow computer.

Same issue as others here, This video needs an update, as the Displacement nodes do not affect the plane model I am using the Ground Clay material and no displacement happens at all with it.

@@vanessa-huynh I have done that and still no changes to the plane, Do I need to manually subdivide the plane for the displacements to happen?
      Blender View : ibb.co/Sd8tQQv
I noticed for some reason that Blender file did not add the MicroDisplacement modifier to the stack, So I tried a completely fresh file, Created a plane scaled it up a bit, Applied the material using the Poliigon Material Convertor, It applied the microdisplacement modifier, I changed the displacement settings to 50 in the material node and even with the modifier there was no displacement happen when viewing the plane in Rendered view.
Also tried with the default cube,
left all imported settings as normal and chose Import Micro DIsplacement,
Again applied MicroSubsurf to the stack,
Chose Simple on the Micro SubSurf,
      put Viewport to 6
      Quality to 5,
      Change view to Rendered
      Displacement Strength to 2.000
      Displacement Mid-Level to 1.000
Not a single displacement happened just end up with a textured cube.
      End Result - ibb.co/JQJDBGL

I am using the latest update from blender as well as the 3.0.1 material converter. My shader nodes look nothing like this. No ubermapping node. Instead a mapping node is going to the 5 shader passes. Can some explain what node wrangler or settings I have wrong.

@@ridasaher4950 Yes, I solved the problem by updating the converter plugin. This gives you the option under "Import Mapping As" to select micro displacements and "UV+UBERMAPPING" once that new box was checked along with microdisplacements my materials now appear with the updated nodes and the displacements are finally working! I was dumb and just didnt do all the right updates/box checking

For those who having weird issues with their displacement. Subdivide ur mesh like 50 or whatever u like dont go over 100 .It would be too much then.Add a subdivision surface . then adjust displacement level as needed.

    • @ellypaws
      @ellypaws Před 2 lety

Better if you use adaptive subdivision like in the video's instructions so there's more subdivisions near the camera and less further, and mostly automatic
