Lots of fans may not understand how important Fernando was to the Dodgers beyond just his performances on the mound. It might be hard to imagine today, but prior to Fernando, LA's Latino community had not fully embraced the Dodgers, because their move to LA resulted in the demolition of multiple homes in Chavez Ravine in order to build Dodger Stadium. Those were homes with large Latino populations, and as a result, the Dodgers and LA's Latino community got off on the wrong foot. Fernando changed all that; in one decade, he'd help cement mass Latino devotion to the Dodgers.

When I was a young teenager playing high school ball in 1981 I idolized Fernando when he pitched for the dodgers.

The Dodgers were dominant in the 70's and 80's when i was a young boy playing little league and babe ruth baseball. But my favorite team was the Oakland A's. Reggie Jackson and Ricky Henderson were my heros since i also played in the outfield on my high school teams. I had a Reggie Jackson signature model rawlings glove.

The announcer just said, the pitcher already made his maximum pitch limit amount. That’s the difference in how much this game has changed. There was no maximum pitch limit amount in 1976. If you were throwing strikes and getting batters out, you could pitch straight thru to 9 innings. Now, they have 9 separate pitchers pitching each of their respective innings. Everything has changed with this game, even the attendance level has changed. Take a look at how many empty seats there are on a typical seasonal game.
