    After a year or so of use, I can highly recommend it. I experience power outages often, with a backup generator we still have power and internet. I have to restart it once every three or so months, aside from that it has worked well allowing the family to stream movies and play online PC games. During inclement weather, it can be a bit slow at times. We are moving to an area where I can get cable internet but will be keeping the Verizon 5G service, the cost for performance is well worth it, in my case it is just convenient to have.

  • @redoscar540

    I love that competition is starting to become available. I have a slow, grandfathered, cable internet plan that meets our needs. But if the cable company tried to jack up the price much more than they already have, I would jump ship to something like this in a heartbeat.
    My only concern is that guarantee of only two years before Verizon could start raising the rates. For me, $50/month is quite an increase over what I pay now. And I doubt I would ever be a Verizon mobile phone customer. I am a very happy Mint Mobile customer.
    Great video nonetheless!

      The good thing is other providers such as T-Mobile is also starting to provide the 5G Internet, so hopefully more competition can help to prevent them from increasing their prices! Thanks so much for sharing your experience and glad you liked the video :-)

    Thanks for the review, especially showing us how to do the IP pass through. Because of your review, I gave it a try. For $25/mo, why not? I just got it today and my test speed is consistently ~400 Mbps. Coming from Woway 1 Gbps plan at $65/mo, I feel like I’ve been under utilizing the bandwidth. So it’s time to downsize and save myself some money. To me, Verizon 5G UW is more reliable than cable. At least for my area. I always find myself disabling home wifi more than often and switch back to 5G UW on my phone many times…..

    Thank you for posting this. I went to Verizon recently to upgrade my phone and they sent me home with a router for free because I was interested. I did not unbox yet since I have a month free and I wanted to just take a weekend to test. I would not have thought to check router type if it were not for this video. I guess they are trying to get rid of the old routers since the newest ones came out in December. I may still test since your download speeds were double what I currently get with our provider.
    Our current router is actually near a window already and on our 2nd floor where our "office" area is. We have to use amplification devices for our items downstairs so it's not a huge deal for me, but I do think I will return the router now that I see they just want to dump old routers.

    Good insight, I'll definitely consider using my own router. I work from home and went with the 5G Plus option for the faster speeds. I asked Verizon specifically for the gateway that mounts to a window to get an optimized connection. However, they refused to give it to me because they said they only give it to customers that are in a 5G UW coverage area. The tower near my home is 5G and will eventually get UW - so once that's turned on apparently I can swap the gateway for free. Seems counterintuitive why they didn't just give me the better option upfront, but I'll see how it goes with the cube version instead. I'm having to go with Verizon since the infrastructure in the neighborhood sucks, Xfinity didn't even bother laying any cable and the fiber speeds are a joke (75Mbps/5Mbps). Hoping Verizon is the solution I need for my new home. 🙏

I'm considering this or the T-Mobile unit more towers near me by 2X) to replace a cabled internet; I still use the cabled internet due to needing the speed until I retire later this year, and its cheap in my area since there is plenty of competition. If I swap now the cost for either will be the same per month as cabled internet ($50 in my area). Have you ever considered a cell signal booster for the Verizon 5G unit? Pretty simple to install, antenna outside with a coaxial cord feeding into an amplifier and antenna. It may allow you to put the 5G box anywhere you want in your home and increase upload and download speeds.

Had to call them twice, though, once to make sure activation worked (following the instructions wasn't enough I had to call in) and once to make sure my account creation and first payment was taken care of (the app gave me an error when trying to sign up). So far so good, though, and bear in mind the tower is very close to where we live so that does make a difference I'm sure. YMMV
    Remember to return the equipment from your old service provider to their local store and get the receipt regarding that return. Take a photo of it and e-mail it to yourself. Just in case. I'm also making sure they e-mail me about the cancellation because I called and cancelled a few hours ago and still didn't get that e-mail. I'll call again tomorrow and make sure I get the cancellation e-mail.

    Checking all this out for leverage. I'm a disgruntled customer! I’m going to the store, which I hate dealing with their snotnosed college salespeople (they usually try and rip you off, say they don't work on commission but that's B.S. worse than car salesmen), to see if I could get a decent deal FINALLY. Been a customer for over 6 years. Why have you been a customer for 6 years, if you hate them you may ask? Because where I live there had been no other options until now. It was either Verizon or nothing. I had my MiFi box for 6 years, runs like crap (like old dial-up.)! I wouldn't even go into the store to try and get a new one because I hate dealing with them so much. Plus, they used to give you a new one for free, now they charge for it. Was thinking of trying this new box, if they say it's not available in my area or give me that dumb look like they don't know what I’m talking about (got that from them before), I’m paying off my phone and saying, “SEE YA!” This is their last chance. They give methe deal advertised, no bait-and-switch like they usually do, or SEE YA!

    I’m just a casual home owner user. Your video is great. I just got my Verizon box. The tech can only get 4g. He put a ticket in.
    I have a tp-
    Link mesh unit,( x-20 ), 3 towers. Usually 1 tower tower is the router that is hooked up to my personal Arias Modem. But I now have the Verizon box and I’m going to go into tp link app and set towers as a access point instead, one being a router? Do you think this will work? We don’t game, tv and phones is really all there is. It’s just a weaker signal in the back of the house. What’s your thoughts?

    • @Behfor
      @Behfor  Před rokem

      Hi, you can either use your own wireless router as an access point and connect it to the Verizon box, or enable IP passthrough on the Verizon box and connect your own W router as a w router. I would prefer the second one because you get to use all the features of your wireless router, if you use it as an AP, some of it's features will no longer be available. Thanks

    • @to5msheppard
      @to5msheppard Před rokem

      You make it sound easy I think the Verizon guy is going to call me back and we’re going to try that. So you’re saying use my TP router the way I am now the first tower be a router. My other way of thinking was if I use the Verizon box with the modem router. The other three towers can be just used to send a signal I don’t do that much. It’s just a TV and a couple phones to me and my wife we’re both in our 60s I’m not gaming I’m not uploading videos just watching TV on Amazon Netflix and Hulu.

    Does anyone even know what you have to do to get the LVSKIHP, I was given the Cube cause that's all the Verizon agent at the store was being told I could get, but I live 1/4 mile from a water tower with the antenna array in a 5G Ultrawideband zone. I can Max out the Cube at 300 so I feel confident I could push the Window Mounted Unit close to a Gig, Id be Happy with 700-800. I really want the 50 Upload speed however and Looks you can only get that with the LVSKIHP.

  • @jasonmarshall4436
    @jasonmarshall4436 Před rokem +1

    It works but 4G LTE is capped at 50 Mbps. We don't have 5G yet. Verizon be slow lol. Cell signal is the same as ATAT. They share the same site and at one mile with direct line of sight they are about 85/90 DB. Same for my ATAT phone so not much to say ho has better signal/Coverage. Now 5G is a lot faster but the range they give you is all over the place but at least 4G LTE I get a good 50 most of the time. I play Xbox Series X and Steam off PC and Twitch Stream at 720 P with 5 Mbps on the upload and it works vary well. The upload is about 6/6.50 so not much room their but it works. Only small issue Verizon has is say on Xbox when looking for game's on Gamepass images don't like to load for some reason and a download may take a bit to start but other then that it's a vary good service. Heck you can even get an open that type on your Xbox because of being able to do port forwarding and DMV the device if you really need to you can turn off the Wi-Fi and use your own Wi-Fi device so I've been told by a lot of people you can't do port forwarding but it's clearly right I mean the UI of the device

      @Behfor  Před 2 lety +1

      Generally it's not a good idea to do that! As far as the WiFi is concerned, they can very much interfere with each other, unless they are using different WiFi channels which even then they can still degrade each other's WiFi if they are too close.

    The wifi sucks on this device. Live in a trailer that's 75 feet and not even 50 feet away I go from 5 bars to 4 just like that. I turned the wifi off and went with a wifi 6 device about 250 dollars and is a few years old now. But walk outside about 1500 feed and was still getting 50/6 on my Verizon 4 G LTE on the home internet side. Verizon WiFi would barley make it to 1000 feet lol. It supports wifi 6 I think but having antennas on them makes a huge difference on range. The service works great on the new Xbox Series X but they could definitely do 100/25. Because TMO Home Inter can do a good 300 download and 20 upload on 4G LTE. I feel Verizon should definitely improve on this to be more competitive. Don't get me wrong ot works great but Comcast you can get 300 or faster for 80 a month and if they could do this their would be a lot more customers willing to drop their ISP in a hart beat. I did it because I was stuck on DSL 6/512 so it was way to slow.

    Do you get better download speeds using your own router connected to it?

    • @Behfor
      @Behfor  Před rokem

      That'll depend on many factors! For example, if the bottleneck is your WiFi connection and not the 5G connection, then using your own router (assuming it is more advanced than the Verizon gateway) can possibly give you better download speeds. If the issue is the 5G connection, then the answer is no.

If you want both of them to have WiFi the best way is to use the Verizon Internet Gateway as is ( IP Passthrough disabled) and change the operation of the Wireless Router to an Access Point and connect it to the Verizon gateway.
