I love MLS culture. It's a combination of Latin and European soccer supporting cultures alongside American football culture that is mashed into something all its own.
That’s the thing about the US. Embracing diversity in every way possible. Canada does it too as they have 3 mls clubs
Define "Latin" please
@@CCQ75 I think he means people from Latin America as he doesn’t want to say Mexicans as there is more than just Mexicans supporting MLS culture
@@edsonhdz4393 Well then he's WRONG! A Latin person is ANYONE whose mother language evolved from LATIN! This includes all Spanish, Portuguese, French, Rumania, and above all .. Italian speakers! Latin America is called "Latin America" because 2 of theses Latin languages are spoken here! That's why we are Latinos! But so are people from Spain, Portugal, France and Italy
@@CCQ75 “For example, a person from Spain would be Hispanic but not Latino because Spain is a Spanish-speaking country but not a Latin American country. A person who is Latino may also be Hispanic, or not”. Google is free love
Like mentioned, it’s a complete culture difference. You can be an away fan and enjoy the whole stadium etc etc without having to fear for your safety in any way. The atmosphere won’t ever reach the heights of many European teams but there is nothing wrong with that. We just do things differently here
When I was 12 coming up for 13
I went to Super Bowl XXX (30) with my Dad back in 1996.
We where supporting
Pittsburgh Steelers they where playing Dallas Cowboys.
Anyway Dallas Cowboys won & on the way out of The Stadium in Arazona we seen a Steelers fan had over a magnum bottle of Champagne to a Cowboys fan The Steelers fan had bought it to drink if
Steelers had won.
Now Pittsburgh Steelers &
Dallas Cowboys have the largest fanbases in The U.S.A in terms of Sports.
To put it in to context it's
Like Rangers & Celtic getting to a Champions League Final in the same season fanbase wise.
And Say Celtic win & a Rangers fan hands over a magnum of champagne inside the Stadium to a Celtic fan without cracking it over the Celtic fans Skull this would never happen.
But in America it would so different culture 100% a different culture.
Keep Safe..
Yeah. Can't ever see people rioting over the Whitecaps like they did over the Canucks in 2011. That's a good thing. I rather a smaller atmosphere than burning our town for nonsense.
I feel also it has to do partly with history. No MLS side has 100+ years of history like european clubs do. Give it 70 years the atmosphere might be better lol
Here in the U.S 'soccer' is just another sport cause we have sooo many popularized to choose from, whereas anywhere else in the world football is the only sport that essentially exists.
Totally agree
Does look a bit sanitised, in that they have taken what appears to work elsewhere and adopted it, but that is understandable when the clubs don't have 100 years of history from where songs, traditions and behaviours develop. Gotta be honest, I expected it to be more plastic and less authentic a match day, but 6 hour on the sauce pre match is behaviour I can approve of! Great video.
Mls is poo other American leagues better
Hahahaha. A lot of alcohol consumption just like at home!
Yoooo so glad you came back out to Orlando
The game is growing we have a lot of American fans who do not support an MLS team but do follow a European team exclusively. Now I will say MLS games and fans of the sport in the US are more inclusive and are a close community because it is still new to some. The animosity and anger is there in other leagues lol NHL and NFL you can catch a fight form time to time and fans going back and forth. There is more history and rivalry though in those leagues they MLS at this point. We do respect and genuinely love the game here. I'm 30 and my generation has grown up on the game and playing it. Yes we have other major sports but we still love soccer/football lol I know most of us during the EPL season will watch whatever team you follow in the EPL in the morning and NFL in the afternoon. We do love it and hope that love continues to grow in the US we aren't all bad here folks
Sure here in Ireland we get our football culture from what we see on TV so Americans are putting there own spin on it like we do here, then again American soccer might be different than here in Ireland because they get financial support unlike here in Ireland where our top flight team stadiums have the same quality of the lower levels of league 2 English clubs, but we're just as passionate if not more than anywhere else 😂
So ultras are a lot more common here because to even attend games is dedication
As an avid Orlando City fan I'm really glad that you've found the parts of our culture we're most proud of. We may not play the European way, but then, we are American, and we're proud of what we've started here. Thanks for keeping an open mind!
wtf is the 'european way'. every league has diversity in the way they build themsleves, and europe is a nebulous thing with western european football and other very different regions
Cringe
@@hawkinsstern5356we may not be as good.
@@hawkinsstern5356 It's the condescending vway where people bitch and moan about how American fans are cringey, lame, and/or embarrassing just because it's different.
you need to do a Timber vs Sounders game, holy hell it's intense. Those teams have been at it since, I think the 70s in the original NASL.
Best atmosphere!
that game is another level
Both fan bases do it right.
Northwest of USA has always been a Soccer/Football hotbed.
Toronto vs Columbus can get good too.
Looking at this... If my career ever took me to living in the US - and working for a major US corporation in Germany, I wouldn't rule it out - I feel like the nearest MLS team and it's fan base would a perfect starting point to meet great people, connect and fill your weekends with a bit of fun and joy. I've got to say this video really gave me a positive impression of MLS fan culture.
i love a few hours from orlando and i went to a game there a month ago and everyone there is so friendly and honestly a good place to meet people
yh ive been living in Montreal, only for 6 months, but been to a few montreal games and its been good. they have a group of serious fans behind one of the goals who drum and chant all game the rest of the stadium is more chilled but its definitely a better atmosphere than i was expecting
@@themadmeme sheesh in thinkin about going soon when they come back to play ny red bulls in semi finals
Fight & Win! C'mon Seattle! 😂
In all seriousness, great video. The toasting to the Queen part was a bit on the strange side for me though, same with the singing pre-match 🤪
Singing in pre match happens in every sport in north America
There are a lot of British ex-pats living and working in Orlando, I’ve taken a shot toasting the queen before, those are some funny dudes lol
That's Orlando, not Seattle
That club just won the concacaf champions league lmao
Seattle fans Abandoned that chant long ago. Check out there atmosphere in the recent North American champions League final. And btw there coming to next clubs world cup, you can check out there fans there
The Orlando fans looked superb! Would love to experience MLS one day. If those fans were English it’d be celebrated but because they’re American they get patronised and it’s seen as embarrassing. Really unfair if you ask me!
Well said... I'm a Yank but I don't even support the MLS...too old and I was already all in with Liverpool. (And to a lesser extent Celtic as my grandparents are all Irish)...I also admit that some things Yank fans, especially those from the South and Midwest do can be cringey. But they're having fun and keeping it friendly. It's growing and will only get better. A lot of English fans seem to forget, or not realize that up until the 1950s most English stadiums were very reserved. Post war immigrants from Italy and Ireland are the ones who really kicked off the tradition of taking popular melodies and adding player/team chants to them... sucks that so many British people love taking the piss out of Americans for no other reason than us being American... trust me there's plenty of stuff we shud be slaggged off for...but this ain't one of em.
@@sbakernyc5761 have you seen arsenal fan's TV that 100 percent pure cring most football fan are not class people by any means
MLS atmosphere is so underrated 90% of people who talk shit have never been to one
Premier League more shit
they cant even fill the entire stand
yet we still louder. ive been to prem games and live in orlando and its nothing like it. orlando is 10 times louder than the kop. plus this was a very empty game for orlando.@@orteniporten5364
Yup, The players might not be on the level but the vibes are second to none
@@orteniporten5364 Toronto FC sells 25K tickets a game and they plan on a couple thousand more seats, not bad considering most people in Canada couldn't name one professional football player if their life depended on it. lol
What is crazy is its VERY different from stadium to stadium, I will never forget going to my first away game and being blown away by the differences and how cool it was that each states culture really bleeds into its team and game day. Hope you get to try Atlanta, Seattle, RSL, LAFC all of which are so different and so fun!
Think of it this way, MLS may not have the history and traditions of other clubs around the world; but we have a UNIQUE opportunity to be a part of building the history and traditions
Much better atmosphere at MLS compared to our game. I was in total awe of the whole day experience. Can't wait to go back to Oralando City next year.
Soccer culture in America has a lot of Latino influence in terms of players and fans so it's no surprise why they sometimes chant in Spanish and have similar chants to the ones done in Latin America. Soccer is receiving massive growth in popularity especially among younger people, US soccer is on the rise!!
orlando specifcally is brazilian influenced and thats unique in USA since it is one of the most brazilian regions of the US
Yes. Latinos are the soccer scene. Good stuff
most mls in texas teams just use liga mx chants with lyrics slightly changed. They use chants from tigers, Veracruz, america, Tijuana, atlas, and Santos laguna.
also a lot of texas mls teams have players from liga mx teams on loan
Florida also has a large latino community.
I went to an Orlando game the first year they were in the MLS.. Ended up at a tail gate before hand, then spent the whole game with the Ultras.. One of the best experiences I've ever had at a football game 🦁
mls ultras? hahaahhaaaa
@@imEmops ur part of the problem lmfao
@@user-sb5py1os3f no calling yourself ultras because you play beer pong and rip of English chants is the problem 😂
@@indiekiddrugpatrol3117 nah, the original comment used the word ultras for lack of a better word. He meant 'supporters section' or something like that. I just don't like how anyone from outside the US finds anything to shit on within US soccer, thats the problem
@@user-sb5py1os3f I think MLS is decent but you've got to understand how funny and cringey your fake Ultras stuff looks to Europeans like you try and be Ultras whilst also being completely family friendly and it's just so strange to us considering we're used to Ultras that actually end other fans lives if they get the chance. I'm not saying your over commercialised version of Football is worse but it's just completely alien to the traditional working class culture we associate the game with here.
As an American I think we have an okay atmosphere, it can be a bit cringey sometimes but football is still in development here and hope it will keep growing. I really love the European atmosphere, I've been to the Emirates for Arsenal v. Chelsea and it was epic.
Definitely agree, it can be a real treat at times but moments like the anthem is really embarrassing
Then you need to see french League or italian, turkish and greece, there you Will feel the passion and how Intense Is the atmosphere premier league Is too sanitised

Amazing fans 😂😂😂
As someone who lived in America for 6 years I used to go to a Houston Dynamo matches, it is very different how everyone is just there for a good time rather than to hurl abuse at the opposition and be rowdy. It’s different but I think it’s really positive and a great day out.
Soccer in US is an event, in Europe it’s life. That’s the difference
Dynamo used to have a much better atmosphere before then tbh, when the team was initially stolen and super talented i particular
the dynamo stadium is located in a good area as well, right in the middle of downtown, but the team's performances havent't been as good in recent years
The dynamo FC (lol) have been a disgrace for the past decade
It seems a much more friendly fun atmosphere than at our games in England.Lovely Stadium as well.Really enjoyed video, hope you really enjoyed game.

Because England Is bad too, you have to come in Europe
@@lucaorso5744 England fans aren't that bad
@@jamesosa3482 Not really. In England we have Rugby and Cricket among other less popular sports. These sports are played all across the world whereas stuff like baseball and American Football is very limited outside of the US. You do have the NBA though, I'll give you that.
@@jamesosa3482 In uk we have snooker darts boxing which is massive bare knuckle swimming but who tf watches that we have cricket rugby basketball is here as well u lot literally come over to use our football stadiums for some of ur matches as well u lot jus have a lot of college or high school team
Genuinely love this video.
As a uk based MLS fan I’ve been an advocate for the league for considerable time when I hear stereotypical British based vans mocking it.
The league continues to get stronger and stronger. I first started watching the MLS when Toronto joined but only because two players from my English side Norwich where I have a season ticket joined them and I was intrigued.
I’ve supported Seattle since their incarnation all because of a Football Manager save I did many years ago. I LOVE how game day isn’t just 90 minutes and leave early to beat the traffic like it is for so many in the uk, it’s an all day event in the states. Me and my friends love Norwich but we don’t go for the football (we ain’t that mad lol) we make a day of it. Just like in this video. Love that side of it. Love my American sports anyway but love this side of it.
Sadly too many muppets ruin the football experience in the uk for us to ever be able to experience game like they do in the USA. One day maybe.
Would love to see you visit more mls teams. Seattle especially, nothing tops it.
Shows what you know of football liking MLS and Norwich absolutely tragic mate😅

As a Leicester boi really happy to see Christian Fuchs still going strong and also slightly amazed to see him taking penalties?! He was never much of a goal threat at Leicester and can only remember him scoring once?! I guess he must be captain but all same possibly questions the teams quality and depth!
Up the foxes!
I was surprised he was on the pen as well. We have other players who I believe are far better at it but perhaps they just went with the most experienced.
Charlotte being an expansion team has an extremely thin and inexperienced squad so he probably is the most technical player there, even at his old age
tbf he took all manners of set pieces at Schalke.
also he has been a terrible liability this year for Charlotte. Last year he was signed but the team didnt exist so they loaned him to a 2nd division side in the same city

I must say that I am very impressed! The stadium looks modern and high quality and the fans make a good atmosphere. I didn't expect it to be like this, to be honest. It doesn't feel plastic at all.
The atmosphere seems very friendly and positive. This is a place where I would go with my family without hesitation. And that's not always the case in Europe, unfortunately. The video made me realize how embarrassingly serious we take soccer in Europe at times.
As you said: Football has to be fun. And MLS looks like a lot of fun. Good job Americans!
Shiver me timbers it’s the Orlando ultras 🥶🥶
just a little disclaimer you did come to the most "docile" possible game against a brand new team that has no tension or most casual fans wouldn't go out to watch this game . matches against bigger teams or rivals are way more packed and tense
I can get on board with all of this, except the queen bollocks haha. Fair play they seem like they are having a great time

Now Ellis that was one of your best and most interesting videos. Really like how the Americans celebrate their day out at a game of football. Back in the 80s i lived in Gibralter for a couple of years, and used to drive up to Malaga to watch top spanish football. The game was celebrated similar to there. We arrived 4 or 5 hours before KO, and just enjoyed the atmosphere in the sun before the evening game. It was too hot to play in the afternoon then. The food and drink was wonderful, with Tapas on stalls everywhere. The game really was an anticlimax in some ways, because one had spent so much time on the event. One could see that in Orlando the game was a day event, and the people went home happy and probably very tired. Trouble is that wouldnt happen in europe because of the fan animosity towards one another. Also, over here no one looses happily. Really enjoyed this eye opener into MLS soccer..Dave in Berlin
I was at that game yesterday, so glad you were able to see a win
Loved the video, been watching quite a bit on MLS fan culture and having adopted Seattle Sounders I'd love to be attending the CCL Final at Lumen Field on Wednesday but as that's not going to happen I'd settle for a Cascadia Derby against Portland Timbers.
I'm an NYC FC fan and the two games I've been to really have been incredible. The fans chant in both English and Spanish, and the whole vibe reminds me why I love my city in the first place. It's diverse, it's full of energy, it's inclusive, it's welcoming, and it rallies no matter what (which helps, given we lost to Cincinnati in the first game I saw and drew with Charlotte at the second). It's one thing to watch fans abroad cheering for their teams, and it's another to actually be a part of it and feel that pride. Hope you get more chances to see games across the pond! Try to catch a game in our second division (USL) as well, they have amazing fans too!
The atmosphere coming from that terrace behind the goal was impressive!
Glad you enjoyed the match, it’s a beautiful stadium, we’d love to have you again when you’re in town
This looks awesome, the 6 hours before appeals, and the drinking.Starting to like the MLS
Look at American college football, Most of there teams have fans show up to their home games like 8 hours before the game starts it's crazy.
@@tcbobb1613 That sounds great to me mate 👍
As an American fan this is awesome. Love that we are slowly getting away from faux euro cringe into doing our own thing.
We need to get you to a Columbus Crew game here in the US. Not only are they defending MLS Cup Champs, but the atmosphere at the games is INSANE. Way better than what you saw in this video in Orlando.
I've been to a few Orlando city games and I had so much fun! Especially watching it in the supporters section. The experience is amazing!
It's so interesting to see what football culture is like in America, everything just seems to be on such a bigger scale.
It's just less passionate and more commercialised.
I definitely wouldn’t say it’s on a bigger scale but it’s getting better every year but in England every game at the top tier of football is a sell out where as in mls games a lot of the time the stadium is patchy.
@@kyranjamieson2401 the average attendance and viewership has been rising at a substantial rate for like 7 straight years so eventually I believe sellouts will become more common
I’m American and started following the MLS this season but was hesitant cuz it’s always getting shitted on for the product on the field. Went to my first game this season which was the Red Bulls(yes I know they “don’t have real fans” but I’m in NJ). I quickly fell in love with it and I was shocked by the amount of soccer we have and it’s only growing. Definitely have been trying to get more ppl to follow as well but like he said the ratio of fans in small in comparison to out population but by pure numbers we still have a vast amount of fans.
you should comes a day into a big european match, forgot england because they are overated
I’m happy that you came over for a match atmosphere may not be like Europe but we are trying. Just need more people to support local
Really enjoyed the video and the insight! I for one would love to attend an MLS game!
