    The D50 is the sweet spot for me, auto focus motor, SD cards and just really affordable. I love mine, takes awesome pics. Coming from an F80 everything feels so familiar. I just love it.

    I have this camera since 2008. Really like the saturated look of the CCD. And 1 autofocus point is all you need basically if you do focus, recompose. I even do that with my newer cameras like my D750.
    D60’s lack in dynamic range will force you to think about light conditions. It is not forgiving in post processing; what you see is what you get. ISO is only usable up until about 800. After that the picture starts to break apart.
    But with good light conditions, it will hold its own against 15 year younger cameras. DX format is still a big sensor by todays standards and you can’t beat physical sensor size with a big lens with a lot of surface area for light to hit on.

    Great video. I bought a D60 back in 2008 and haven't really used it for years, your video has inspired me to dust it off and start taking pictures again. I always thought the pictures the D60 produced were really nice, but fell in to the trap of thinking new is always better. Maybe I don't need a new camera after all!

    You forgot the D3000. I have had the D3000 for over a decade. Solid camera. Still works. 10MP CCD sensor with 11 AF points.

      @@steve_heise it would be great if you review the D3000, it's the last CCD Nikon and works wonderfully

  • @jorgeivanmerchanmayorga4413

    I recently bought this one as my first camera with a 55-200mm lens. And it gives amazing colors, looking the photos in the screen from the camera doesn't show the actual quality you end up with. With a good lens and good light you end up with really nice pics (it suffers in lowlight so I'll probably will buy a speedlight)

    Great Video, i own on D40/35mm1.8G and I considered my most basic camera, I've got it just because I was curious on how it was to shoot with this type of cameras, and the results that I got are amazing, and now is my favorite camera to travel, even that I have some fuji's, sony's and canon mirrorless cameras, for some reason the size and the way it feels still pretty nice to me !!

    I have the D40x which was my second DSLR, I was upgrading from the Canon 6mp silver plastic DSLR at the time, so build wise, this was a step up. I was mostly shooting P or automatic at the time, I didn't care to learn much, just the notion I have one of these. But looking at my pictures at the time, these did a great job at auto. I've given my D40x to my sister as a gift years later, as I upgraded to the D7000, but now looking at these for collection.

    All very true. Good video. D40 and D60 models can’t autofocus some older AF lenses, like the 50mm f/1.8D. But apart from that, I think it’s down to which one you just like the feel of. Keep these videos coming. Always interesting and worth watching.

    This video is so well timed for me, I JUST bought this body and lens combo as I've been on a bit of a ccd kick as of late. I still slightly prefer the sensor on my Olympus e-500, but the d60 is a better camera for sure.

    hey there! just jumping in to add to the list of cheap Nikons the D80
    it's basically the perfect middle between the D200 and the D60, having the internal focus motor, faster framerate and better ergonomics and buttons, but no AI ring, no magnesium alloy body of the D200

    Having been somewhat priced out of shooting film I’ve been gravitating toward these older ccd cameras. Recently picked up a Sony a200 with kit lens for $10 and the colors are the very nice. Do you know which of these cams (if any) used the same sensor? The Sony also happens to be 10.1 megapixels…..

    • @jrcerts
      @jrcerts Před rokem +2

      Yeah, I think this (d60) , the d200 the a100/200, and the K10D all use the same 10.2mp CCD.
      I think the D200 has the best AF of the 10.2mp CCD cameras.

    • @steve_heise
      @steve_heise  Před rokem +2

      Yeah, I can definitely confirm that the Sony A100 and A200 both use the same sensor as the Nikon D200. And as someone who has a Sony A200 and Nikon D200, they do have a similar quality to the images.

      There’s a few out there close to $30…then they want another $30 in shipping. Lol Patience is your best weapon on eBay. I snagged a D200 for $60 + tax and $14 shipping. I usually search and then do cheapest buy it now with shipping. If I can’t find what I want there I go to auctions ending soonest. Or low ball a couple sellers who listed a best offer option. Lol
