In the united states if you were born 1998 or later if you dont know the lyrics to this you've lived under a rock you're whole life. Trust me on this one.
@@kennard3106 Yeah, bro. What is this guy on about? I was born in 1998 and I can assure you that I wouldn't have known SHIT about Pokemon if it had not been for my Uncles and even my Mom playing it. My first game was Ruby and I was still too young to even know what was going on. Even then, there weren't many people my age I knew that played it until around Emerald and Diamond/Pearl came out later. The stories I heard later were that Pokemon was a CRAZE. The first movie in theaters and every kid playing it. 1998? I couldn't have remembered or have been there for any of that. At most, we had a Bakugan craze when I was in 5th grade and we all had a Nintendo DS, but we sure as hell weren't all trading. We were in pictochat on the bus exclusively on long field trips and maybe a few of us were big on the legendaries.. using Action Replays.
Japanese people may sound it weird listening to english version but to us it's a legendary childhood memory i could ever felt listening to that song "you teach me and i teach you PO-KE-MOOON, gotta catch em all, gotta catch em a-a-all POKEMON" 🇵🇭 I remember being ash ketchum by just wearing a cap i felt like master trainer...
@@JohnSmithsu2006 i kinda get the japanese intro stuck in my head. I grown up with the swedish dubbed one. Its same intro as the english one but in swedish. But the japanese i just thought holy shit what good intro. So different from the one i watch. Kinda backwards intro in japan
I went to collect a con this year in my hometown and met Jason Paige he was so chill, very friendly great guy. Got his autograph and he let us take the pic with him FOC. I have mad respect for voice act who clearly deserve higher pay given how the can play multiple characters at once
If you haven't heard this song, then you've been living under a rock for the past 25 years. Dang, I'm old. This is the song that most people the world over associate with the Pokémon franchise. People hear it & immediately recognize it, even if they don't know the lyrics or don't really know much about Pokémon in general. It's legendary.
Swedish uses pretty much the same song, but with slightly different lyrics. I'd say it's actually equally good if you know the language. But yeah, I still prefer the original English version of it(yes, I know the Japanese song ofc came first for the visuals. But it's not even remotely the same song).
I had the opposite reaction to the original Japanese. The Japanese version doesn't get you excited or fired up. And sadly it's a bit too much like literally any other generic anime opening. The English version is ICONIC. that being said, most countries have their own versions based on the English one.
As a 16 year old American, I grew up with Pokemon Indigo League, I watched it when I was 4, and the intro never left my head after all these years, I know the lyrics for the extended version of Gotta Catch 'Em All too! I also know most of the Pokérap and the Team Rocket intro. It was in my head for 12 years, never forgot it... Pokemon is my childhood!
Nice reaction! Although, the video you watched was the right music, the video was just a slideshow of pictures and wasn’t the actual op video. (Plus it was the longer version of the song)
I love how you came around to it in the end! Definitely can be tough to appreciate foreign experiences, glad you liked something we’re all so fond of. Makes me think we should give the Japanese version a listen too, who says we can’t appreciate both?
You also have to understand that this was released in the 90s, when this kind of music was popular, so combine that with the nostalgia and it becomes the best pokemon opening of all time !!
Kinda awkward that you picked an fanmade AMV rather the actual video. Well at least its full version instead the of the short tv version. Unfortunately you picked such a crowded place you could barely hear.
Funnily enough, the singer for the US dub opener has translated the US opener into Japanese... czcams.com/video/PIetiD0G6vQ/video.html&ab_channel=JasonPaige The guy is _AWESOME._
I recommend you look for the Jason Paige studio version. He is who performs the English version of the theme song, and it is longer and has more music than what was shown in the opening of the show.
I long wished that a season or movie would have a cover of this as an OP, ED or insert song. It's definitely a great beat, and with a good cover and good translation, I'm betting it'd be as popular in Japan as it is here. Seriously, there's more than a few that consider it one of the catchiest anime songs out there, and if you start singing it at a convention or something you can be sure at least one person is GOING to join in.
The hell put that english intro up? Watch the actual English intro, watching this version makes a bad first impression and ruined your reaction to the English version of Pokémon
I have always thought that the original language(Japanese) is the best version of every anime, there were only 2 exceptions the Pokemon English song and Goku voice in English and Spanish(Latino) dub
This has probably already been shared to you two many times, but that video was NOT the opening animation to the English (or any) translation/localisation!!! czcams.com/video/rg6CiPI6h2g/video.html (uses the original opening, just cut up and moved around; it's followed by other random scenes, as it's the long version)
the background noise levels are just way too high, i had trouble understanding what you said and even the instruments in the songs......try to apply some sort of filters....or film in less noisy places. i was really interested in hearing this. but the background noise was just too loud.
The English theme song for a Japanese anime series that defined a generation. I'm not just saying that because I cosplay Gen 6 Ash and I'm presently working on a Gen 8 Ash costume, but as a fan since the 90s.
In the year 2000 I was 5 years old and my brother was 10 and all we new how to do is Pokémon I was charmender the year before in preschool on Halloween 1999 that’s how big Pokémon was😂
Most countries took the English version and translated it to their own language, so that shows how great it was.
In Brazil is the same USA version but in portuguese 😊 I love both
Pokemon's CZcams channel has a video where it cycles through all the other versions.
In the united states if you were born 1998 or later if you dont know the lyrics to this you've lived under a rock you're whole life. Trust me on this one.
1998? More like 1988. I was born in 86 and I was 12 when Pokemon hit the peak in the US
@@haku8645 I thought the anime in America was released in September 1998 in the states?
