  • Our video is a guided circular walk in the New Forest, Hampshire. Starting from Wootton Bridge we follow the Avon Water to Holmsley Old Station Tea Rooms then return via Wootton and Wootton Coppice Inclosure. This is an easy walk on forest footpaths/tracks and some tarmac road. Some of the paths may be quite boggy and muddy in wet weather especially during the winter. There are some gates and a narrow bridge.
Elevation: approx lowest point 27m (89ft) approx highest point 65m (212ft) approx ascent 56m (184ft).
Approx 5.75 miles allow 2 to 3 hours using OS Explorer Map OL22, New Forest. This walk is done anti-clockwise.
Start point: Wootton Bridge free car park.

Hi Andrea, thank you. We still have one more to come in the New Forest certainly not the best of our films but it does show a fascinating and laidback way of life. After this one we will be in the Peak District, walking the Roaches, where we are out in the open and in the hills which makes it a lot easier for us to film. All the best John and Janice

We enjoyed following your walk, especially the free range pigs. In our country (Germany) this is very rare. Nearly all of the pigs are crammed into large stables and never see the sunlight. That's why we stopped eating pork a few years ago except wild boar. Pigs are supposed to dig in the earth! Again, thank you for your video Harald and Astrid

Hi Harald we live in North Yorkshire where a large proportion of our pigs live outside in the fields in little pig huts. There's nothing better on a summer day driving along the road or walking through the fields to see the tiny piglets playing and running around free. In England at the moment there is a big effort by small farmers to rear rare breed pigs whos meat can be sold at the farm gate or the local farmers market. Not only has this saved a lot of rare breeds from extinction but has also helped produced much needed extra income for the farmers because the free range tastier and better flavoured meat can be sold at a premium price. We love watching and filming baby piglets because they are so cute and friendly. All the best The Taxi Driver

@@thetaxidriverj Dear "Taxi Driver", the first time we have ever seen a flock of pigs living free in a field was on the plain around the city of York. They came to the fence and we could even caress them. Next time we come to England we will try to buy the meat at the farmer's shop. Thank you for your information.
      Kind regards Harald and Astrid

Hi colm, thank you. It is very hard to film in the New Forest because it is very flat and in some areas there is a lack of landmarks. On the other hand it allows you to get close to the wild animals ponies, cows and donkeys that roam free all over the forest and it's especially fantastic when you see a foal being born in front of you. We hope to be back again. All the best The Taxi Driver
