Njet. I follow no diet, except maybe the one where one treats eating as one of the highest pleasures. One of my favourite foods is sprats with vodka by hundred grams.

France has a very relaxed work culture, low working hours & generous vacation time. People get more spare time to work out.

I’m quite skinny and would often wear the smallest size. I can say what worked for me:
    1. I eat only one meal a day
    2. I make sure to include fruits and veggies in my diet every single day. Whether it’s apples, oranges, blackberries, broccoli, peas, carrots etc, bring them on.
    3. I make my own food a lot, including my own desserts. And the foods I make tend to be somewhat healthy. No, I don’t avoid the fatty parts like skin or fat, in fact I love eating them and would intentionally go for them! But I do use fresh ingredients and would incorporate carbs, protein and veggies into my diet
    4. Variety. I eat a huge variety of food. And I mean, huge! A lot of the things are probably foreign to American because of it (French cuisine also has quite a lot of variety). I might skip the watermelon and onions, but I would gladly eat most edible things
    5. I eat slow to savour every bite. Eating slow gives your body a chance to register it’s full. This is something French people also do
    6. I drink a lot of water. I always have water near me. While I do drink bubble tea everyday, I’m very aware this is not a replacement for water. If I’m thirsty, my first go to is water. People can mistake thirst for hunger so they consume more food and thus more calories, but water helps with this!
    7. Active lifestyle. I have a GSD that I walk and bike with, plus I do fencing and archery as my current co curricular activities. I also do housework so I do get my exercise in quite a lot (I’ve had this habit for a long time as I used to take up more sports).
    8. I avoid fast food. Fast food might make me feel good for a while, then I’ll feel horrible because it just sits in my stomach. I tend to go months without eating fast food. There have been times when I didn’t eat fast food for half a year! I have my parents to thank for not letting me get fast food when I was younger.

I believe that the food culture is what makes the difference. Until quite recently, the French just did not care if nutrition experts said a food was healthy---they said, "La vie, c'est trop courte," and they ate all manner of heavy fats and sweets anyway. Of course, they did not wolf any of it down, because mais oui, la vie, c'est trop courte.
Contrast with America, where the convention is to consume all of one's meals as quickly as possible to get it over with so one can get back to doing more important things, like work. In the nineteenth century, this caused an indigestion epidemic which led to pioneers of nutrition to advocate turning meals from inconvenient to excruciating.

Soo true, I am in the US with a sedetary job for 40 hours a week. When I was younger I was active all the time and I was skinny as a rail. I try to eat high protein since I do alot of weight training.

Is it really 40 hours a week, or does it tend to be 80?

Is it affordable to live a comfortable lifestyle in France? Compared to America? I just couldn’t imagine being able to have the same relaxed work hours and lifestyle as the French and live comfortably in America it’s so expensive out here. It’s no wonder we live to work out in America 😢
