    Took your advise and got a Sebo. Man that machine is a work horse. Went over the floor with my Shark. Then went over it with the Sebo and could not believe all the junk in the bag that the Shark did not vacuum up. Plus the carpet looks cleaner and feels softer. Hubby said his allergies feel much better since we made the purchase. It did a great job on carpeted stairs too.

    As I service technician myself, I strongly agree with this review. The E3 has to be one of my favorite machines we carry in our stores. As far as warranty claims are concerned, Sebo warranties are very rare. I've done 1 in the last several years. The same can't be said with so many other "big brands".

    Awesome in-depth video! Was waiting for something like this as there isn't plenty of E3 videos yet. I acquired one 3 weeks ago and I am in love with it, always looking for excuses to vacuum, hehehe . I was very interested to see what was inside. I sometime wondered if I shouldn't have bought a Miele C3 but videos like this make me proud of owning a Sebo. This company isn't focused on showing off but rather providing exceptional quality for those who can appreciate it. Only downside is bag capacity is lower and filtration isn't quite as good (still far enough) but the price of the machine is also lower. I love Sebo and german top notch quality!

I also got a Sebo D4 to remedy that, but I haven't given up the Orecks because they're so light. Thaniks to this review took an E3 home today. Used my Baird airflow gauge to compare to my 4 other vacs. From best to worst: Miele Blue Moon (8), Miele UniQ/Sebo E3 (7), Sebo Felix (6.5), Miele Capricorn (6). Blue Moon isn't stock - is retrofitted with one of Miele's first Vortex motor. Sound wise it seems as quiet as the Miele UniQ, and quieter than the other Mieles and Felix. On ultra plush carpet, the E3 is far easier to push brush roller over carpet than the Felix. Also, surprise, the E3 has 3 feet more cord than the Miele Uni-Q !

    Thanks for creating and posting this video. We’re transitioning from a Miele upright that has treated us well for 8 years and we 100% intended to replace it with another Miele upright until we learned that Miele has discontinued most of that line. We made the decision to go with a canister and thought we’d purchase a Miele C3. Your video helped me see the quality and durability underneath the surface of a Sebo. I watched another video of a Miele C3 disassembly and the differences I could see in construction made up my mind to go with Sebo E3. There are usability features of the C3 I like over the Sebo, like Hepa filtration, wider roller, and roller control on the handle, but the Sebo quality won me over. Thanks again.

    You have a great channel.. thanks for this awesome video. I just have a question.. What do you think of the Sebo Felix? I'm trying to decide between it and this (E3) model. Other than the fact that one is an upright and one is a canister, power and airflow wise, what would be a better option in your opinion? Thanks!

    • @HouseOfVacuums
      @HouseOfVacuums  Před 3 lety +3

      Thanks for the question!
      I like the Felix and I think it is a great option for people who have bare floor but don't like canisters. However, for those who are not opposed to canisters I still feel they will give better performance.
      The Felix's form factor forces some compromises in terms of motor size, so the E3 is still a more powerful machine. Not to say it is bad, but it's "canister turn upright" form factor just necessitates a few compromises.
      If you get the Felix, I doubt you will be disappointed. But if you want the ultimate in cleaning the Sebo line, I'd go for the E3.

      Miele or Sebo... it is the classic question! I will add, even if the Sebos are more expensive down under I think their build quality justifies it. I tend to think that Miele are a little overpriced here in the USA for what they offer.

    Our Sebo E3 is about 4 years old and seems to be missing some suction. I removed the hose and found some clogage inside the hose around the cord to the powerhead. All filters and bag were replaced. All the doors and filters appear to be installed correctly. Is there anything else as an owner I should look at before bringing it in? And, What interval to you recommend for the full service job as you did here? Thanks Great vid. Appreciate the info on the quality engineering and construction.

    • @HouseOfVacuums
      @HouseOfVacuums  Před 2 lety +3

      Thanks for the question, Curtis!
      If you removed the clog from the hose but it is still not picking up, double check both the wand and also the path from the powerhead neck to the brush. There may be an additional clog there.
      As for servicing, there is not really a hard and fast rule and it is highly dependent on the vacuum and the household. With Sebos, my general rule is that when you notice that it isn't cleaning like it used to or perhaps you have a musty smell that isn't cured by a new bag and filter.
      So in your case, I would say check the additional air pathways and if those are clear... it may be time for a service. Hope that helps!

      Hey Danny, thanks for watching! The vacuums I tend to gravitate to are the Sebo E3, the Miele Compact C2 (unfortunately discontinued but similar to the Compact C1), and the Sebo D4 for very large houses with open floor plans.
      At the end of the day, I'm just an E3 fanboy. My wife's favorite vacuum is her Miele Complete C3 Brilliant, so different strokes. If you can find a local dealer(s) I would try both brands and see what you prefer. However, if reliability is your top priority, I'd go Sebo (really, any model). Hope that helps!

    What do you think about the Sebo X7 pet compared to the Sebo E3? I am looking for something that works great on all floor types, easy to use on stairs and has a easy accessible wand for dusting.

    • @HouseOfVacuums
      @HouseOfVacuums  Před 3 lety +4

      Thanks for watching and the question!
      I think for both the requirements you outlined (easy to use wand and bare floor compatibility) the Sebo E3 would be the better choice. The X7 is great on carpet and can do limited bare floors, but it does not have the ability to turn the brushroll off. This can result in debris being blown around on a bare floor due to the turbulence created by the spinning brushroll. The E3 can turn its brushroll off for quick pickups, but also comes with a dedicated bare floor brush that is much better on smooth surfaces.
      Also, both the E3 and the X7 have wands onboard. However, the E3 has a telescoping wand that will allow you to reach up to 4' from your hand, whereas the X7 is not telescoping and will only reach about 2' from your hand.
      So, unless you are completely opposed to the canister form factor, I would go E3. Let me know if you have any other questions or would like a quote. Thanks!

  • @mattheviewer
    @mattheviewer Před 2 lety +1

    One surprise: when changing E3's bag for first time, discovered small pile of dust __under__ the bag.....it had leaked! The older Miele canister fiber bags also leaked until Miele sorted out their construction (have been through at least 3 revisions so far - latest ones work well). Side note: Sebo US tells me the E3 will alert you to overheating by shutting down _and_ changing its power button light from blue to red.

      Sebo poly bags are not the thickest out there. In dusty environments you can see a little bit of bypass on the bottom of the bag if filled full. I would give it a quick wipe with a microfiber and you should be back in business.

    Advice? I have 1 room 400SQFT soft nylon which was pricey. It needs a good vac for best care. Previously we had 98% hardwood which was fine with the V8 for years. But I can't use that on this carpet. Testing SEBO revealed how much dirt the Dyson was leaving behind in area rugs. And frankly, I'm over the gross bagless experience. Features I need are height adjustment & variable flow. Before trying either model, I thought Felix was THE one. Great multi-tasker, maneuverable, etc. But IRL it was slightly too heavy on the handle (shoulder issues). And, due to the design of the swivel neck, if not clicked in just right, it wants to tip over when you pull the hose to vac a windowsill or such. I never expected to like a canister. But the E3 is surpringly, almost as maneuverable. It does everything the Felix can do & then some & is a bit lighter on my shoulder & arm. The cost is higher, esp since I only "need" it for 1 large room. But we'll never outgrow it. And, it does a fine job on hardwood, dusting baseboards, stairs, etc. so it honestly can easily replace the Dyson completely. I just heard of the K3 & am wondering if I should consider it. I've seen prices are quite a lot lower than E3. But that design is 20 years old, right? Less power? I'd love your suggestion.

    One quickie: do the EH powerheads warn you if the brush roller is set too _low_? I've seen they'll indicate roller being set too high/spinning on bare floors (haven't worn one out yet....). Am surprised Sebo still has no headlight on it, though.

    • @HouseOfVacuums
      @HouseOfVacuums  Před 2 lety

      Good question! Yes, it will start to show red if the brushroll is set too high or too low. An occasional blink of the red light is normal while vacuuming, but a consistent illumination of the red light means you need to adjust the height either up or down.

    • @mattheviewer
      @mattheviewer Před 2 lety

      Thanks! FYI discovered EH-1's an absolute bear to push on ultra plush carpet when brush roller is "off" - looks like Kombi or other non powered carpet brush would be better for simple carpet dust pickups! With roller "on" EH's proved easy to manuever on plush carpet.

      Yes, the D4 is also built to a very high standard. I think the defining difference between the two is that the D4 excels in large homes with an open floorplan. At some point I'll try to do a video on the difference, but suffice to say I think the E3 is well worth the extra money. It is significantly more powerful at the nozzle, has the velocity stacking hose, larger bag, full size tools, bag on top, and an automatic retracting cord reel.
      The K3 is a good machine, I just think for $200 difference it is worth putting the money into the E3, and that is from someone who owns both.

      @@HouseOfVacuums thanks I'm in between the Sebo E3 and Riccar R40P any opinions on Riccar build quality?

    • @HouseOfVacuums
      @HouseOfVacuums  Před 3 lety +3

      The E3 and the R40P are very different vacuums that excel at different things. The vacuum that will be best for you will depend on your home and flooring.
      As a canister, the E3 will be best for bare floor or mixed flooring (ie: even combination of bare floor and/or carpet/rugs). If allergies are a concern, it is also a sealed filtration system, which the R40P is not. Finally, it is hard to be the 10 year warranty that you get on a Sebo if you buy from an authorized dealer and register it using the dealer code.
      The Riccar is a more complex machine using the push/pull Tandem Air design. More complexity means more things to go wrong. That being said, the 8 year warranty provides some peace of mine. Where the R40P really excels is carpeting. If yo have a lot of carpeting, high traffic areas, and/or pet hair it is absolutely unbeatable. Nothing cleans carpeting better than the R40P... full stop. I would consider the bare floor performance as acceptable, but not great like the E3. While this is a HEPA machine, the motor compartment is not fully sealed, so there will be some dust bypass. It will filter better than a bagless machine by far, but it will not out-filter the Sebo.
      I hope that helps. If you would like a quote or have other questions, feel free to shoot me an email via our website. Thanks!

    • @HouseOfVacuums
      @HouseOfVacuums  Před 3 lety +3

      Hi George!
      I personally think they are a little expensive for what you are getting. Water filtration might have been good back in the day, but the fact that the Rainbow is using a HEPA filter now means it will filter the same amount as any other HEPA or S-Class machine (which is BETTER filtration than the old "water filtration only" models). So there really isn't a huge advantage to the water system now... it is more of a liability.
      Aerus makes good machines, but I think they are outdated. Their basic design dates all the way back to the HiTech 2100 in 1994. Even the Guardian Platinum can be traced back to the Renaissance in 1994. Given the advances in vacuum design, I feel like money is better spent on something from Miele or Sebo.

    • @HouseOfVacuums
      @HouseOfVacuums  Před 3 lety +4

      Great question! The K3 is a very capable machine, but like you said it is a little bit older design. The biggest difference between it and the E3 is power to the floor. While the K3 is no slouch, the E3 measures more airflow and suction at the end of the hose because it has a straight air pathway to the motor.
      There are other small differences like the E3 has a full size upholstery tool, the velocity stacking hose, one touch cord rewind, a slightly larger bag, etc.
      So if you have a lot of pet hair or other debris, the E3 might be preferable. Also, if you like the generational upgrade to some of the convenience features. If those aren't a concern, the K3 is a very good deal.

    If as you say, the motor housing is sealed to suck the air so it flows all around the motor, what would be the point of the air holes on the air belt as pretty well all the air goes out through the S class filter? And, why would you bother taking the motor apart and not checking the brushes/commutator segments? And I was not keen on the way you pulled the motor out and strained the connections to the brush housings.

    • @HouseOfVacuums
      @HouseOfVacuums  Před 3 lety +4

      Thanks for the comment!
      So the design of the E3 pushes exhaust air through the S-Class filter after the motor. Once the air has exited the filter, it is baffled through the Airbelt. The Airbelt is not a filter, but rather a means of diffusing the air prior to exiting the machine. It is a way to avoid one strong exhaust port like you notice on other vacuums that can sometime blow debris around.
      As for the commutator, I did look at it while the motor was out. As I mentioned in the video, I sold the vacuum and it was one year old. With the commutator looking clean, there was no reason to pull the brushes. In those instances, pulling well-seated carbon brushes can actually cause more harm than good if they make slightly different contact upon reinsertion. You should only pull them on an old machine, one with a discolored commutator, a burning smell or excessive carbon dust. This machine didn't meet those criteria.
      And for the strained connections... look a little closer. The incoming wiring terminates into a spade connector that is fastened securely into the ceramic field housing. There was never any stress on those leads because of the way the motor is manufactured.
      Cheers!

      They are both great vacs. I tend to find that Miele vacuums have a few more usability features and are a little more refined. On the flip side of that coin, Sebo vacs are just simply built like tanks. So it depends on your priorities... do you want something that is a little more delicate that has some creature comforts or do you want something that can really handle hard use?
      There's no right answer to that question, it just depends on your preference. On my second floor I have an E3 that I typically use and I love. On my main floor I have a Miele Brilliant that is my wife's baby and she would only part with for a new top-end Miele model. As for the E3 being replaced, that won't be any time soon. Sebo put a ton of money into the the development of the E-Series, even consulting with a German industrial design firm. It is their newest canister model, and Sebo is known to hanging on to designs for quite a while. For example, the K-Series debuted in 2002 and continues to be made essentially unchanged.

      @HouseOfVacuums  Před 3 lety +3

      Yes, and the USA site actually shows the K series having more water lift. However, this has to do with how it is tested. Manufacturers rate CFM and water lift at the motor inlet, so it doesn't take into account things like the pressure relief valve, design of the air pathway, tapered hoses, etc.
      I took the measurements from the end of the hose, and I got 60 inches of water lift on a K3 and 80 on the E3, probably owing to the preload of the pressure relief valves. Airflow at the hose/nozzle is also less on the K than the E series, but I don't have real world CFM numbers because my calculations on the inlet size are off, so I'll have to do that again.
      In either case, it is best to test these numbers as either at the floor or at the hose numbers because of those variables.

Here in the USA we haven't seen that change, so performance has been untouched.

      Matt, maybe you can help me with this. Recently I got my hands on a K3 Lava with ET-1. I serviced the PN and the motor does not make strange noises and it shows next to no wear and tear at all, which I find impressive for a machine Made in 2008. however, the motor (even without the belt attached) appears to run at a lower speed than the very same Ametek-Motor in my 2017 ET-1. do you know whether this is normal and whether they changed the specs over the years? And would you recommend a belt change after some years? It is not as tight anymore, but does not appear to slip. When it comes to the canister itself, there are two issues with it: the PN runs with the canister shut off. I have checked the connections in the hose with a voltmeter, and the circuit board looks just fine. Additionally, the canister motor runs just fine, but it emits a very high pitched noise. No screeching or squealing, but just an annoying high tone that I have not experienced with the E3. When turning the motor slowly by hand, you hear a squeal. I suspect one carbon brush to be the culprit, because turning the motor without the brushes does not cause the noise. Have you ever encountered this problem? It is hard to check from videos whether the K-motor just has a high pitched noise to it. BTW, it is interesting that SEBO sources their canister motors from BSH, „Bosch Siemens Hausgeräte“, which is a large German appliance manufacturer and basically their competitor. Keep up the good work, Matt.

      Hi there! For the power nozzle motor, there could definitely have been some production changes in the nozzle motors during that time. Changes in the commutator size, brushes, rotational mass etc. If the motor is turning free, I wouldn't worry about it.
      As for the motor sounds, it is either bearings that are getting loud or it is possible the vacuum is clogged or needs a filter. The suction relief valve on those guys can make one heck of a racket when it is engaged, and the most common cause is a full bag, full filters, or a clog. I wouldn't think it would be brushes, because that would be more of a grinding noise and would likely be accompanied by a burning smell.

      Great question!
      On bagged machines, really just changing the bag & filter will bring back performance. Bagless machines, on the other hand, have mesh screens, cyclones and air channels that get constricted and need cleaned out for full performance.
      So what is the purpose of a service? To protect your investment and make it more pleasant to use. If you've ever had a musty smelling vacuum and you can't get rid of the smell, the service will address that. It cleans out excess dust throughout the machine. This gets rid of the source of the smell and also protects the internals like circuit boards, motor bearings, motor insulation and cord reels. Dust buildup results in heat buildup which is the enemy of reliability. Also, cleaning the actual ends of a disassembled brushroll can prevent the need to replace it later on. Many components are like that.
      That is purpose of a service on a machine like this. Not maintaining it would be like buying a Mercedes and never changing the oil.
