I grew up there as a kid in early 2000s went to the elementary school and 6th grade at the middle school before moving to Oklahoma. Neat seeing so much change and some things haven’t. I do miss seeing the Kellys grocery store, I went there a lot with my folks!
The largest housing development in this town is called Hammock Bay and you actually passed the entrance to it at the end of the Choctaw beach video. Just that one development alone has 4,000 people living in it and it’s constantly having new neighborhoods and apartments going in. There’s also a lot of smaller developments along 331 south of 20. And that big gas station is actually called Cefco. There’s a lot of them in this part of the state, especially in Okaloosa and Walton counties. They’re very nice as well. There’s a cefco in Defuniak near my neighborhood as well.
@@adamweber1790 My sister loves everything about the Destin area except the traffic on US 98. She lived in Freeport from 2012 to 2016 when it was very rural. Unless you drive on SR 20 and pay a toll, US 98 is required to get to Destin.
This town isn’t as backwards as millbrook Alabama. Although it kinda depends. If you move to one of the newer housing developments you shouldn’t have a problem but I wouldn’t recommend the older neighborhoods in the town center or most of black creek road
They’re actually considering building a Publix in Defuniak Springs. They’re building a large development on 331 in Defuniak south of I10 for war veterans. Defuniak is the next town up from Freeport and I think it’s about to start growing really fast like Freeport and much of the panhandle
Like Freeport DeFuniak got four grocery stores big box stores motels it's a full-service city with it's own Police and fire departments something Freeport don't have!!!!

I used to live there 😔 I miss it…

Tell em Leo
My sister lived here for a few years before the Publix, McDonald's, Burger King, etc. opened. Now she lives in Santa Rosa Beach.
we are thinking of moving to freeport, what was her opinion of living here? we dont want to be in destin but fairly close to some of the nice beaches

trailer park town-my parents were at their worse here imo, nice elementary school if you lived there in the early 2000's though.

Bad phone signal? You must have AT&T...lol
Panhandle 😬
North Florida sucks-. Country. Tampa to Miami the real Florida
It’s all a matter of perspective, my dear. In NORTHWEST Florida, we love our “country” life.
“Country life” = drunk guy vs very drunk guy 😅👌
Oh gosh. Eh, maybe in some spots.
Doesn’t look terrible, just doesn’t look like Florida
Yeah I think I’ll take country over big city, high crime any day
