thyroid issues are 8 times common in women causing hair loos, weight gain and period issue leading to loss of confidence and depression.
hairloss is symptom of hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism.
Human scalp hair does not grow continuously but rather cyclical.
Hair Follicles are the small pockets under the skin from which hairs grow.
Anagen ( growth phase )
hair follicle gets nourishment from blood supply thus hair follicle grows and develops new shaft
and hair lengthens.90% of the hair on your scalp is in a growing phase that lasts from 2 to 6 years.
Catagen
1 to 2 week transition stage between anagen and telogen.
last for 3- to 4-month no blood supply causes hairfall. this is replaced by new hair.
When a hair falls out, a new hair is grown in the same hair follicle, and the growing cycle begins again. different hair follicles are at different stages of their growth cycle. So, it is normal to have some ongoing continuous hair loss, which usually is balanced by new hair growth. daily 50 - 100 hair loss is normal
thyroid hormone plays an essential role in the development and maintenance of the hair follicles.
low thyroid hormone can prolong telogen effluvium causing hair roots to enter the resting stage of hair cycle too early.70% of scalp hairs can fall out within 2 months during a state of telogen effluvium.
Severe or prolonged hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism may result in hair loss.
hair loss is diffuse and involves entire scalp rather than discrete areas.
hair appears uniformly sparse, thinning of hair on eyebrows. hair loss can develop slowly and leave bald spots. hair might thin all over Hair might fall out in clumps or strands and it might not be from just one area, either, so it may not be noticeable at first.
You may also be seeing a lot of hair coming out in the shower or as you brush it - more than 100 strands per day is a sign of significant hair loss.
hair loss caused by thyroid conditions is typically temporary.
Regrowth is successful after thyroid balance But it will take several months and may be incomplete.
check thyroid blood test and treat them with medication.
