Back to nature is literally the game I grew up with, even back in the days of piracy and the version I had was black and white, glitchy, and barely visible by constantly going up on the screen. I fell in love with the game. Hell, I'd leave my Playstation on for weeks just because I didn't have a memory card back then.

I like both, but I must admit that BtN is so nostalgic, I love it (it was my first HM ever).

eh, considering how seeds prices are mostly way cheaper in hm btn, losing middle crops is justifiable.
I prefer the graphics, sounds, music, and character designs of Back to Nature, but I honestly prefer playing the remake. The ability to stack items in the backpack (as well as having extra slots) makes all the difference. It might seem like I'm just trying to make the game easier, but the thing to keep in mind is that I grew up playing Harvest Moon 64, where the backpack starts out with eight slots (even though you still can't stack items), so I never *ever* liked the Back to Nature backpack starting out with only two slots. It completely botched my item-carrying strategies. This wasn't simply a case of "I want the game to be easier than it originally was," it was a case of "I want a return to earlier form."
Also, the controls in Back to Nature are pretty terrible.
Having an option to let us listen to the girl's theme song from BTN and an option to switch character designs back to the OG would've made me stick around to play the game. Otherwise I can't get myself to play it even if it is a superior upgrade...

Harvest Moon More Friends Of Mineral Town was the game I grew up playing for hours going down the mountain and when my parents left us behind to go fishing while camping. Dear God the memories I have with that game!!!

I like GBA's Friends of Mineral Town too, I think it's very good, besides its pixelated graphics which are really cute, and it's a kind of BtN with "better" graphics since it's basically the same thing, only with more things too.

The only thing SoS is lacking is the rival events. I wanted to see others get married too
They were planning to, but seeing most of the players they surveyed don't like this rival event, they decided not to add those events

Harvest Moon 64 is my favorite. I used to play it until 4 am on school days and all weekend during my high school days. I think I ended up with the 12 yrs on my game, lol!
I love the original Friends of Mineral Town. Didn't get the chance to play Harvest Moon 64 and Back to Nature but I feel close to them too because they all have the same art style, character, and music
Well, HM 64 has different music and the characters only share name and appearence, they're kinda different
64 has diffrent Families. Every Charakter Had diffrent Mother or Father.
64 was like a parallel universe, lol. The way they mixed the characters and personalities can give you a whiplash.
Which is funny cause anyone who played 64 before Back to Nature feels the same way about it feeling like a parallel universe. 😂

The original FoMT is the ultimate best. Mainly because I prefer 2d over 3d and nothing can be done to fix the ps1 graphics on emulators

@@ninonino5480 I never played A wonderful Life until last week. Grew up with back to nature and have to say, a wonderful life feels very strange. The fatigue/hunger system as well as selling crops/not having a real shipping bin frustrated me. The girls are not very lovable and the overall pacing of the game feels awkward. Watering crops all day to make almost no profit on them is really frustrating. It’s more worth picking up plants in the city and at the river to sell them, than growing crops (in a farming simulation lol )

well, friends of mineral town was already the GBA remake of back to nature, so I doubt they would make a remake of BTN
I second Magical Melody. It was my second game and my favorite in the HM series when I was a kid. I also enjoyed HM Animal Parade, too. In that one you had rival events and could see the other townsfolk get married. You could also meet their grown up kids and see your kids interact with them.
I have to agree that the older games have a lot more personality to them, there's a pizzazz that the newer ones are missing for sure. The new ones are cute don't get me wrong, but the old ones are special in a way the new can't compare.
I have just recently found out that Harvest Moon FoMT was a remake! I never knew Back To Nature existed until about 2 days ago and I played FoMT probably like 15 years ago. Wow

This is a bit silly, but one of the things that annoyed me the most was the house. I loved how the house upgrades looked like in back to nature, it felt super cozy and I always rushed to get them XD but in the remake... Omg it looks so plain and boring that I barely see the difference between one upgrade and the other, and you can't even decorate it if I remember correctly. Why did they have to do it like that? 😭

My first game was.. Harvest Moon 64, I loved the design of characters.. but hated that the game has an end, after that I met Friends of Mineral Town for GBA, and I loved the music... characters but hated that this one wasn't the same style as 64... when I discovered Back to Nature... I thought.. OMG THEY MIXED BOTH XD IT WAS AN INSANE EMOTION
But you could continue playing after the end in 64.

FoMT was amazing and my favorite harvest moon/farming game. The Story of Seasons remake is good, but I still much prefer the original as the remake (for me personally) is very slow. All the animations, waking around, etc is just slower than the original. Not to mention the time moves faster so I have less time in a day to get everything done. The animations are much more expressive in the original too.
Why doesn't the SOS one have emotions, even when he's exhausted? That cold unending stare is creepy...

HM64 was technically my first Harvest Moon game but Back to Nature made me fall in love with the series. No other HM or SoT game has successfully copied its formula.
Both games are really good,I can't simply choose BTM just for the nostalgia,come on this is such a loyal fan made remake with a few things different.

I only find out later that in SoS: FoMT there is no competition in potential marriages. As the game progresses, the bachelors and bachelorettes stay single.
In BtN, Popuri would freaking leave with Kai, only would come back during the summer, when you don't marry Popuri.

Trio of towns is an excellent SOS game though.
BTN is my favorite. It was my first game in the series, and I loved it to death. ❤ Even the girl version is fun, minus the game ending after marriage.
Nothing beats old school 3D graphics (looks like clay, as well as in mario rpg, killer stinct and snes donkey kong)
Aside from all the small details that BtN is better.
The other aspect of QoL changes in FoMT is definitely better.
Both are great game, and it is thanks to the developers who decided to remake their iconic game in modern engine and take back what originally theirs.
(To people who don't know, yes Story of Seasons is basically Harvest Moon, Caz the western localize team does not work with the Japanese Dev anymore but decided to keep the name copyright to them.
That's why the Japanese Dev team decide to go for a new name a.k.a Story of Seasons.)
And in back to nature time doesn't move indoors. I love the pure nostalgia that we have been gifted

My favorite was HM64. After that never found one that scratched that itch till stardew valley. Now im playing fomt and loving tge chibi design. Plus my kid finds the animals and characters cute and entertaining.
Back to nature has so much more expression. With less focus on graphics they focused on characters and gameplay. Gameplay is better, character designs better, especiàlly Karen and the like. Sounds are better. Everything. I want to live in that grainy 8 bit back to nature world. Where as fomt I don't care about
For the health part, I liked that it required you to pay attention to the characters animations instead of more meter management.
Even graphics look charming, I'm gonna play it. It holds up very well
I think storywise hero of leaf valley is the most comprehensive I originally like save the homeland more sadly it has no romance option but the one I think did a good job to revive back to mineral town is the original story of season after they can't use name harvest moon anymore

Appearance wise, I prefer Back to Nature. Also due to nostalgia as it was my second Harvest Moon game as a kid.

I never played BTN but the remake only... but i admit, while their redesigns are good in the remake, mostly of their graphics/ sounds looks very souless compared to the old game...
I wish they haven't used the same chibi style in a more 3D game, they fall flat with so much details going on.

Well back to nature was a full home console game while friends of mineral town was a GBA game that was originally all 2D.
Yes, the only downside for me from FoMT is the sound. The music is somehow too loud n not suitable IMO for the game. Also its true, BTN has more and deep ambiance inside the game (sound from the rooster every morning, sound from the owl every night, insect, breeze from the beach, etc).
So for me, BTN has more "relaxing" environment.

First of all it's a remake of gba fomt which is a remake of btn, second the remake is great at improving things like watering the middle crop and romancing whoever you want regardless of gender, but it counters by the things they removed like rival events and them getting married so overall it's a so so remake
The one good thing about friends of mineral town is that you can marry all of the bachelor/bachelorettes. Most the guys throughout the series I don’t think so most the time I would be the boy character so I could marry the girl. But if you don’t care about marrying a girl while being a girl or if you don’t care about marriage altogether then it doesn’t matter.
Back to Nature is my absolute favorite followed by Innocent Life

I love the first one, Harvest Moon: Back To Nature for the PS1. It’s the best since you don’t have to wait too long like in SoS:FoMT to ride on. The Festivals were more fun and you got more interactions in Harvest Moon: Back To Nature. I miss some great characters in the new version, like Grey the Fisherman and the Beehive person in Gotz.
story of seasons fomt is the remake of harvest moon fomt, not the remake of harvest moon btn, if u played hm fotm u'll see many different aspect from hm btn and that's why this game is closer to hm fomt than hm btn. because hm btn is the remake of hm 64 and then goes to hm fomt and then sos fomt. that's it.
From a game mechanic stand point, the only thing I miss from BtN is the "hot house".
FoMT/SoS:FoMT had a lot of QoL changes that I enjoyed. Also the mines in FoMT had elevators that could be unlocked.

I loved back to nature and certainly wish certain elements(like rival marriages) remained in the remake. Having said that there are plenty of things I did like in the remake as well.

ps1 version back to nature was the first harvest moon i played, its always the best in the series for me
BTN is honestly a lot better. There is no question in my opinion. It took me only minutes when playing SoS FoMT to realize it as well. Everything from the intro being watered down to the complete redesign of iconic characters to a point you can not even tell who some of them are. What hurts the most is the music. 😢
