I believe there are only about a dozen copies of "people." That means you're correct. IMO a minimum of 20% of people dig Clapton/this song. The rest require more time.
Funny story years ago I was picking up my daughter Kennedy at the daycare. One of the ladies asked me if I like Eric Clapton’s music and I answered yes, then asked her how she knew. She said the babies were about to go to sleep and the song Layla came on . My daughter jumped up and said ‘ that’s daddy’s song by Eric Slow Hand ‘..lol. She was like 27 months old and I was so proud.
My old love is fighting for his life after a traffic accident. He is in a coma. 461 ocean boulevard was .. our album. You are always in my heart Gerry. I m sending you all my love.
I've commented before here....had to again. Ive since lost my man who I dearly loved for over 35 years. I play this full blast.... again and again! I will never get over.... thank you Mr Clapton!
Glad to see people in the comments section complimenting Clapton's vocals. I have always said this to my friends and musician peers for several years - Eric is a very underrated singer. He is no Paul Rodgers or Freddie Mercury, but he sings like he means his lyrics, and he rarely sings out of tune live.
That keyboard solo really encapsulates the feeling of a broken love. The panging, raw and confused emotions of a relationship gone too soon. Mixed and odd, unfamiliar before building into a brilliant and defiant flame, angered even that one had not seen old love as an opportunity to move on. I'm 22 but wish I'd found this golden music earlier
Just discovered this, through a reaction video of all things. My gosh, this is why I have loved Eric Clapton since I first heard him when I was 17 in 1970. The feeling in this solo is spell binding. His solos are always so melodic and he is able to wring true beauty out of that guitar. Clapton will always be my first choice of guitar players to listen to.
Definitely one of the best songs ever written, IMO. I loved learning it from the unplugged performance; every other version is equally beautiful. We wrote another verse to extend the tune after the first solo - nothing detracting just substituted “I can see your face” for “I can hear your voice”. The song was always over too soon for us (me, lol) otherwise. Mr. C, we play a lot of your songs (I insist when they make me - the drummer - sing). We often play the ending of the original Layla to end the night (we’re just a three piece and do it with just keys, bass and drums). You should come to the Dusk til Dawn Blues Festival at the Oklahoma Blues Hall of Fame in Rentiesville, OK. You’d love it - lots of great blues players and bands from all over the country and the world. Labor Day weekend.
Saw him in the Macon Coliseum (Ga.)he had broke his leg and he played the night sitting on a stool, played a great concert, we left the concert and turned on the radio headed back home to learned that the Lynyrd Skynyrd band's plane crashed, bummed out a great night with EC.
I’m 59, I’ve been listening to him since his Cream Days. I lost the love of my life. My wife 6 years ago. The words of this song for me. Express what I’ve gone through, and my utter frustration. His voice the tight tight band. And when is the last time you saw a man getting a standing ovation in the middle of his solo. Then Tim Common just kills that electric piano. Ty Eric 😎✌️❤️
Randomly met this gorgeous girl and we started talking about music...dug into my Clapton memories went through the list of every thing. Then this beautiful soul took me by the hand isolated us and showed me this version of Old Love...When I say I've never been the same since I mean it, had the best time of my life leading up to that and afterwards. Wake the next morning to never see this girl again and that's when this song hit me...hit me real hard.
I saw him play doctor John's guitar players Les Paul he opened a new door I never new excisted he was shredding licks I never heard before his sound was immense I've never seen five hundred people cry at once before doctor John's band we're the best I've ever seen live or recorded we invited a large group of beautiful women to sit on our comforter the biggest one I have ever seen brand new we swiped it from his mom closet for the show we had to carry it for about an hour and a half to get to the camp grounds it was very heavy but worth it the finest wemen.in Malibu CA forgot to bring something to sit on for the show I went over to them and invited them to join us thayyy went crazy I asked my best friend John to please get the lady's some fudge pop sickles for the show and thayyy we're so happy Mr Clapton was laying down on his side with a base ball hat on five feet in front of us when he was called to the stage he got up and went to the stage and blew our minds
Aside from the fact this song just reminds me of an old love ive been unable to replace and it feels like a scab being torn off every time i hear it, and once you hear it it can never be unheard. Eric is a master at writing songs that are beautiful "wonderful tonight" from Slowhand, as well as rock music that will live forever. His live shows like here he lets members of his band take the spotlight and shine without hesitation. Anyone he has in his band are class A musicians in their own right.
its 2021 February 09 ...Was gonna start a new day ...work, coffee, morning smokes.... a very cold morning up north in Toronto and everything changes suddenly I cant believe i have never watched/listened to this immortal magnificence from Sir CLAPTON and Sir CARMON (!) ALL HAILS TO THE KIINGS ... my guitar bows to these two legends Thanks for making me feel alive.
See Eric Clapton showed his guitar skills and experience when he Captured the INSPIRATION going smoothly with the lyrics. And he's really SUPERB when the Scaling went beyond the guitar bar where no others guitarist can do it.
Tim Carmon is great and you can tell Eric appreciates his talent too. Eric is great and he picks great people to play with him. As I've said before I'm 72 and Eric Clapton has given me a new reason to live. He's still going at my age and doing a great job, too. Just love the guy. Wish I could tell him so he knew how much he means to so many people.
+numv2 He knows what he is doing, it being flat or not doesn't matter. It sounds good and it was a difficult bend to land, and add to that the fact that this is a live performance. Let's just enjoy shall we ?

I miss SRV these guys kind of fill that gap for me. I feel like Mayer is the only modern player that gets blues playing like Clapton and SRV did. His renditions of classic Hendrix songs are so awesome. Mayer and Clapton are the best.

been watching all eric clapton youtube stuff. he's really gotten better as he aged. hope he's got another 20 years in him. we're the same age and i'm just finding him. been watching for 3 months now. he makes me want to get up in the morning. and tim carmon what talent! love everything he does. been trying to find more he's on but can't find anything.
Ive watch this over 40 times in recent years .... STILL can feel the CHILL up and down my spine .... AMAZING talents ..... ALL of them ... Especially Tim Carmen on Keyboards
Simply the best all around guitar player of all time. GOAT!! Who else plays this clean and clear at almost any kind of music. He does it all with perfection. Get rid of those cheating whammy bars and synthetic static sounding guitar and guitar players all together. Just give me the sound of a plain electric guitar. BB King wasn't lying.
blues guitar players and singer have something that is irritating after some hour of listening to them but eric has the magic of not repeating himself or getting bored. he doesnt play the exact same and he feels it every time. his improvisation is out of this world!!
When he says “and it makes me feel so angry” 🤯. I have never been in love so I can not relate, but while listening to this song I feel nostalgic and heartbroken. I love Clapton and his music. He really knows how to touch listeners soul. If he’s not the 🐐 I do not know who is.
I believe that somewhere in the world, there are people who feel the same emotions that I feel when I listen to masterpieces like this song.
Yes, like you, am deeply touched by eric's masterpiece, so to speak.
Yes! Thank you for those words 1:29
Me, for one.
I believe there are only about a dozen copies of "people."
That means you're correct. IMO a minimum of 20% of people dig Clapton/this song. The rest require more time.
Just about everyone that listens to Claptons video's feel the same emotions from his playing.
That solo is probably the best thing I've ever heard in my entire life.
A commercial in the middle of this masterpiece. Criminal
You know there's something special about a song when it makes you cry.
69 years old, still can’t get enough of “ slow hand” when my time comes let there be Clapton, prince, Jimi, Janice showing me the way !
Layla is still my favorite
Amen
Cocker, Santana, James Brown, Elvis, Gery Moore, Prince, SRV, Tina Turner, Aretha, B.B, Senad O, Amy, Littel Richard, Peter Green, Eddi, Meat Loaf, Vangelis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Beck , Crosby, Belafonte...R.I.P

Dear Eric Clapton!
Love your music
to the end of my life.
old love, if you exist, if you are real, where are you? I miss someone I don't know yet, not in this life.
easily one of the best performances of the century just wow
My old love is fighting for his life after a traffic accident. He is in a coma. 461 ocean boulevard was .. our album. You are always in my heart Gerry. I m sending you all my love.
I always think Clapton makes the guitar sound exactly the way he sings.
Ummm....I think he makes his guitar "sing" for him ..
Totally Eric Clapton!!! His stage but he steps aside and lets the keyboardist shine! He does that every time on stage, Mr. Clapton is ALL class!!!!
I've commented before here....had to again. Ive since lost my man who I dearly loved for over 35 years. I play this full blast.... again and again! I will never get over.... thank you Mr Clapton!

Eric never thought he could sing
And no auto-tune!! Just Eric, his guitar, and a microphone.
That keyboard solo really encapsulates the feeling of a broken love. The panging, raw and confused emotions of a relationship gone too soon. Yes, be sure to appreciate and enjoy Clapton while he's still alive my friend.
No one talks about that magical Intro, So underrated
Dieses Feeling findet hört man nur von Eric Clapton. My Favorit Guitar Player.
I feel my wife in heaven, when I hear this song. RIP dear Marcia!
Clapton literally sings with both solo and that keyboard solo from Carmen is filthy 🤩
This is the blues babe.. with all loving love from Morocco. Lovyall
Tim Collins adds a nice touch to this song!
this is THE performance. In my opinion, the best of all time.
I believe that this performance can rightly be called an Act of God.
Your guitar never stops talking to me and neither do you.
This ALWAYS reminds me of my Old Love, that will remain 4EVER!
So wholesome at the end to see the whole band absolutely groovin to the keyboard haha they're so happy
Putting an ad in the middle of this song is criminal!
Pony up for Premium like the rest of us ;)
PJ Sch I was pissed at first but the silver lining was at least artists are being paid this way.
@@TheDCGuitar13 unfortunately, they don't have the copyright on the video, so the poster received revenue and not the artists.

Give John Mayer and Keith Urban a shot if you enjoy melodic solos. The live versions that is
And don't forget David Gilmour, Gary Moore and Mark Knopfler...
Often imitated , never duplicated. That tone, that emotion.... delicious.
I seen eric so many times 2010 2007 crossroads, he saved my life with his music
5:13 - 7:20. The guitar is crying and I'm crying. Two minutes of pure emotion.

Only Eric Clapton has this kind of emotion. I still have to say....like a fine wine.....he just gets better and better....all my life I've loved him

Correct..my music teacher met him and said he is the most unassuming guy ever..

I'm glad this video does not get 100M views, it shows that only few people realized that this is a Masterpiece and I really mean it. ❤️
God, can you imagine being that good at your instrument that EVERYONE in the band stops to look at you soloing? What an amazing performance.
Truth. When. Will. I. Learn. Never. Love. Never. Let's. Go. Truly. Can't. Forget. Faith. 💟✝️🛐

45 years later and I still look to Clapton for my groove.

I love you Eric. I want to see you live so bad while it’s still possible. Love you, you have gotten me through some tough times.

Did You even notice FANTASTIC drum solo at the background of Eric's solo? I realized that is totally awesome maybe at my 50th view...
He is steve gad thats why
Man .. Clapton felt that one big time. That guitar was crying its butt off. WOW!
That damn INTRO that flows from 1:42 is MAGIC!!! Cant get enough of that!!!

6:21 that fucking bend was spot on....
+Prisms Edits Clapton es un rey del bending
+Prisms Edits the note sounds just a little bit too flat to me. I would not call it spot on ;)
+numv2 he hits the note at top of the bend. only flat on the way up.
+jakemenz Still too flat to me ;)
