I'm enjoying your tutorials! Having your verbal comments simultaneously in text is a great help. The pace is good, and the use of time lapse gives the tutorial a better sense of a "complete picture,'" so to speak, of the process. If I were into drawing, Affinity Designer would be at the top of my list.

The insight I got was to make separate inks and colors layers. At first I was wondering why you did this instead of just in-filling the inks layer, but I can see why this would be useful in many situations. For one thing, it seems you can do the inking much more quickly if you didn't have to worry about closing curves all the time.
I wonder if you've adjusted your workflow with v 2.0. I just discovered that you could make a copy of your inks layers, then use the shape builder tool on that copy to create new closed curves where you want the color areas to be. (This saves you the trouble of having to re-sketch the original inks to make your color areas.) I'll have to experiment with this technique. I've been going crazy trying to make inks that also serve as colors., trying to track which layers should be on top of other layers to get borders right.
(Hmmm. With shape builder, it might be enough to work directly with the original inks layer and not a copy of it. Must experiment!)

There are a few different reasons I like to do it. One is as you mentioned, to save some time on the inks, but more so as well to control the ink lines themselves, sharper points and so on. Plus It leaves me with just the line art for other purposes. I come from a comic book background and the steps are broken up as such.
I use different techniques for certain projects, so my workflow hasn't changed much. Yet. You bring up a great point, I have yet to consider! I will have to give that a shot and see how it works. @@njvalenteart Well I tried the Shapebuilder tool. It was promising, but seemed a bit buggy still. In the end, my session crashed. But it is a good way to go.
@@kdeuler Very cool, I'll gibe it a try as well. I have had the same issue with the shape builder too, it will randomly crash on me. Hopefully they fix this in an upcoming update. Thanks for letting me know!
Hey, you could do the color layer faster by duplicating the line layer, then clicking to have no stroke, but clicking on yes to a fill colour
You could, as long as you use one stroke for the line art, that way when you duplicate it you can switch to fill for the color. Most of the time I use different types of lines, mainly fill, so that doesn't always give me the option to just duplicate. But you certainly can if that works for your style, and speeds things up.
