VOLKSWAGEN RABBIT FAULTY ABS MODULE AND USED REPLACEMENT
Vložit

- Hey everyone! In todays video we take a look at a 2007 Volkswagen Rabbit w/ a 2.5l engine. Some of you may remember, I made a video with this car about 2 years ago. The customers complaint was that the speedometer did not work and the instrument cluster had several warning lights illuminated. In that video we found that the vehicle had a faulty ABS module however because of the cost of a replacement module, the owner did not want to replace it. So the car sat for almost 2 years before he finally decided to have me fix it. So in this video we attempt to repair the original module and we also answer the question "can we program a used ABS module on this VW"?

To be a good mechanic its 10 % wrenching...90 % use of brainpower....You sir are fenomenal ..keep up the good work...Hello from Sweden 🤗🤗🤗
Eric I know you have to do what’s good for your family. However I have missed your videos very much and always look forward to the next one! I have learned so much from you and I am a semi retired technician. I actually worked as a mechanic in the 1980s and most of the cars that I would see were from the 70s I have spent the last seven years learning from you and Oz! Thank you guys so much for sharing your knowledge and God bless your families!
I love that ability to set up communication with the scan tool on the bench.
This video is gold. Much appreciated for sharing.VW dealer wants $2400 for a new ABS module and $8500 to do the repair altogether.
I look forward to your videos. I’m a mechanic myself and I learn so much from watching your content. Thank you for all the information you share with us.
You can't imagine my happiness when I see a new video pops up from you. You have been missed. I'm happy you're back.
Never saw an ABS module change it's own VIN code. Very interesting. But then, I've never repaired a European ABS system.
Thanks for the video.
Chrysler/ dodge/ fiat does. Will explain that on the second part of the fiat video
@@OzMechanics Is this common for European vehicles? How about Asian vehicles?
@@mikechiodetti4482 The VW MK5 chassis pulls the vin and security from the cluster itself.
@@kbaisley4947I have a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta with 2.0TSI. Currently battling with ABS pump/module no communication fault codes. If I get an ABS module/pump from the junk yard that matches the same part number, will it be plug and play like this example??? I have an OBDeleven scan tool but I’m not sure how to pull the coding off the old abs module and put it into the donor module.
@@ivanvega2821 from what I remember, it should be plug and play. I believe this video covered that if I remember right. Have not watched it since I made the comment. As far as a scanner, you need vcds if you stick with vw products. It's the only one that works the best
Air bag light is most likely related to the airbag connectors at the seats. It's a known problem on the MK5 Chassis. (High Resistance - there use to be a campaign to fix this back in the day) Sometimes a disconnect and spray with Deoxit will resolve, sometimes you'll have to install a new connector. VW Vortex or similar forums will have the info. Great content and I appreciate your effort to share knowledge with others.
As always your videos are always enlightening to the auto electricians
It's always a good day when there's a new ALA video 👌🏽
Amazing work, you learned something and you do it very well sir and the fact that you share it with others that's just awesome
You lucked out on so many levels! I found this to be very educational, actually.
Great video Eric. Learned lots of information, and very entertaining. Thanks for putting out the videos.
With vw whenever the battery is disconnected on reconnection the steering and traction control come on. Driving makes it all reset. Thank for great vid.
thank you for letting us in on your diagnosing adventures
Dang taking to the next level with the the module split, impressive 👍🏻
Awesome case study. Thanks for the time you took to teach and share. 👍👍
Eric you have been missed. Hope all is well with you and family. Nice see you challenging the electronics side of the car. I have also embarked down that path just for my own knowledge. I like that go diag . Hope you listed it under the video details. Thanks for sharing 👍 Artie
I'm learning more and more everday about this stuff. I hope to share it with everyone. Thanks for watching!
Welcome back! Your videos are awesome! Thank you!
Appreciate the way you explain this man as far as testing com and testing the mosfets super easy to grasp the concept thanks
This is the best notification I've had from CZcams in quite a while!
Hi Eric you´ve been missing for a few months now and you came back with this fine piece!!!...Great video!!!...Greetings from Venezuela!!!
Thanks for the video. Managed to get an ABS module the exact same code as my original module (been slowly looking for about a year). Had my mechanic install it similar to your video instructions. It worked out well with little fiddling required. 😀
Hey Eric, good to see you back online :)
It feels good to be back
Excellent diagnostic and explanation. Very interesting that the Vin number was read by the ABS unit saves a big headache really well presented. Thank you.
Brilliant case study , I learned a lot! Very impressed by your in depth troubleshooting and diagram insets of the schematics.
Thank you ,Eric for your videos 🎉🎉
You are very thorough.
Learnt a lot from this video.
Thank you
Wow really great video, Thank you! Great information on how to test transistors.
9:20 +1 for the Shiner beer glass!!! God bless, Eric!!!
Next level content, Bro! Goin way into the angry pixies on this one. Good stuff.
Just WOW. Great vid. Great work.
Thank you for this video. Much appreciated
If you supply required voltage to module while bench testing and look closely with thermal imager you will see shorted component heating up.
Or you can also put a few drops of isopropyl alcohol on the suspect component, and if it starts evaporating quickly, well then there is your problem !
I thought for sure the no comm on the bench was going to be because the scan tool was looking to talk to the abs module through the gateway (which was missing on the bench.) Thanks for showing us the process of coding and getting an old car back on the road!
Thanks for the good info, I really appreciate it
Super instructional video. God bless u sirre. Your blessed
Good to see you back online brother
Nice video, thanks. I'd love to see a component level repair but still learned a lot.
awesome video, great content, good job man , thanks
Really nice work appreciate the video
Really cool video Eric, thanks!!
Welcome back ! Great video!
Too cool. Awesome tutorial.
Can you test the original module with your desktop set up now that you connected the correct pins? just curious if you soldering fixed the issue. Thanks!
That Launch Pad V is on my wish list👍 Glad your back. We missed you buddy😁
Make sure you buy the version with the "Smart Link" not the "Smart Box". The Smart Box is no longer supported by Launch.
Dope Video we need more of these!
i have the same scan tool awesome video thanks for posting
Thanks for videos your amazing teacher on diagnostic the boss
What I thought was funny is when I changed my abs module on my 2006 f150 , I put a used one in and funny thing, it worked perfectly, I scanned it with Forscan and the only error I had was a vin # mismatch. But it worked perfectly.
If you have Forscan you can do the "As Built Data" on the ABS module.
@@ADVANCEDLEVELAUTO yeah, I know, but I thought it was cool that the vehicle just accepted the information that the module was sending it even though it wasn’t programmed correctly
“Guy hit with a dodgeball light”……OMG that is priceless!
Very helpful ❤
Thanks or the video man, very informative.
Great video Eric.thanks for sharing
FANtastic vid.......THANKS!!!!!!!
Excellent job
Bro, you almost had me with that 95% biodegradable engine comment… great content as always man. Have a much better understanding of troubleshooting cuz of your videos. Gracias amigo!
All I saw was plastic when I opened the hood lol!
😂😂😂
Outstanding video, bro.
All great except I'd have really liked to have seen the old module back on the scan tool after you discovered your miswiring just to double check it after your repairs to it...
Yeah, I did not think of doing that at the time. I still had a lot of other repairs to do on the car so I kind of just moved on after replacing the module. Thanks for watching!
@@ADVANCEDLEVELAUTO Don't blame you for that at all,,, it just would have been interesting..
Another great vid keep them coming 150k subs here we come 👌
Great video.
Wow.. you're an impressive human.
Interesting video Thanks
Very good eric 👍👍👍. All good for you from germany.
You did it again Erik , 👍
awesome . thanks for the video
great job!!!
Yes. Changing the vin on the bench is posible. Great video
wtf bro talk about Indepth diagnostics good job never thought i would test a transistor or mosfet master tech status bro !!!!!
Good job eria glad you are back working them over your pal. Sam
Great content brother.
Great one
Thank you
Brilliant video man🤘🤘🤘
Oh damn, Eric is back
Its about time you are back
Thanks for sharing
Good video. I’m having a similar issue with my Passat
You're the best brother
2 words; LOVE IT
Welcome back man
It’s good to be back
Good to see you bro I have missed you
Same here! Thanks for watching!
The quality of this channel is amazing! So much to learn from watching your videos. Question, where did the coding information get sourced from? Did you need to have a VW service subscription or does launch have the information on their servers? Also, would your older launch be able to code like that?
Thanks for you vidéo 👍
I love it!
Good job
sweet vid !!!!
Great vidio
Thank you 👍👍👍👍
7:00 subwoofer going absolutely apeshit!!! LOL! Great vid, good sir!!!
Haha! I turned the volume down on the music parts during editing, but it seems like it's still pretty loud when I play it back.
WATCHING FROM NEW ZEALAND BRO
Nice real nice. Also can you try to do the other module see if it works maybe the pin 20 was crossed and maybe just maybe it works now...
Your long term followers seeing you've uploaded a new video after months of silence
" It's been 84 years 😢"
Best content ❤
good video tks
Nice job bro!
Thanks for the visit
Thank YOU!😁
good stuff
Originally when the Tier 1 automotive module suppliers (mainly from Germany) wanted to do press fit connector pin attach style, the story was the technique would only be used on low cost non-critical control modules like HVAC or Radio, etc. Well, obviously this no longer holds true, and the technique of the pressed fit pins for many lead OEM engineers, required the pins be soldered for critical systems from the supplier. So, somehow this particular module did not have an experienced systems engineer on the component qualification.
The first step is to verify the module power supply is working. The Schottky Diode is most likely used for Reverse Battery protection on the front end of the supply. You can check the diode when it is in circuit live, if drawing current you should see a voltage drop. Doing diode continuity test in circuit is not advisable. Then the next step is to determine the power supply topology and what voltage rails should be present. For the microcontroller you can find the pinout online, and confirm you have the proper supply voltages at the IC.
Any power MOSFETs that are not part of the CAN interface should be saved for last. If the MOSFET is used in the supply than it should be checked. From looking at the PCB, to make CAN work, you only really need the microcontroller powerup and the CAN interface IC operational.
Bro I was missing you !
