- Noir Alley - Born to Kill (1947) intro 20240421 by Eddie Muller shown on Apr 21, 2024
From TCM's Noir Alley (Saturdays at Midnight ET and Sunday 10am ET) hosted by the Czar of Noir, Eddie Muller.
I haven't seen this movie in years!!!! I think I will watch it this week🥳
Enjoy!
This is the second movie that began a decades-long deep dive into films noir. And in particular, Eddie Muller's commentaries. It came in a very colorful box set that completely drew me into that Other World of Noir. Also, to add to this untouchable description of the movie, characterizations and even the in-person meeting between Mr. Muller and Lawrnce Tierney, keep in mind that 1945 we were reaching the end of WWII and finding out about the atrocities that had occurred and were continuing to occur. Entire countries were lapped up and exploited or destroyed because of this war. Our women were going to work and sometimes finding a certain amount of freedom of their own, however it came about. All of this dynamic was going on worldwide and here at home is this little gem. Think of how women, in this new world, would now be able to view Claire Trevor's character. Yes, this is another great summary by Eddie Muller on an amazing film. Thank you, Noir Fan (not affiliated) for bringing this to us.
Thanks!
I love the thumbnail of this video..
Eddie Muller for President. No, wait, he deserves better than that. Czar of Noir as the it states.
This is a really good movie 🎥. He is so scary and ruthless. I’m a big fan of Claire Trevor . I did know Scott Brady was Lawrence Tierney’s brother, i see it now . 👍🎥🤩📺💕
Catch Claire Trevor in Key Largo, she does a wonderful job.
@@NoirFan77 Just watched Key Largo... excellent film! BTW, you can see another pairing of E.G. Robinson and Claire Trevor 14 years later, in Two Weeks in Another Town (1962). In that one, they play husband and wife, with some deliciously deadly dialogue exchanges. That whole movie is a hoot. Catch it if you haven't seen it.
@@wasserdaggerThanks!
And he was Elaine Benes' dad!
Right, you are. What a brilliant role. I was looking forward to seeing more of him
Excellent intro. How can you NOT want to watch this movie after watching this video? lol
On a side note, just thought I'd mention that this is a nearly verbatim repeat of the intro Eddie did about 7 years ago for the same film, You can watch his TCM Noir Alley "Born to Kill" intro from 7-30-2017 here on CZcams. *Not a diss, just an observation.
Yes, that happens.
There's another intro that I feel is better. It was from about three years ago, and it was an intro with a guest, Max Allen Collins. It's more interesting and livelier than this one. I'm not sure why they just repeat an intro nearly verbatim as you mentioned. They go to the trouble of making a new video, why not instead of recycling previous content, don't they just showcase a new film?
I love the short theme at the beginning. Does it have a name? Is it from something else?
This has been asked several times. The consensus so far is that it was written for Noir Alley. I'd love to hear otherwise, if anyone can help out.
@@NoirFan77 Thanks. It sounds like Angelo Badalamenti. I looked it up, but couldn't find anything. Oh well, no big deal.
Oh, Eddie, that necktie! And Claire Trevor, the hats! That Lawrence Tierney is a baddie. He has a lizard-like charm, like George Raft. I think standards of male attractiveness have changed a bit since this movie, though. JT is just too tough looking.
Perhaps the standards of male attractiveness have changed, I don't know. But I can't think of any male more attractive than Cary Grant, Paul Newman or Sean Connery in his prime. Timeless beauty?
@@NoirFan77 Well, yes, of course! But L Tierney? Whatever appeal he had died off probably in the 60's. I was well grown up, (ok, on Social security), before I even heard of him. Thanks to film noir & Eddie.
