Others have pointed out that something was made clearer in other languages:
Arlecchino's friend, Clervie, was the "Mother"'s biological daughter, who was mistreated/abused by her for being too weak. That's why Arlecchino asks "Do mothers usually argue with their daughters?"
That's why their hair color looks the same.
What else is new. English localization would always find ways to change some of the original script's context.

@@hikari9262 It's subtle enough the CN Nuances would get lost.It's the same way that the "stranger" Pahsiv is talking about in the world quest IS Neuvillette but their are dialog puns in CN hinting to that that get 100% lost in translation.
Clervie at least looks like her mother and nuance is lost a little but the bunny's at the begining (the one knealing before "mother" rabbit) and only using "mother" when Peruere/Arlecchino' is talking to Clervie are at least some context clues.
It's why I suspect she'll betray the Tsaritsa at some point
when arlecchino asked "Do mothers usually argue with their daughters" and clervie was all injured...it implied that the previous knave beat her own daughter.....what a horrible person

What really hit me was the friend saying “I’m sorry” and “thank you”. It’s almost like she’s saying I’m sorry you had to kill me but thank you for doing it instead of being me in your place 😭
I dont think Arlechino kill her, bcs she had her own sword in her other hand, I think Clervie did kill herself with her own sword bcs Arlechino doesnt want to duel her... So she did it and arlechino just standing there witnessing her bestfriend death
The flower that was withered was the Lumidouce Bell which, in the archives, symbolises partings and the wish for reunion. It is also the same flower on Clervie's necklace. In CN the mother daughter argument line specifically uses birth mother, so Clervie was the previous Knave's actual daughter. So "Mother" mentioning "pruning" the Lumidouce Bell before it withered is symbolically worse than initially thought.
There is a cut to a sword with an orange ball after Clervie's death which might represent the unnamed blonde haired girl with the Bulle Fruit hair tie, so most likely all the other kids are dead too just like the storybook in the beginning foreshadowed.
That context is lost in the english localization, why do they keep doing that?

I saw comments under the JP version talking about why Arlecchino refers to herself as “Father” may be because she wants to separate herself from her “predecessors” who were known as “Mother”. Rather than being an abusive and controlling “mother”, she would be more akin to a watchful and guiding “father”.
Arlecchino's past was portrayed very well in this short animated, it made me feel sympathetic and aroused more interest in this character ;)

One thing I haven't seen mentioned, is how Arrlechino first fought "Mother" using the same weapon and style as her. It was only when she rejected that sword and fought as herself with her curse that she was able to not only win, but dominate. Not as "Mother's" daughter, but as the woman who would become the Knave.

Animation was amazing but man the OST.....the OST.....that just amplified it to a whole another level. The singing especially the part when Arlecchino kicked the previous Knave to the roof before she unleashed her curse to kill her got me goosebumps

This animated short has reached from happy to bloodshed so quick. Those siblings are kinda cute and other one just sacrificed by her hands. So this is the previous Knave and the reason why Arlecchino hates the word "mother".....

Let's face it. Nothing changed this patch. If arlechinno wasn't hyped, and some irrelevant character like chiori, no one would say "peak genshin" because aside from arlechinno, its just the same shit (Events)
Hearing the lyrics in the music really gave that Honkai Emotional Impact 3rd realness 😭 Reminded me of Bronya and Seele for moment but a lot more tragic
The childrens' chorus is a nice touch @5:10 given what's happening at that moment.
When "Mother" tells all of them your goal is to defeat all your brothers and sisters in battle to become "King" I didn't really expect defeat means kill to the last man standing...
all the kids can't reject the mother order to fight each other until death to find the last king.. and then at the last moment her best friend gave in for her victory..

Dark days are coming in Genshin, and I'm all here for it.
They always have promising teasers like this, then full on don’t fully commit to the tone they set in the story, which is disheartening to see.
@@jaymz2385 see that's the beauty of genshin they don't use dark theme for dark themes sake ,they use it sparingly in places where it's necessary and honestly when something dark do happen it's shocking and I think that's a genius in storytelling.
@@Anna-sd4zl I see what you're saying, but that gets us to the area of what makes a good story. Genshin has the issue where long stretches aren't interesting in the least. I've put hours into the game, and there hasn't been a hint of a larger overarching story for years now, and I can't seem to connect to the characters because many of them don't have large stakes in what's already been established. It gets exhausting sometimes.
@@jaymz2385 uff buddy I don't know what you missed but there is a big overarching story and the traveller is sort of like the key that explores the story as he traverse regions. I have already said before but the world building of genshin is one of the best ways of establishing your world in a story game ,like how a particular incident in a game has multiple conflicting stories from people of different regions just like in real life . Particularly the orobashi God from the Inazuman people you get the story of an evil god but people from the watasumi islands has another story that show him as a benovelont God, I can go on but you get the gist .
Im so happy they learned they couldnt keep harbinger backstories in events and text like Scara and decided to do this.
I'm also happy they only showed what we already knew, and not some loredrop related to her curse, origin etc. I want all the important stuff to be in game and only supplementary content in video form.
Also i hope ppl dont say its the Honkai writers whenever something sad happens in GI. We already got confirmation that its always been the GI team handling the story for GI from a QNA done by Xiao Luohou the lead scriptwriter, and their team says Act 5 of Fontaine is their proudest story yet. Its fine if we say "its reaching Honkai levels of storywriting" but saying "the honkai writers came in and wrote it" takes away credit from this team. Its like if soemone says "u draw like *insert famous artist*" which is a compliment vs "this was definitely done by *insert famous writer*" which takes away credit. Genshin has always had really disturbing stuff since 1.0, its just theyve started to finally embrace it in the forefront and not hide it.

I think they're compensating for the amount of background lore for her since last 2 to 3 patches. Because if you think about scara,he has two whole ass world quest serieses and couple of limited event stories decicated to him,which is on top of the backstory provided of him in sumeru AQ and in his interlude.but her?we know nothing about her nor nothing has been provided of her,except for ones that told by herself.

Just remember. All of us who believed there was more to father when everyone else just believed whatever childe and scaramouche has to say at face value. Two wolves in sheeps clothing, calling her the very portrayal of what they first came off as in the story.
Childe may be right about one thing, though. She probably would betray the Tsaritsa in a heartbeat if it benefit her interests, and her interests are her children.
While I'm not that surprise about the context of arlecchino fighting the previous Knave bc there's hidden world quest in Inazuma telling us how she became the Knave, I really love this animation. Really hope there're more animated short like this. Maybe for some world quests or lore.

It was hinted in the Inazuma world Quest that Peruere/Arlecchino killed the former Knave/Harbinger and reformed the House of the Hearth practices.
It still brutal as Tsaritsa still needs her Assassin/Fatui agents that are trained there but less cruel to pit the children against one another to the death to weed out the "weak ones"... If they die it's now on missions or if one betrays the House they are killed. (Some don't return to the next "Hunt" as stated in the 4.6 teaser)
Freminet was raised under the hand of the former Knave/Harbinger, if you read his unit story/voicelines it shows things are done at his early age. Lyney and Lynnette where brought in after Peruere/Arlecchino took over the House and at first he was confused by their nature and the change of operations.
This shows that the House of the Hearth was Moved into Fontaine City after this as well, so that Children knows what life is instead of being isolated in the "mountains" for their training. (I'm not sure 100% where the old House of the Hearth is... it might be in the current mountains but it might also be the island we are going to as the older building where used after the fall of Remuria all over Fontaine but different groups including the House of the Hearth.)
Their Current Fatui NPC stories that talking about how he because a Fatui instead of his sister as they both grew up in the House of the Hearth. And the sister can live a normal life as an actor/singer due to his service.
EDIT: I just released something.... You see a Bulle Friut (orange) hair orniment hanging off a sword after Clervie died. It implied that Peruere/Arlecchino had also killed her blonde twintail friend that had it in her hair growing up. 😭
Clervie has a Lumidouce Bell necklace and it's the plant the "Mother" called grotesque.

A question I now ponder is what happened to make Crucabena so obsessed with being the most powerful and being the "king". Plus there's also her statement about innocence and kindness which makes me think something happened to turn her the way she is, maybe that's just me reading into it too much but it really seemed like she genuinely wanted to "crown a king" among her "children". It is also a matter of her being a harbinger, so I'm guessing she must have become disillusioned with the system of the seven or at least with an integral part of the system of the rest of Teyvat if the Tsaritsa recruited her. I would love to hear more of her story, I have a feeling it's a tragic one.

Something I think should be mentioned is that in the story book the previous knave was reading Arlecchino’s doll is the one that becomes king which might imply that the previous Knave had always knew or planned for Arlecchino to become king presumably because of her curse or hat she was a prodigy

Then the plans relating to rescuing Seele from SOQ although I don't remember much about it. And I think there are more not directly in the main game

The most interesting to notice for me was the kaenriah flowers there was at the beginning of the animation (also at the moment when she is under the rubles under the lumidouce bells). Given the book perineri we got, I wonder if the curse is related to this kaenriah hearth...

in mythology factors , a mourning dove (columbinas constalation) is known that doves provide comfort because they help people remember their loved ones are watching over them. in this case columbina would be reassuring alrecchino about cerise. because the greek mythology stageplay arlecchino and columbina are based of on. “The birds soft cooing song” is also what a dove is said to do when comforting the “friend” who is mourning over loss. who sings? columbina. and there is a slight humming and singing in the trailer too. A dove release is also used for memorial and funerals , thats why she was singing at signoras coffin.
also think about columbinas bows she has , on her neck. which is the exact same one that cerise had put on the plushys AND arlecchino had a bow too on her neck.
cerise had a bow on her bandage that persumbally arlecchino made on her wrist , which is why columbina also has bows on her wirst in the trailer.

Edit: it seems to be in the Est of mont Esus and can't be Mary-ann park since the statue of the seven isn't showed. And we have a lot of fatui in that zone. I think the boss fight will appear here too (i rewatched the livestream and her boss domain seems like the batiment destroyed by the fight with "Mother" .
It also can't be the new map because the topography is different.

My opinion on Arlecchino has been fairly neutral this entire time, but this short made her jump up a couple of tiers. Some things I’ve been curious about(like why she refers to herself as ‘Father’ instead of ‘Mother’) make a bit more sense now.
I don’t play Genshin anymore, but I’d probably end up pulling for her if I did after this.

Here's the theory: this story from the past from Knave and she knew that they ARE harbingers BUT!!!! like this chapter called "Fontaine" from the Knave story line she had been lied AT ALL from the start. And their children are style like her role as "FATHER" Harbingers and Abyss order are.......... here's my answer........ THEY ARE SAME CLAN OR SAME GUILD and Fatui are different goals to destroyed Harbingers and the Abyss Order because of the "Prince or Princess" came to destroyed all of Teyvat the Central and last elements of each Region.... But in order to beat the Knave Traveler "Luminie" must find a way to beat her or surrender and to make restore all of it and the next Region will be more difficulties because of Dragons mwuhahahah :D

Are you sure? It could be that Arle is remember or paraphrasing the words like explaining the story.
They've done that before where certain phrasing wasn't relevant to current events but rather to past incidents before the main story.
Like when arle tried to attack furina. We all thought it happened in game but it was a flash back.
This is just me speculating but, The Tsaritsa said this legacy (title of 'Knave') is one of bloodshed, implying that Harbingers of the orphanage killed the previous one (or "King"). Arlecchino wants Lyney to succeed her and Lyney is horrified by this idea.

And what's the best way to get to him and MAKE him have no choice but to do so? Threaten Lynette and Freminet (and to an extent The Traveler). This story quest is going to be brutal, I can already tell. Even if no one dies, Arle, the Lyney siblings, and Traveler will not look at one another the same after this.
But man, the short itself felt more like 2 minutes than seven. Bravo Hoyoverse!
