I can't believe I watched this either. Just to share my experience ,that a hose gets hardened and loses its pliabilty overtime if left under the sun . So what I do is I keep my hose in the garage away from direct sunlight after each use and I'm happy to report that the cheap hose is still in a very good condition after more than 5 years.

I could have done with this practical advice six months ago when I bought my new 30m hose. I have since bought a hose cart and its now much easier as it winds back onto the drum nice and straight. This must also be useful for electricity extension cables, some of mine are badly twisted inside the outer insulation. I feel a little stupid that I didn't discover this truth on my own. Simple, clear video, right to the point early in the video. In my mind's eye, this solution may even apply to electrical wiring, especially heavy guage, being prepared for pulling into conduit, haven't tried on wiring but will do next time. pressure washing hoses are where this really shines. saves the hoses and they dont twist internally so they past longer with out blow outs.

Great video! I am following the same technique for years not only for my garden hose but also for all kinds of power cords, vacuum cleaner power cord, electrical cables or anything long and flexible. I am very happy to find someone else who has discovered the same thing. The way you use a strap for carrying a hose is very clever and new to me. Thanks for sharing.

I can see that your hose is MUCH more flexible than mine. I would appreciate also a video on the best hose to buy. Most Big Box hardware stores sell only vinyl hoses that kink the second you begin to use them.

This is an old Navy/mariner rope throwing method, and you may also see figure 8 being used with very large ropes for big ships.
Over under method works just as well for extension cords, ropes, guitar leads, steel cable etc.
I ask people/customers to not roll up my hoses and extension cords for me when I'm finished on site, as 'I have a special technique to avoid tangles' and it's also the quickest and neatest method.
When I played in a band, I used to pack up all the other muso's guitar leads, and all the audio and mic leads etc with this over under method, and they couldn't work out how the leads never tangled up next time we used them🤣👍

I use the figure 8 method. Picked it up from my years as an electrician, when we would pull cable off huge reels in preparation for large cable pulls. If you want it to take up less space for storage, put a strap around each end of the 8, then fold one half of the 8 over onto the other half. When ready to use it, unfold the halves.

Another trick that I have learned is if your extension cords or hoses do get a kink in them you can tie a weight on one end of them and then suspend them from a high height longer than the length of your cord / hose. This will be hard for most people to do but most of the time I was working in high-rise buildings and we would take the cords excetera and hang them down through the fire Towers so it was nothing too hang them 50 to 100 ft over the weekend and believe or not it would straighten them out. And you wouldn't have to yell at The Apprentice anymore
