I have the same saw stop table saw and have been looking at ideas for an under cabinet. This looks like an accessory made just for the unit. Great build and thanks for sharing.
Your black melamine builds are so classy looking. Love it!
Awesome. On my way to my new cabinet saw - I am going to definitely try to replicate. Thanks!
Michael, I just saw this video in your library today. This will work great for my SawStop. I love the Black Melamine that you use, and that will fit in my shop as well.
Thanks for sharing and teaching. Felix
Glad this video popped up in my feed. I like the way you think as you maximize that dead space. Subscribed!
Thanks very much for this Michael. I've been planning to organize all my table saw accessories into one place and this was the perfect solution. I started making plans in May this year based off your video but finally built and finished the cabinet in July. Just finished today. Wonderful cabinet idea.
love it!! I just got my new saw stop and it's calling for me to do this.
I was just looking at that space under my SawStop tonight and your video popped up. How cool is that. Nice job!
Hi Michael, thanks so much for the great video and plans. I just finished building this cabinet for my SawStop from your plans and am very happy with the way it came out. The support cleats work great and the guidance you provide for installing them was more than enough. I ended up making the drawers out of 1/2 instead of 3/4 ply and just adjusted the length of the drawer faces accordingly. My shop is very small, so having all that drawer space for table saw blades, jigs, tools and accessories helps a ton with basic organization and declutter. I just really appreciate the time and thought you put into this.
This is so nice to hear Brad! I'm glad the plans worked out for you. Thanks for taking the time to follow up!! Enjoy 😁
Love the way it works. Those draw fronts look great.
Thank you!
Great video.... I'm getting a sawstop soon and I will be building this for my saw....
I'm going to start working on making this soon, love the concept. As I was watching I did wonder about the cleat you made on the saw side, instead of closing it up, I might make a pocket or something to store more crap. Beautiful build.
Dig it! I'm imagining all sorts of great blade organization below - good work!
Thanks! Yeah there's loads of room
Wow 4 years ago....you can tell I'm new to the woodworking hobby. I like it. And I have the same table saw.
I bought the plans and made this for my saw, it turned out great!
Oh I like that under table track storage!
Very nice design and the details were great.
I found a source for the melamine in my area and they offered it a one sided version so it is easier to glue onto another substrate. Something to look for if someone else is seeking out this material. I have the same saw and extension and bought the plans for this and I am about to build it. Been watching the video a few times for pointers so getting ready to start finally. Thanks for such a creative idea.
Gorgeous. Exactly what I want to do.
Go for it!
Brilliant! I have the same Saw. Bought your plan.
Very nice use of the space👍🏻
Excellent. Thank you again!
Nice build man! I just bought the same saw and I like your mods.....thanks for sharing!
Thank you! I'm loving the saw. Congrats on yours!
Great build, i don't have this table saw, but you did a great job on the drawer unit. Still something i could use for my shop, just add casters.
Totally! Thanks!
Classic...I was just going to start doing a build just like yours..same idea...love it....thanks for the video
Right on! Let me know when you build it. I'd love to see the result
@@MichaelAlm Will do! I'm going to wait until I get my floating over head dust arm. I want to see if I can set that up without those angled legs. If not my cabinet will be pretty small.
@@bigdogmn73 Interesting.... I'm really curious if that works or not, because I'm considering adding that to my saw.
@@MichaelAlm Sounds good....you gave me a few good ideas so I'll use your ideas along with Brad R from fix this build that...and it might be a deep vertical drawer with some shallow draws to the right of it...
Great job 👌🏻
Nicely done 👍
Finished this build tonight. Bought the excellent plans, then proceeded to self-create every possible hurdle -but made it to the finish line.
Nice job! Cool workshop.
Thanks Jay!
damn thats a clean build!!!! awesome!
Very nice Sir😊
Hi Michael, thanks for all your super cool content. You have a fantastic design sense and a nice presentation style. Would it be possible for you to give a quick update on how you are enjoying, and is there anything you would change, on your table saw outfeed table and this under-saw storage cabinet after two + years of use? I understand if this is a pain.
I really like your build methods, products that you use and especially the finished product. Did you ever build a storage cabinet for a sawstop freestanding router table?
Beatful
Have the identical saw with the 36in extension but I built my cabinet via Brad's style from Fix this Build That that sits on casters. That front leg really gets in the way so I removed it completely and fashioned an adjustable support block that sits on top of the cabinet to support the underside of the saw extension. You gain a ton of room by removing the leg. I think Brad removed both of his completely but I wanted some support.
Hey Michael. I came across your site a couple years ago and saw this plan. I thought it was awesome, and it is. I finally finished the project last week. I also say the blade dividers in your shop tours and of course had to do that as well. This is a great consolidation of all my table saw tools scattered around my shop. Thanks for the great table saw cabinet.!!!!
The one thing in this build that I had problems with was attaching the fronts to the shelves. You used a hot glue gun to put a temp hold on the drawer fronts. I tried this multiple times (it says it sets up in 25-30 seconds) and I could never get the drawer front to adhere to the drawers. I then tried double back tape to no success. It looks like a great way to temp hold the drawer front on while before you mount with screws. Is there a secret to your success? I was able to get the fronts mounted by clamps and such and they came out wonderful.
Good looking build -0 first watched your router table modification - both loo fantastic. Have you ever attempted to use the melamine adhesive vs. the carpet tape? You mentioned nothing sticks to it, but I was told there was Melamine ad so I bought some. I haven't had a chance to use and was wondering if you had tried before. I plan on watching several more of your builds - you do nice work. Thank you.
Very cool...I just got your plans for the outfeed table and the router table. I just bought a sawstop construction table saw. I didn't think I need a pro saw. What are the little colored spacers called that you are using?
NICE
Yo! I’m so glad I found you on IG! Just followed there and subbed here
Right on! Thanks! I'm a big fan of your work as well 😁
I'm planning to try and retrofit my existing under saw cabinet to ride on the mobile base now that I'm getting the ICS base.
Does it matter from a mobility standpoint whether that wheel lifts the cabinet off the ground (instead of using the pump shroud)? I'd think that as long as the base is lifting the saw, the cabinet will follow. Was it putting too much weight on the extension wings?
2:17 made me burst out laughing. Thanks for that. I like the build as well
Taxidermy Eyes, that made me laugh out lout when I saw it, those organisers are great and it's a great idea to make shelves for them, mine are just stacked and it's a pain in the bum when you need the bottom one...
Hahaha, yeah I was wondering if anyone would notice. It is full of taxidermy eyes. I highly recommend building a shelf for the organizers! I've loved having mine.
love the hot glue gun method! A lot👍
Hello Michael, Really like your project and really thinking about building it myself. I’ll probably buy your plans. I’m curious as to where you found the black melamine product? At least it appears to be melamine. Is it expensive?. Thanks again I really like your projects and your videos
This is epic. Thanks for taking the time to film. What's the name of the black laminate you use and how thick is it ? I'd love to find some.
Thanks! It's black melamine 1/4" thick.
Great mounting idea Michael, I have the same saw, except I have the overhead dust collection system therefore 2 braces than runs diagonally under the extension table. Have you come across a solution for that by any chance? I could shorten the braces and secure them to the cabinet, and void the warrantee 😏. Thought I would ask.
I did! I replaced the diagonal support arm for the floating dust collection arm with a piece of flat steel. It's mounted to the bottom of the leg of the floating arm on one side, and to the mobile base on the other. I just used angle brackets to connect the steel flat to both sides.
😉 Nice, looks very slik with the wood accent. Good build
Just a thought, where you put the angled support bracket on the side, if you left it flat, it looks like a perfect place to store the fence when you want to use a sled or miter. It seems I'm always looking for someplace to put it when I want to crosscut something.
Great idea!
Nice build. That's my dream saw too, but it's going to be five years before I have the space or the money for one. One question... Why didn't you glue the black melamine face onto the plywood backing for the drawer fronts?
Nice work dude. I guess that side adjustment for the blade height(or is that one the angle adjustment) can still easily turn?
Thanks! Yeah, there's about a 1/4 inch gap between the handle and the cabinet.
Michael Alm very cool. Great build. You should keep these shop projects coming.
Really nice video. But where do you store your cross cut sled? Where do you store your fence when using the cross cut sled? (i.e. is there space on top of the cabinet for temporary storage of those two items?) Great project. Thanks for sharing..
베리''''굿😁😁😁😁😁
that works out nice!
how do u like that kind of paint on wood? its commonly used as a primer right?
Yeah, it's the best black primer I've found
Love the idea of mounting it to the saw. I have the same saw and was going to put a cabinet on casters but I like your idea much better.
Thank you! Yeah, I'm going to have to move this saw a fair amount when I want to cut large length boards, and clean, so it makes sense to have it integrated. Let me know if you build one!
@@MichaelAlm I definately will. I just found you on Instagram. I'll be sure to tag you in my build and give you a shout out for the great idea.
Fantastic!
Wow👍👍👍👍👍💪
Very nice build. How easy is it to tilt the blade now. Seems like that is a small space now. Just curious. I've been thinking along the same lines with a cabinet for my sawstop.
Thanks! It’s not bad at all. There’s about a 1/4” gap between the handle and the cabinet so it moves freely, and the handle’s long enough to grip without issue.
@@MichaelAlm That was my question as well. Glad it's not an issue. I have the same saw and have been thinking of a way to attach an existing cabinet. I thought the legs might need to be beefed up but it looks like you have solved that also. Thanks for sharing.
@@jeffforbes3772 Right on. Yeah, I think if anything the cabinet makes those legs stronger. That way they aren't floating out in space. If you do build this, make sure you drill out for the bolt heads. Even though the cabinet lifts up off that plate, when it's in the down position, those holes square the cabinet up.
Whats the thinking behind the Daniel Smith gesso?
Hi Michael love your new drawer setup. Is it a problem to change saw blades on your Saw Stop?
Thanks! No issues. Its super easy
Hey, who needs SketchUp when you have multiple Whiteboards? 😉
Looks great. Is that the 36" or 52" table on the saw?
Thanks! It's the 36"
UPDATE* I now have plans for this project. almfab.com/plans
What are you using for under the track saw to cut into?
These are the things I want in my shop. Gotta find time, do you have any I could borrow?
Mike, where did you source the black melamine?
Johnny Horn cameo at 4:18
10:11 "Taxidermy Eyes" 😆😂🤣 👀
Hi Michael how much for the storage cabinet plans under the saw stop? Iam in Spokane WA. Also still wondering about getting the MSF core.
Nice build. Question about the top coat @4:18 - "General Finishes: High Performance Water Based Top Coat (Satin)".
Why that on top of the black acrylic? Does it give you a finish that feels like the melamine? (I'm thinking about using it to finish doors of a cabinet).
Yeah, It’s a bit stronger than just the gesso
Great build! I just discovered your channel and subbed. If I understand correctly, the bracket on the left is weight bearing, same for the cleat on the right? Any noticeable sag on the right?
Thanks! Yes the left side sit on the steel plate, which is part of the lifting mechanism. It is held in place by weight and registration on the carriage bolt heads. The one on the right has a cleat that's bolted to the steel legs. The L brackets prevent the box from slipping off when lifted. There hasn't been any sag, and I don't think there will be. All the weight is on the sides of the box and those are pretty solid connections. It does creak a bit when lifted, but I think that's just from wood rubbing against metal. Does that help?
@@MichaelAlm PERFECT! I have a single car garage shop so my saw is always moving around. Your build just added more storage to my shop...when I get that far down the the list. Thank you for the fast reply.
Right on! Let me know how it comes out
I also have the PCS with 36" extension. I've thought about doing something similar, but worry about excessive weight on the rails when it's lifted.
This is damn awesome and very beautiful. Can you show us how to make a slightly larger cabinet in which one may compartmentalize decades of repressed feelings?
Next video!
Hi Michael great design. Can you tell us please the brand and model number of the mobile base? Thank you
Here you go: amzn.to/2KFCPs6
Hey man, this is an awesome idea. I've seen this video several times now and probably will again a few more times. I want to do this on my PCS but it's got the 52" rail . What do you think? Think it's doable?
Here's what I'm planning on doing. First, I don't like the idea of having to readjust the feet on the legs after moving the saw on a floor that isn't level. So, I plan on removing the legs and building a cabinet using the additional space that the legs are blocking. Add casters to the cabinet. Now attach a piece of plywood (8" x 15") to the bottom of the table so that it hangs down along the side of the cabinet. Cut a vertical slot in plywood so that a bolt coming out the side of the cabinet can protrude through the slot. Then add a knob on the bolt so you can tighten and lock the plywood to the side of the cabinet. That will act as the support for the top, replacing the legs. So, when you want to move the saw, loosen the knob which will allow the top and plywood to move up and down as the bolt moves in the slot. The cabinet on casters will move with the saw since the plywood keeps it in position. When you get to the new spot, lower the saw and retighten the knob. This way you don't have to readjust the legs and you gain more space for a larger cabinet.
Would a french cleat have worked on your cleat that you installed on the outer legs? If so, would it make a difference on strength or just be a preference?
It would work, yes. Not sure it would make it any stronger. Usually French cleats are used to make something removable or able to be hung without access to the cleat. (Like kitchen cabinets.)
If you’re not careful, one day that saw will kick back... get it!!
Nice Build, works well with that saw. Question: Why the L brackets on the outside?
Thanks. They just keep the cabinet from slipping off the cleat when the saw is rolling around.
Saw that you used some shims that are red and blue. Where did you get them?
You can order them on Amazon. They are great and come on very handy.
When you attached the fleet, did you use a bolt on the back side of the legs?
The bolt is threaded into the legs, and doesn’t come out the other side. Is that what you were asking?
Do you have an issue with the table tilting with all of that extra weight on the right side of the saw when the cabinet is fully loaded. I am actually hoping you say yes because I attached the router table to the left side and when I raise it up to move the table the left side has a hard time rising because of the weight of the extension so far from the Center line.
Any issues with tilting the blade?
Where do you get the laminated wood?
My lumberyard stocks it. A lot of industry people use it for work surfaces so it's pretty common.
is your plans measurements in metric and imperial?
If you were to remake it again, would you have done anything differently?
We’re do you get the MSF core?
Great build! Where can I find that melamine style plywood?
I’ve got the exact same saw coming this week. Do you have plans available?
Working in them. Hopefully in the next few weeks
Awesome! Can’t wait!
Any update on plans? I’ve got my saw all ready to rock and would love some solid plans.
Almost done!! I just need to pull in images. I’ll let you know when it’s on my site 👍
Hey Rich, There are not plans available on my website. Thanks for your patience www.almfab.com/build-plans
Great build, do you have plans online?
Not yet. I'm working on a package of plans to be released realistically in the fall. This project will be one. In the mean time you can see my cut list for the top and side panels at 1:22 Hope that helps!
Thank you@@MichaelAlm
Hey Gregory, I finally have the plans finished. You can find them here: : www.almfab.com/build-plans
The tilt handle looks very close to the cabinet. Any problem with that?
Have you had any issues with accessing the side handwheel when adjusting?
Not really. There’s a 1/4 inch gap between the wheel and the cabinet, and plenty of room for my hand.
Quick question about the finish - noticed you used black gesso and a general finishes poly. Was curious why you did not use a black acrylic enamel. And what is the purpose of the gesso - just for a black substrate?
Honestly it's just what I had on hand in the shop. Any black paint will work fine.
@@MichaelAlm ok cool... thought you came up with some new clever finishing technique :>
My only complaint is that's way too nice for shop furniture, I want it in my living room!
Hahaha! Thanks!
Living room!? I want that in my bedroom!
that black paint is the definition of goop.
I've seen you use this paint a couple times - is it a specific brand/color you use?
It’s black acrylic gesso from an art supply store. It’s coverage can’t be beat and the dry time is super short.
@@MichaelAlm thank you! Your projects with it always look gorgeous.
Ummmmm....scuse me sir, scuse me sir, scuse me sir! The whiteboard on garage door!!!! (where's the shocked emoji when you need it). I love it! (the cabinet too, of course). Can you share with us how it's done? Pretty please! :) :)
This may have already been answered but where do you find that black melamine? Would love to source that out but no one around here where we live seems to have any clue. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
I get it from my lumberyard. If you want to call Compton Lumber in Seattle, and ask who supplies it, they might be able to find someone in your area that can order it. Hope that helps!
Richard Obermark I buy it at WOODCRAFT.
How much for the plans?
I sent for plans and never received them. Patrick B.
Shoot me an email with your invoice number and I’ll resend the link. www.almfab.com/about (contact form is at the bottom of the page)
Just out of curiosity, why not just buy 3/4” black melamine and skip the leg work of adhering it to another piece of ply?
I have to ask, have you try the hot dog test?
Not yet 😉
I really want to know how much money you spend on all your tools and machine
