    I'm rocking a Surface Pro, but this helped me out quite a bit. I too fuss way too much over getting lines 'just so', and it never occurred to me to try the approach you've shown here. Also, great advice on giving individual panel elements their own layer--that's kept me out of trouble on many occasions. Anyway, I finally have an excuse to try inking my comics in Affinity, so thanks very much for that!

    I remember when I first got Affinity Designer for my iPad(learned about it from this channel), the only vector software I ever used was OpenToonz, and this was much different from OpenToonz(not just because it has no animation features either), so it was pretty tricky to use at first, but over time, I learned more and more about it, and now I'm able to successfully do cartoony characters using various shapes and using the Pen tool.

    Hi brad colbow, may i ask whether you still use screen protector on your ipad? Does your apple pencil nib wear out fast? What is the indication that the nib is worn out? I am using paperlike for only three weeks and i think my pencil nib is worn out because when i colour my illustration, sometime i get a “blob” line (blob, like a defective fountain pen nib).

    • @thebradcolbow
      @thebradcolbow  Před 5 lety

      Wear and tear on a nib varies a lot. I've used a screen protector on my iPad for a while, maybe 2.5 yeas now. I'm also still on my first pencil nib but I'm probably going to have to replace it soon, the tip is turning gray.

      It depends on your needs. Illustrator is far and away more capable and powerful software, but you may not need all of what Illustrator can do. I always use what I call "Helper apps" alongside Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator because some apps do some very specific things very well. I jump in and do those 1 or 2 things, then move it over to Photoshop or Illustrator where everything I need is available.

    • @BurningBroadcast
      @BurningBroadcast Před 5 lety +1

      iPad is easily the best here. But if you need more general computing stuff too a Surface might be better. In terms of word and such. But the ipad is unbeatable in note taking with the pencil.

    • @andreip2521
      @andreip2521 Před 5 lety

      @@BurningBroadcast I know but I find it Soo hard to chose, my current PC is crap, it's a 4 year old laptop, and it runs like a turtle. I know that the iPad has optimized apps and everything works perfect, but the Surface is more versatile. If you were to chose one for yourself, to be your main device, for most stuff, would you chose an iPad or a surface ???
      And I am on a budget so I am choosing between the Surface Go and iPad 2018
      If I get more money I will chose between the Surface pro 6 and iPad pro

    • @BurningBroadcast
      @BurningBroadcast Před 5 lety

      Well, my question would be how much of the pencil's drawing stuf you will be using. If you plan on doing lots of art, I'd pick the ipad. Affinity Designer and Procreate are stupid powerful. However if you want to do more general school stuff, and use the pen mostly for taking notes (in say OneNote) I'd say the surface is a better device.
      I'd personally look at used Surface Pro 4 or 5's over the Go, the Go seems like a good deal ,but the entry model is to be avoided as it's way to slow. Also the keyboard cover and pen make the entire kit a lot more. You can probably find a nice i5 Surface 4 or 5 for a good price second hand. Those will be faster and great for your usecase.
      So, if you're not very heavily focussed on art. I'd get a surface device, preferably a used Pro (or the Pro 6) with the keyboard cover and pen.
      I myself use a iPad Pro 10.5 (2017) with the Apple Pencil and a Dell XPS 15 9550. But I also do a lot of heavy work the ipad or a surface pro wouldn't handle (video editing, 3d work etc)

    • @andreip2521
      @andreip2521 Před 5 lety

      @@BurningBroadcast Thanks, the pen is really important for me, but I also do a lot of other stuff on my PC. I do pdf editing, autoCAD, PowerPoint, Video and Photo editing and the iPad isn't good enough for that. I am still thinking if I should get the iPad or the Surface. I always had an attraction to surface devices, this is why I waited for the Surface event to come before I made any decisions.
      If I were to pick up the Surface, what drawing apps would you recommend. I used Photoshop, Krita. On my Android drawing tab ( it's an old cintiq hybrid) I use medibang pain and Sketchbook pro.
      Anyways, thanks !!!

    • @KuttyJoe
      @KuttyJoe Před 5 lety

      I think a thin and light Windows tablet is the best option now. None of them are the best at everything. The Apple Pencil is probably the most accurate stylus, but the iPad is the worst option for general productivity. You have great options for art programs on Windows including Affinity Designer and Clip Studio Paint. These apps will perform well on a light Windows tablet. The light Windows tablet will do wel with battery life. I currently have an old Samsung Note Pro 12 and a first generation iPad Pro. It can barely handle Affinity Designer and other apps perform poorly. Only Procreate is really performing excellent on it. For note taking, I personally prefer Samsung's S Note app and the Note tablet over my iPad Pro. iOS is just sooooo limiting. If I were looking to buy a new tablet right now, I'm pretty sure I'd get a light Windows tablet and I think I'd favor one by Samsung. I feel like the Android tablet no longer has many advantages. It does general productivity better than iOS of course, but not as well as Windows. So the only advantage is cost. Ultimately, the cheapest option will be an Android tablet.
